Screen Shots & Obituaries / Jason Undt - The Tracker
December 13, 2020, 08:48:09 PM
Jason Undt was going about his life in a forest until one day he awoke in the City of Rings.

Confused, and lamenting his change in circumstances, he spent much time learning about the rings. He also held a number of jobs. Ranging from a proud member of Jimmy's Boys in the blade boom, Billy's Beer Hall and eventually joining up with a smalltime ringrunning group.

After a hiatus of a few months. He finally met his end at the pallid princes feast. His luck running out as he stepped on a deadly trap.

I'd like to thank everyone who interacted with Jason. It was an wonderful way to see how EFU is doing after so long.

Here are the few screenshots I took over the months.

SkillFocusPwn welcoming me back to the server by telling me to remember what quests he created. On pain of death.

Hi all,

EFU popped back into my head today and I thought I'd swing by to say hello to see how things are.

I'll be skulking around the forums to see how things are going and may even venture onto IRC if that still where we hang outside of EFU.

EFU was a good part of my life at one point and I'm happy to see it still active.

Hope all is well.

Daz.

Announcements / Applications and you
July 21, 2013, 11:04:53 AM
Hello everyone,

Since opening our associations and factions to applications we've been flooded with an incredible amount of interesting and varied ideas from players new and old. We are thrilled with the reaction and only hope that the fruit that these applications bare will blossom into amazing plot lines and stories that yourselves and the DM team can participate in and create another chapter of fascinating history in EFU.

Unfortunately however with such demand it means the DM team have to be more particular about what applications we approve. This is to ensure that our factions and associations are equally balanced with players but also so the DM team can ensure we can concentrate and devote enough time to every single faction/association PC to see their application come to life.

If you've had your application rejected recently please don't take this personally, we've started a new period in the life of EFU where every player is eager to play a star role to shape the early stages of this chapter. Whilst we cannot accept every application right off the bat, the DM team are more than happy to work with you to tweak your application to ensure it can be the best it can. We are not promising that every app can be successful but we will work with you so it is more likely to be approved by the team as a whole.

First of all I would like to point out the following threads, I strongly advise reading these before writing your app so you know what makes the DM team vouch for an app to be approved.

"EFU:R Factions and Associations"

"Character Classes Information and Requirements (Including Prestige Classes!)"

"Subrace information and Race Reactions"

"Information About the Application Process in general (lots of good stuff in here)"

Secondly I am reintroducing the IRC channel #efuapps for anyone who wishes help with their applications, please feel free to join and ask any questions about your current app, an application your writing or an application you've had rejected. If you don't get a response straight away then it simply might be because I'm currently away from the computer, working or simply doing some other task. You will get a reply in a reasonable amount of time.

Finally there is the "DM Q&A Forum" for any questions you might like to ask.

Thanks for your time and keep the applications rolling in!

Off-topic Discussion / Daz's next music override
August 05, 2012, 06:05:57 PM
So after modest success with my MORTAL KOMBAT battle override, I've decided to make another override pack. This time with THE LEGEND OF ZELDA music, I'm not quite sure which game I should use though.

Therefore I'm putting it to a vote, feel free to suggest any alternatives I may not of mentioned.

Please read this and learn it, we've had a few incidents that could have been avoided if this had been made more prominent in the past, it's now in the "Information for New Players" thread if you want to refer to it at anytime.

It's not really EFU specific, but a simple idea on IRC led to another and so I created this override to bring some techno to your NWN experience

Over the past month or so an event has been in the planning to celebrate Neverwinter Nights 10th anniversary, providing us all with ten years of fun, roleplaying and fantasy!

The NeverWinter Player Appreciation Days (NWPAD) event is a collaboration of celebration of this momentous milestone across multiple PW servers. NWPAD is scheduled to run from June 18th to July 3rd and EFU is taking part, during this time special IG plots and events will be formulated for new players and our familiar faces to enjoy and take part in, special prizes and loot filled plots I might add!

Naturally this means you guys are invited to party! So don't be afraid to jump into other servers and mix with the community, this is a time of celebration and the fact that we are still here ten years later is a testament to what a truly great game and story telling platform Bioware managed to build back in the day.

As part of the NWPAD cohort, you guys are also eligible to take part in the NWPAD World Walker Challenge! A quest for only the most dedicated of NWNer's to visit every PW world involved in NWPAD and take part in the events, the top ten serverblazers will recieve a free download copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition , Courtesy of the folks at Good Old Games.

