You'll find the map enclosed that you spoke with Miranda about a couple days ago. There's three places suitable for setting camps, 1.) The Ascent, near where the caravan masters run their route 2.) Camp Gemspell, which is a plateau accessible by a steep climb from inside the tunnels just past the magical boundary stones (careful these dispel illusions!). Gemspell has already made improvements to this area. 3.) the Windy Pass, there is a cervasse spanned by a rope bridge - the abutments in this area are small, could support a small camp.

The sundered gate and the old mine shafts are frequently patrolled by orcs, deep dwarves, and occasionally lizards and trolls. Notably on my most recent reconnaissance, I encountered a deep dwarf made golem.

I like the idea of giving druids a thematic but distinct way to be able to add (elemental) damage to melee. The model here is astrologians, which also don't get the usual spells (mw, flameweapon/darkfire), but have stellar blade which functions uniquely for that class and yet fills the same role.

Suggestion: Lower Herald of Winter from circle 6 to circle 5 (this would match its innate spell circle) so that this is an achievable spell to cast. As an added benefit, it puts an ice/cold theme spell at circles 2-5.

Alternatively, add lightening avatar to their spell list (either at its innate circle of 4, or at 5). This would round out a lightening evo focused druid to something to use beyond call lightening and I think is appropriately druid-master-of-the elements themed.

Contract Enclosed
Contract between La Banda Rossa (the Company) and Nasreen Shabani (NS)

Purpose is to define terms of service between the two named parties.

The Company shall provide the following activities at the request of NS given reasonable notice.

A. Locate and render safe for study archealogical sites for NS.
B. Excavate and recover artifacts from archealogical sites for NS.
C. Search of wide areas to locate and render safe for recovery by NS fragments of archealogical signifigance.
D. Escort of NS to settlments or sites of her choosing and render them safe.
E. Right to first bid on fragments and recovered artifacts for NS.

With respect to the two named parties, ownership of recovered artifacts from archealogical sites is granted to whichever party holds the site map.

The Company reserves the right to defer a request for an activity should men be unavailable.

Inclusion of parties outside the two named shall be included in such activities on the agreement of both NS and the Company.

The Company reserves the right to temporarily retain artifacts believed to have intelligence value for which it has ownership of. After reasonable time to allow for study and exploitation, these artifacts will be made available to purchase to NS.

The Company reserves the right to require a minimum number of its men present to safetly perform the requested activity.

The contract shall be reviewed and renewed at the assent of both parties every two weeks.

Rates are as follows.

One Recluta to perform activity A and B. (provide a site map, locate site, render it safe for study, excavate): 300 dinari per site.

One Recluta to perform activity C. in any contigous areas reachable by foot in a day's march: 200 dinari

One Recluta to perform round trip activity D: 200 dinari.

Surplus fragments to be offered at Company's discretion for activity E: 50 dinari a piece.

Recovered artifacts of non-colossi origin for activitty E: 100 dinari a piece

Recovered artifacts of colossi origin for activitty E: 200 dinari a piece

For any activity, employment of additional men: 100 dinari per additional Recluta, 200 per Balesterie

For activities requiring use of caravan routes, NS to pay or reimburse fares.

Examples

Scenario I: Suppose Recluta Bernadette Valentini (BV) secures a site map to an Orentid site. BV and NS agree to travel to the site. BV requests the inclusion of a third party to assist in excavatation, NS agrees. The site is located, BV renders it safe by destorying terracotta constructs and defeating a band of Inheritors. NS studies inscriptions and the site while excavatation is performed. A single artifact is recovered. Since BV provided the site map, the Company assumes ownership. The artifact is offered to NS to purchase. The cost to NS is 300 dinari for activities A and B. She is able to purchase the artifact at her discretion at a cost of 100 additional dinari.

Scenario II: Suppose NS has obtained two site maps to locations in Old Formia and requests escort and site security from BV. Due to the dangerous location of the sites, BV determines that 2 men are required to render the sites safe. BV and another Recluta travel with NS to the sites, and render them safe for study. NS recovers three total artifacts during the excavatation, NS assumes ownership of them since NS has provided the site maps. The cost to NS is 300 dinari, 200 for activity D. and 100 additional dinari for the addition of a second Recluta. NS is responsible for paying the caravan fares to reach the sites.

Scenario III: NS wishes to search Aeb's Yoke, The Cragg's of Pennance, Giant's Road, and the Broken Pass for fragments of archealogical signifigance and requests from BV activity C. BV and NS locate several fragments on their route, and NS is able to recover them after BV secures the immediate area. The cost to NS is 200 dinari for activity C.

Fixing Relics Forever with new Cleric Feats

Consider: From the Wiki, "Utilizing the new Cleric feats in order to create, improve, and expand upon their relic, players will gain access to many mechanical benefits."

Issue: Currently, creating relics requires time and effort from DMs, whether these items are stocked in stores IG for purchase or given to characters directly. Balance and variety for all present and future dieties/faiths is a non-trivial and on-going consideration.

Additionally, there are four new cleric feats related to relics and a new skill category: Sacrifice, Enhance, Enchant, Sanctify, and consecrate. With a few changes, these could be made to satisfy one interpretation of the quote, and so free DMs from an ongoing task and future proof the relic system for new deities/pantheons while remaining balanced with the existing item ecosystem.

Suggestion: Enable clerics to create their own relics by using these feats on items they find in-game. To do this, make the following modifications to the feats.

1. Swap so Cleric gets Sanctify at level 6, Enchant at level 8
2. In addition to its OUB Cleric's Patron, have Sanctify add OUB Cleric, add to item ability to cast 3rd level divine spells. i.e. make the item a valid relic. Increase cost to 5 sacrifice points.
3. Change second tier Enhance so that it gives the item the ability to cast 4th level divine spells. Cost 10 points.
4. Change third tier Enhance so that it gives the item the ability to cast 5th level divine spells. Cost 15 points.
5. Add sacrifice point cost to attune to relic to 5 points.
6. Start new characters with 10 points.
7. Have sacrifice points be deducted, even on a failed roll for any of these feats.
8. Have sacrifice relic only work on relics that are not OUB cleric's patron, and not OUB: Wheel generic
9. Get rid of re-roll addendum to SF: Consecrate, instead have it halve round up all sacrifice point costs

Some discussion
- Sanctifying the item and giving it relic properties I believe makes it truly usuable by only clerics. I.e. you can't use these feats to just make general loot better for anyone. Alternatively also tack on Min Cleric levels: 5,7,9 respectively to the three tiers.

- Since relics in this scenario are modified items from the general loot tables, there's no need for seperate balance considerations just for relic items. The enchantments are to my mind minor and not balance breaking: +2 to a skill, a 1 level spell and a +1 random save vs descriptor. If that's a concern, then these just remove these.

-The gold-value DC scaling is fairly steep i.e. making already powerful/valuable items into slightly more powerful and a relic will in fact have for most clerics impossible consecrate DCs.

- You can only attune to one relic at a time, so you can't stack multiple items with the boons. This in fact can be determintal to enchance/sanctify lots of your items, since it means you can't wear them all at the same time.

- Giving attunement a point cost will make it so a cleric cannot continously swap out lots of relics they've made. An established cleric may wish perhaps to have two or three relic items they would consider using in different scenarios, and swap between them occassionally, but the cost in points means they can't do this for every rest and should consider carefully if its worth doing.

- Having higher sacrifice point costs, and deducting points for failed DCs means clerics will have an additional incentive to get points - i.e. do conversion, obtain relics to sacrifice, and live longer. These might ultimately be more satisfying gates than say, acquiring 10k gold pieces.