More information can be found here: http://nwpad.weebly.com/index.html

Enjoy the event!

Off-topic Discussion / Learn something new
February 05, 2012, 06:16:27 PM
Greetings EFUers,

You've probably noticed my time about IRC/IG is often limited these days which is something I'm both sad and happy about. Sad that I'm not about to watch you all create amazing stories, happy that I'm using my time elsewhere to learn about things I love to immerse myself in.

One of the things I done last year was take part in one of Stanford's Distributed Education experiments which was titled "An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence". It was taught by two professors of the field and offered individuals of any discipline to take part, at the end of the course all who completed the course received a statement of accomplishment digitally signed by the two professors themselves. Over 20,000 people around the world completed the course.

In turn, one of the Stanford professors resigned his post and is continuing the push into Distributed Education by co-founding a company called Udacity, its goal to offer University-Level education of high-quality and low-cost. Right now this month, it is offering two courses this month for free, one for those with no programming experience to gain a firm foundation in programming and learn how to create a search engine, another for those with programming experience to learn the concepts of how to program their own robotic car within a programming environment.

Why I'm I telling you this? My previous experience with Distributed Education was a positive one and I believe it is a opportunity that should not be missed. Part of my degree I am working towards had a large emphasis on A.I and I found the course to highly compliment my degree. Therefore I'd highly encourage anyone with some time on their hands or are looking for their next challenge to take up one of the classes.

The website offering this fantastic opportunity is:

http://www.udacity.com/

Also this is a news article regarding Professor Thrun, detailing some of his accomplishments and his decision to push into Distributed Education.

http://allthingsd.com/20120125/watch-sebastian-thrun-leaves-stanford-to-teach-online/

EDIT3: Another article about Distributed Education I found in one of my national papers http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/feb/05/desktop-degree-stanford-university-naughton

Perhaps if enough people take part I might even be inclined to create some nice loot for the best student of each class.

EDIT: Due to a positive initial response on IRC, I'd love anyone who is serious about taking ether class to post their interest here. If enough people take the class, I'd be more than happy to setup a group on the forums and a IRC room on darkmyst for intellectual chat and Q&A.

EDIT2: Both modules will be using the programming language python as the programming language of choice, if you are taking the introductory programming module then don't worry too much about this. Anyone else who is taking the more experienced module should probably take a little look at the python language if they don't know it so they can get to grips with it. If enough people join up to warrant the creation of a group I'll post up some python resources for your use.

Now that I have your attention....

I'd be interested in hearing the views of the players of the server for my own use as well other members of The DM Crew that want to make use of it. You've probably heard it a million times that "The Players make the server, not the DM's" so this is your time to shine and tell me exactly what you feel.

I would like to know what you think the server is currently great at providing, what you think as a player the server is currently lacking, and what you believe the DM's as a whole should currently be concentrating on as well as any other things you feel should/could be addressed.

All I ask is that you keep trolling/flaming/insulting/etc out of this thread and focus on the issue at hand.

As an addition, if you feel you don't want your opinions public, your more than welcome to PM me them with the thread title.

Thank you in advance!

General Discussion / efuapps:- Bring it back?
December 08, 2009, 11:35:03 AM
I'm sure some of our longterm players remember this IRC room, for the newer players I'll enlighten you.

Basically it was a place DM's would take questions regarding apps and  give out pointers/help to players with their apps. Every discussion would be moved to another room for a private discussion or then discussed through private messaging.

I'm thinking of bringing it back for the ones that struggle/are averse to writing applications but i'd like your opinion first, I've not spoken to other DM's regarding this so feel free to chime in as well.

Just a few pro's and cons regarding it:-

PRO'S

1. A dedicated IRC room where players can speak to DM's regarding apps

2. The ability to quickly speak to all DM's in the room with greater chance of getting a timely reply (without annoying DM's)

3. Quickly getting one to one (more depending on interested DM's) advice/pointers from DM's about improving/writing your app

CON'S

1. Cant this be done with a polite PM to DM's in efu? (Yes but some DM's prefer not to idle in efu for obvious reasons and considering the amount of PM's we get, it can take time to get to you)

2. A horde of DM's in one room hearing my question, shit. (Some people actually think this, believe it or not. Thats exactly the kind of thing we don't want people to think, we want people to think they can ask questions about their apps/characters so they know what we want and therefore make EFU a better place for all)

3. Alright, another shitfest IRC chatroo- (no, this room would be specific to app related questions only. Any idlers, spammers or just general dicks trying to spit on the goodwill of people will be banned mercilessly)

This is just a general vote at the minute, but if it's looked upon with favor then I'll see further steps taken.