- Introducing new faiths and pantheons (the Dome for example) does not require a DM to also make new relics.

By any and all the names for which it is known, we the Alchemists seek the Philosopher's Stone.

The relic situation from what I have seen is readily available and affordable circle 4 relic in the necklace or ring slot. Off the shelf they have some decent but relatively minor static properties. You can spend sacrifice points to enhance and then enchant these relics to make them better. I see this as a way to invest in your relic, personalizing it and making it into a useful, durable item your cleric can use and revere.  Some balancing considerations are 1.) You have to equip it to have your spells 2.) They don't have aspects.


As a comparison, think of the puzzlers amulet for wizards. This item gives a wizard a bonus 1 slot and +1 will and an aspect and is commonly available. That is in many cases objectively better than a fully enhanced relic as I will explain below.


Enhancing: If in fact the vision is for most clerics to get the relic shop relics and use them throughout their life span, then enhancing could be the mechanic by which they make the relic into a quality item. Note, you are foreclosing a slot with an aspect, and you're also giving up some flexibility since you cannot routinely swap out equipment in this slot without losing your spellbook. As medium and large aspects often give something on the power rating of +1 a save, or +2 a save vs descriptor or even +X to ability scores this is a nontrivial opportunity cost.

Recommendation:
level 1: +2 to random skill is good.

level 2: change from random circle 1 to bonus 1 slot. A majority of the circle 1 cleric spells are really only good with higher caster level, plus your cleric is already by definition a 4th level or higher caster to use this ability -- this way the cleric can cast the spell (thematic even perhaps! more thematic than random at any rate) at its useful caster level..  Alternatively, go to random circle 2or subset of circle 2 and 3 spells (choose a subset of spells that are good when cast from items - clarity, resist elements, etc)

level 3: +1 random save vs. descriptor is to my eye not a very good capstone. Just make it a straight fort/will/reflex +1. If this is the item the character is likely to wear their entire life, then its on par with what one might find on some superior loot.


Enchanting: Enchanting a relic costs 3 points. Excepting circumstances in which your cleric has a ready and cheap supply of relics to sacrifice, this means you can enchant your relic once about every three resets. Once every three days you can add a nice property for rounds per consecration rank - this is 1-3 mins of a  positive effect. Some of the properties themselves are valuable, but the cooldowns and time domain aspects make this a very minor consideration (i.e. most of these effects are something on the power level of drinking a potion or a medium aspect effect, so as a rough comparison, this ability let's you drink a free potion every 3 days, or enjoy a medium/major aspect bonus for a couple of minutes every 3 days). Some property/slot combos might be largely irrelevant (+1 AC on a shield relic which likely already has +1? or +1 deflection on a helmet when that is nonstacking with other static deflection bonuses or shield of faith? Compares very unfavorably with say +2 reflex or 5% PI properties on other slots)

Recommendation: Increase the duration to be 24 hours or for the entirety of the reset. Consider also lowering the cost to 1 or 2 sacrifice points. This would translate into you could maintain the effect and stay sacrifice point neutral while still getting something out of the ability. Review and change properties that don't have good use case because of non-stacking, e.g. most non-starter shields are already +1, so bump this up to +2. Adding deflection AC to say a helmet is somewhat unlikely to really matter, unless its +2 or more, etc).

I suggest Astrologians get Darkness added to their known lists - this pairs nicely with their access to ultravision and mass ultravision and seems an appropriate bit of magic for them to have access to.

Rin of Oldflowers

I created Rin in a hurry in order to get in on NND et al's Oldflower player faction back in December 2021. She was originally speced to be a loyal, witchy but wise advisor and confidant of Audrey Oldflowers.

Backstory: Rin was a foundling in the Cradle of the Baleful Stillborn, she was rescued by the beggar Farrell, snatched away from the shrine before the werewolves could come. She lived for a long time in the woods, caring for the children and mongrels they could retrieve from the shrine, and surviving with the outcasts like Molossus and the less cruel and warlike mongrels. That is how she came into contact with the Oldflowers, as they were midwives to the woe-formed, and would bring the unwanted children of the ward into the woods.

Much Loved by the Moon: Waiting in the bushes by the cradle, as the Moon looked on to horrible scenes of savagery and neglect, hoping for her chance to dart out and grab the child before the wolves came - that was the core of The Moon being in her deity field. It wasn't exactly a religion - more a concept. That no matter how bad it was or alone you were, you could look up, and the Moon would love you. The ideal of unconditional love was what shaped and drove Rin's moral composure. It boiled down to

1.) Every living thing was worthy of love
2.) That man's love was ephemeral and fickle, that it ebbed away exactly when you needed it the most, and that this was the role and place of divine, superhuman, love - that someone hated, despised, and alone was the person who most needed love. So Rin's love/regard would grow in inverse proportion to how much another person was hated.

Overtime this elaborated into pacifism, peace-making, and of course gardening. She came to resemble something like a Quaker, and did in fact change from True Neutral to Neutral Good. (This, and also a nod to one of my favorite writers, is why I used ArsAmatoria player name with this character.)

But, one of the very rewarding things about this character is that her lived history became the real "back story." She started life as a retainer in the ward, but that was exploded spectacularly when Manfred Japes and Orza waged war on the Oldflowers (Rin would eventually commission a song from Milton to try and mock Manfred). This led her deepening her druidism, and she was inducted into the Lost Oaths faction by Tiktika Strawtoss. Overtime she became the Groundskeeper and a sort of quiet leader of a sect of the Druids. She made it her goal to end the enmity between druids and the ward, and this was why she was frequently meddling in politics; and subverting retainers and houses with her druidism. She also had a vision of a peaceful, largely democratic utopian community in the Ponds, and this was why she wrote the Book of the Commons.

Eventually meddling led to The Named Men and ring running, since one of the goals of that was to get Brie Cesme and Sorcha out of reach of the knives of Orza (after Brie's declaiming and accusing Manfred). She didn't feel like her goal of ending enmity between the druids and ward was accomplished yet and that there was still need for a Groundskeeper and to stop Fimbulvetr, so she returned after reaching Bazeel. She and Tiktika then became involved in the effort to enact Phelan's change, and they eventually succeeded. Many of the events of that she included in her Book of Metamorphosis. This was also the period where some elements of the ward were cracking down on druids. Titika would die in a chance encounter, however the planting of the grove did stand out as a sort of minor but mixed victory of her goal to create peace.

After that, there was an internal conflict among the druid faction as it split among the Courts of the Seasons, and there was a period of what was a sort of civil war, mixed in with efforts to aid the Recondite. It was when Rin was very much on the outs with many of the other druids that she found a white stag. Those antlers Mathans would eventually take from her storage and were used to conclude the Winter Court/Fimbulveter glamour.

Eventually though through many other twists and turns, because of her love for her adopted daughter Mebril, she was persuaded to go with her to try and meet the King.

Some special thanks and mentions
Mebril Blackhearth (Ramc): Could write pages about all the things these two went through. Mebril started out as a project to subvert Moonspear but overtime became her adopted daughter and protegee and person she cared most about. Rin was the one who gave Mebril all her tattoos after teaching her how to change form.

Mil Blita (Cisco): Rin and Mil were sisters and survivors, an incredible partner for all the ups and downs of the Druid faction for over a year.

Jacho, Aldo, Haggahwhisp, Daniel (Diablo): Reluctant enemies, wide eyed converts, betrayals, unlikely friends, silly banter, deep discussions about ethics or conspiracies of the rings. We covered a lot of ground, Diablo!

Audrey Oldflowers (NND): Rin thought of Audrey as the best example of what a noble should be, and was why she never really considered herself as an outsider or anti-peerage - there was always people there worth the effort.