I'll be your newest DM from now on and I'll be hijacking your quests/plots and ether turning them into mindless slaughters or loot filled frenzies depending on how many worker monkeys you sacrifice to me.

See you on the flipside!

Don't know how much server load it would cause or if this is wanted but I'd thought it'll be pretty cool and useful if we each have a seperate account name for every account opened at a bank (or maybe few) which could used if someone wanted to deposit money into a account as payment for something or another.

For instance:-

Your PC:- I'd like to deposit gold into someone elses account.

Banker:- Who's account would you like to credit?

*Kick starts listener script*

Your PC:- Genericbankaccount

Banker:- How much gold into "Genericbankaccount" account?

etc etc etc.

Naturally I'm suggesting this because it's something my character would greatly benefit from but it'll be pretty cool for others to make use of as well.

Well it was bound to happen sometime, Infantryman Trannyth, First Honor of the Stygian Armada is no more after surviving pretty much everything Ymph had to throw at him. I'd like to thank the countless scores of people that interacted with him and I hope you enjoyed his presence as much as I enjoyed playing him from start to finish.

Trannyth was probably my most ridiculous concept ever, he wanted to kill Garagos in revenge for Garagosians murdering his father and take his divine spark therefore becoming a god. I hope his goals have set some plans in motion for the future though.

Without further ado, screenshots!

Suggestions / Orc Quest Part I needs another look at
August 23, 2009, 09:13:33 PM
I done Orcs with a rather capable group before and have to say that its turned ridiculously hard. I know that it was changed to avoid the exploitment of the AI but the current layout of the map as well as the way the AI works is kind of... Odd and crushing for even the most combat effective characters.

The Orcs just seems to mass up and then surround you, making it virtually impossible to escape sometimes. I know the generic answer is going to be "Don't get swarmed" but its not that simple sometimes. Secondly when you attempt to pull back to the Stonehand Coast, the hordes that are chasing you down all transition ahead of you due to the way the engine works so you are physically trapped between them in a confined space and have to fight your way out again.

I've not heard of any groups save one thats completed it effectively and even then that may have been a one off. Perhaps one of the these suggestions below would make it more favorable.

1. Increase the respawn timing between the trickle of orc reinforcements Give us a few more seconds to get prepared so the quest is abit easier

2. Remove the continuous orc reinforcement spawn and have set waves that spawn once the previous wave is killed This will let groups coordinate better and work more effectively as a team as opposed to being completely surrounded whilst orcs are still charging at them.

Theres still the OOC metagaming factor you have to worry about people memorizing what comes with each wave but theres always OOC factors in EFU we have to deal with.

3. Remove the quest all together and come up with something else to replace it A makeshift Orc Keep we have to raid, Sharboneths men have been captured by orcs. Anything to replace the quest and to renew interest in it.

I know it sounds like a "CANT POWERQUEST ON ORCS 1" but its nothing like that. I just used to think people were overeacting when they said the revamped orcs was ridiculously hard, now I can safely eat my words and agree with them.

Thoughts?

Suggestions / Remove Brew Potion/Craft Wand
July 30, 2009, 01:08:09 AM
I was speaking to a fellow EFU'er about this and I think it merits a mention. The majority of those that use these feats "appear" to do little else but horde gold and sit about selling all day then when they wish to go do something else, go off questing without putting the aquired gold to some use to better server in some way.

There are some really creative players on the server that can pull these kind of merchants off by getting them involved with groups and putting their hard earned gold to use or. Those that don't do this just seem to.... be there and do little to add to the server, they cant change their prices to a great degree because prices are hardcoded and then ocassions can occur where we have five arcanists/clerics both selling the same potions/wands for the same price.

With the Alchemist/Herbalism systems in place, theres the possibility of these taking the place of the potion/wand monopoly we have and finally give the marketplace some actual flexibility in terms of price change and imaginative roleplay. People could go harvest reagents for the recipes to sell to alchemists, merchants can go hire shady characters to burn their competitors Ivory Moss garden or a band of people could try to form together to create a monopoly on a certain item

As a replacement for potion and wand sellers, NPC merchants should have their prices lowered to be competitive with each other with each having a reason to buy certain potions off them and travelling across the isle for them.

Chuck in any additional ideas you have folks.

Suggestions / Add more class skills to base classes
January 21, 2009, 02:16:45 AM
Since we can now add PRC's using just overrides, I was wondering if we could finally fix some base classes that really do deserve a certain skill to become a class skill.

For instance, If I want to create a really influential fighter that is big and scary, or is really good at talking people down. My first idea and no doubt others will be "I guess I'll take one rogue level for social skills", which is great but you also get a feat you might not think will fit with your character (Unless he can sneak attack in full plate >_>)

A sorcerer is meant to be treated with suspicion and caution, rumours say that he does deals with demons to get his powers. People would be scared of him, not when his intimidate skill is a lowly 4 because of limited progression due to cross classing.

Theres plenty of other arguable cases for what classes should gain skills as a class skills, but at 2AM I cant really think of them at the minute. What I will say though that if such a thing was implemented, after consulting the good ScottyB [DM], it would take a few seconds to download since the overrides are just textfiles.

I'm not sure how much work it'll take to implement such a thing though. So thoughts, comments, additions and the usual Trolling is welcomed.

Introductions and Group Management / Amaunatori
October 19, 2008, 08:55:14 PM
Well, most of the Amaunatori are ether dead or just on permenant hiatus, which is why I'm making this thread.

Who are they?

The Amaunatori are a group of worshippers that venerate the ancient deity, Amaunator.

Back in Ancient Netheril, Amaunator was the diety of Order, law, the Sun and to a lesser extent, time. His justice he gave out was extremely harsh but extremely fair. His worshippers often comprised of rulers, soliders and powerful wizards. (but could also extend to pretty much any lawful character, just use common sense)

Amaunator was a careful and meticulous deity who made certain that every agreement was written down, contracted, signed, sealed, and witnessed. An extremely lawful deity, he followed the letter of the law, not necessarily the spirit of itâ€"unless the spirit was a great deal more to his liking. He expected the same of his followers.

When Netheril fell, the common people who were not killed by the fall of the enclaves (the only living worshippers of the deity) largely abandoned Amaunator, believing that he had done nothing to prevent the disaster. His followers were right, but contractually, his hands were tied. Magic in all its forms was under the exclusive control of Mystryl, and Amaunator had no lawful right to interfere in any way, even when a magical catastrophe, such as Netheril’s fall, was in the process of occurring.

Over the centuries, many theories have been put forward by later religious scholars as to what ultimate fate Amaunator met. Some insist that he died, but others (notably the sunmasters of the Brotherhood of the Glorious Sun) argue that he was reborn as Lathander. Still others believe he survives as the vengeful Bedine deity known as At’ar the Merciless and yet others assert that he turned his back on Faerûn and entered the pantheon of the lands of Kara-Tur or simply moved on to other planets (such as Oerth). The truth is that with the loss of nearly all his followers in Netheril after its fall, Amaunator began the long, arduous, and painful process of dying of neglect. After about a millennium, he did not have enough power left to maintain his power base in the outer planes and was ruthlessly exiled to the Astral Plane. His corpse now drifts with the endless astral tides, awaiting a day when some ambitious spirit may help him regain his once-proud heritage.

What we're about

The Amaunatori are experts in wiritng up contractual agreements, laws, amendments and other contract binding agreements, with the current political situation in EFU:A. Being a Amaunatori is a exciting time as you have the potential and power to bring your expertise to the table and play a hand in shaping a government that will rule the ziggurat.

There is no right way to play a amaunatori, you could be a good hearted amaunatori that wishes to create a government with the peoples interests in mind so that they will admire and cheer your name. Or you could be a dark hearted amaunatori that schemes to create subtle laws and use the political strife to create a government of tyranny and opression where the only one who benefits are the ones that serve you. All this is possible with being a follower of Amaunator.

Why should I join up?

If you want to play a charismatic, RP focused character and have a potential hand in shaping the potential government. Then a worshipper of Amaunator is for you, political groups will take a interest in you and attempt to earn your support (or your ire as such has happened in the past) if you make yourself known and show what your capable off.

Suitable alignments are:-

Lawful Good
Lawful Neutral
Lawful Evil

Class requirements are:-

Any that would make use of contracts or have a valid reason why they worship Amaunator, I don't think Amaunator had paladins although I would suggest speaking with a DM before you create one to make sure.

How do I join?

Find me IG, wheter its your level 6 that is doubting the teachings of his god, or you just need a new character after your old one died. You'll be watched and if deemed suitable, be involved with the temple of Amaunator and its plans.

Additional infomation can be found below