Bristol (SgtWombat): I was thoroughly entertained playing the judgmental mother-in-law, and constantly condescending and under-estimating Bristol who was portrayed with perfection.

Wethyr Haremarch, Sykes, Myldewl (Glyph): You play other worldly outriders really well -- all your nature folk or rebels were a joy to interact with.

All my ring running groups: Taban, Tiktika, Earc, Sorcha, Albert, Brie, Jacho, and then Dela, Calli, Mebril and Boots -- it takes a lot of effort (and no small amount of scheduling) to go and do those things, thanks for sharing your stories and helping me tell Rin's.

And also Lalena (94Hippie): Blushing Lalena, the Killdeer, made me smile

Also Ironsides, Skagg, and Abala for what was a very memorable last session!

The death of Typherion. Rin also saved Aldstan's life when he lost to Typherion earlier, and so for that reason, despite Moonspear paladin zeal, he never went after Rin for being a druid to repay the debt.

Rin was married. She was bought at an auction in a planar bazaar. Her husband was a 12 foot tall elephant demon. They lived a life together, and his dying act was to send her back through time.

This was the final meeting between Geriand and the last of the Sunpurse inside a fungus folk grove deep underground. When given the choice, Rin elected to break the circle and sacrifice the Willow so that the Grove could be planted.

The rare white stag. Unfortunately this came after the breaking of the circle, so she couldn't ascent to Wise One. However Mathans, Bartley and two others ambushed her in her room. Rin narrowly escaped with her life, but lost the antlers since they were in storage.


I really like arranging meetings in the grove and for a brief time Rin was making headway as an open changeling using the grove as a neutral place to make inroads towards her mission of peace. Dela and Rin ended up having many goals in common and would eventually ring run past Bazeel with each other.

Glyph wanted to run prince. It did not end well. However, Rin was a survivor, and lived through as soul survivor on more than a few tough encounters through rings 99-1.


Haggahwhisp did betray Rin, stealing the last Dryad Tear item from the Students (Monstrous Regen per day faction key) but he did it to try and save her life from Valmoira. He would often try and warn her away from danger.


I liked paling around with Haggahwhisp, running up and down the rings -- perfect complement to have spooky sorc to travel with and fight monsters


Rin swore to be Solomyn's sister no matter what, after the two of them braved the tunnels beneath 94 for the recondite, and they had to drag out their companions through the gauntlet to safety.


Rin and Hog had a great little arc - when she first met him she threatened him because he was clearing away druid plants, but he later came back and gave her a bouquet of flowers and they become pals and went on adventures

Elaine was one of the Wise Ones -- I think this was an NPC most people overlooked in the Ponds, but she was actually alot like Rin.

Rin and Doukas ran quite a few quests together! Though something started smelling fishy about the time he started wearing his new armor....

For each new form they learned, Rin would tattoo intricate nature scenes and designs inspired by the encoutner onto her pupils, part of the lesson was, in the end, there's no hiding what you've learned. Keithen for example had a very harrowing journey through the Mongrel woods as a deer being hunted by his fellow Glitt. Mebril would of course be kicked out of Moonspear eventually for her dabbling with changing forms.



Earc also faced the music for his sentiments towards Rin and the druids.

Bristol and Rin were so different, but oddly saw eye to eye on alot of things. Though events led to her breaking a promise she made with him, she instead decided to keep the faith with Mebril

Sitting in the big chair. Rin voted as the sunpurse retainer in two different council meetings! An active particpant in ward politics and an open druid! This drove Mebril crazy as she was sure Rin was going to end up murdered at these meetings.

Rin and Jacho waged guerrilla war on the Velstrans for awhile and would eventually help Mebril seize the Keep. Here is Rin terrorizing Grace in a fish related incident

Rin tried to redeem the Patriarch, afterall, by the end he was the most hated man in the world, and so she had to love him. It nearly cost her her druid powers.

The Loot - I had some custom pieces on Rin, which were great. However, I am a bit of a completionist, so I ended up collecting quite a few things over her life. So I'm going to do the full catalog here so you can see how I put it all together. Rin was never an overhelming force, but you better believe she was going to have the right equipment for an given situation. Also I really enjoyed hunting down and finding items to help other people get the things they wanted. She was quite the accomplished treasure hunterer.

Rin wasn't actually very good at changing! She needed level 10 to get wildshape (Druid 5), but she did have alter self available so she could shift if she wasn't max level


Rin had 15 magic bags and spent 99.9% of her life encumbered. About half she bought, half she found.

This is the sword she got from her husband. Also that planar encounter is probably my all time favorite DM run quest. Skagg and Ironsides had me in stiches for most of it! The perfect mix of grim and whimsy that EFU gets right. And Rin even got this crazy funny story about how she got married to a demon out of it.

This is a fantastic looking item with a great story and history, inherited from Tik the Mighty, Rin's first druid mentor. Had some great per days and immunities on it. Everyone always asked why she wore it in the underwood. 1.) The remember the mushroom farmer who was one of her best friends 2.) immunity to bewildering from grove spiders




I had three of these - so she could keep up PfE at no cost!

I usually had the dancing in the Wind Set on with Rin for the extra AC and reflex.



I also had four of the boots, so she had 20 per day charges of exp retreat for when she needed to make fast time. She escaped many many fatal encounters by being fast.

I had three of the boots. I always wanted to see if i could get three flame twins out to ruin someones day. Alas, no good opportunity presented itself.

If she had to solo a tough monster, she'd get out two insect clouds, magic fang, greater magic fang and usually rage

She took her gardening seriously, always carried around a pouch of useful herbs and seeds


Her sling and her pouch of many different types of ammunition. I stand firm in my opinion that sling is the best ranged option for a non dedicated range fighter since its so light and you have so much utility with ammunition times

Bug Reports / Zif-Uroti's Chambers take limited

Zif-Uroti's Chambers, one of the randomized quest options that spawns in 99 has an unadvertised take limit of 4 attempts per character. Some text to the quest giver should be added OR the take limit removed. Although this quest has some unique items, my impression is that it is not radically different from other high level quests and the randomized aspect probably already addresses concern of over subscription.

Suggestions / Make Kith available to druids

Rangers, Sorcerers, Wizards and Bards have Alter Self and can change into Kith forms. It would be good if druids had availability to some alternate forms that can talk - my take is that they are not overpowered in combat, especially when compared to other forms - they would primarily be useful for changeling trickery.

so the suggestion is to make Alter Self available to druids (perhaps at circle 3 instead of 2) or add these nine shapes to wildshape.

Suggestions / Make /c spells_status available to druids

This is a great script that works for clerics, wizards, sorcerers and bards. Druids also are spell casters with spell craft as  a class skill, so they should get it too.

Problem: When sneaking around with other PCs in areas with hostile monsters or hostile PCs frequently the cooperating sneaks need to awkwardly pause after transitions (or small breaks in line of sight) and try to make each others spot/listen checks or drop stealth to see one another.

There are of course some magical and OOC solutions to this problem, but even these can break stealth or cause hostile PCs you are stalking to become aware of the stealthed characters.

What I would like is a /c command that accepts the name of a PC and allows you to reveal yourself to that PC while still in stealth. Possibly the scripts used in the DM haunting tool could be repurposed for this.  It could be explained as hand and arm signals used between cooperating sneaks. It could force a whisper or text to emit from the stealthed PC so that it could be potentially exploited if you are in fact perceived by hostile PCs.

Casting alter self on a blank wand with the craft wand feat results in a new wand with the name "wand of alter self" but which actually has  25 charges of hearthfire.

Dillusionist indicated that this is likely due to changes related to different colored magic missiles, which caused this bug:
