General Discussion / Re: Don't call it a Comeback
September 27, 2021, 12:43:25 PM
The idea isn't to dissuade you from playing the PC, its to make your PC very vulnerable in case someone wants to kill it. I don't think dissuading people is going to work, you could de-level my PC to 1 and I'd still play her--not all of us care so much about all that, even though most of you take it very, very seriously. But a short period of vulnerability just gives people options, that's all.

Not trying to control people's behavior, instead making sure the OTHER pcs have lots of options available to them for how they want to respond.

Why don't you think it would have any effect? Could you explain in any greater detail?

How about a mandatory de-leveling back to level 6 for any PCs returning from an extended break?

This would represent their skills atrophying from a lack of practice, and would limit their ability to impact the server (in terms of force anyway) until they can get back up to the higher lvls, forcing them into a kind of re-establishment phase before they can really get cranking.

Suddenly disappearing is the easiest thing in the world to cognitively adjust to. People die all the time, vast majority of the time my PC didn't witness it. She's nonetheless gotten extremely used to people suddenly disappearing and their sandcastles crumbling . Hell, by the dozen sometimes.

RIP Malik. Trying to figure him out from afar took a lot of attention and time.

As a frequent summoner player, I'll also chime in to say this would be one of the most overpowered ideas that has yet been suggested here. As has been noted, there are already ways to boost the power of a summon by 1 circle, and having these boosts stack would make summoners just game-breakingly powerful. Even if they didn't stack, this would still easily make spell focus conjuration the strongest feat in the game, with how strong some of the custom summoning themes are.

A better idea in this direction would be to have a 1/reset (2/reset for GSF) consumable for the feat that could be used to boost your next summon (or few maybe) by 1 level. That's still much stronger than the current feat though, which is already a good one that is frequently picked.

General Discussion / Re: A behind the scenes DM thank you

This is the best efu has ever been imo, though I never did have the privilege of playing the preceding chapter.

I've been recently thinking about how it's simply come so far. I can remember how I laughed the first time I got to 94 and heard the Kill Bill song, and I've since been paying pretty close attention to just the musical choices made for each area and some of them (cough 64 cough) just knock your socks off.

It's a small thing, but it's a good example of how much care went into the emotional impact of the world, and it really kind of highlights what I personally love most about efu--how it's the only video game that has filled me up so completely with such crazy intense feelings, that are otherwise the things of film and story. Video games don't make me cry, except this one from time to time.

The fact that it has to put up with all the issues that any digital space has to deal with and still remains this well cared-for--truly impressive work folks, kudos.

Oh and just something I've been wanting to get off my chest ... this game used to be a lot harder. There's just more stuff now, the economy is richer, so every pc is richer and better supplied than in say, chapter 1.

Your PC's first +1 deflection or natural ac point? Used to take a lot of grinding to get. Lesser restoration was something you ran out of when you needed it. Blur was not drank by everyone all the time because brew potion needed to be taken with a class level, so it was actually kinda rare to have access to blur. Quests weren't easier though, people just died more, or used really tight party tactics to win. IE was common for fighters, with its +10 ac. Frankly it was more or less necessary to front line without a healer glued to your butt.

So you youngsters better be grateful for...! Ok I'll see myself out.

Oh, and thanks too. This has been a real sanity-saver during the worst parts of covid.

I'm no dm, but I do play clerics a lot.

Afaik, if there was something wrong with your chosen deity or relic, you would be unable to cast spells at all from the very start. If you tried, you would get a different error message in each case. The spell failure % chance is something a dm applies after character creation, and they have their own methods for determining when to apply it, that I imagine they want kept behind the dm curtain.

Basically if it's working right now, it's 99% likely it's working as intended and everything is fine.

The boss mobs at the very end of it are set as hostile to the rest of the mobs in the final room, so they all go ham on each other as soon as they spawn.

My pc always found Tristram to be a little frightening, he had a drive and saavy inside of him that could potentially become dangerous. I rly loved him tho, well played.

RIP Crook.

It was really neat watching your shift from your Crookjaw persona to your Autumnmask persona, well played.

Generally I would agree, but I wouldn't fully expect it. PvP out of the blue with no rp and FD with no previous interactions, while outside the norm, do certainly happen.

No, they will not spare your PC at every opportunity. EfU playerbase is a mixed bag, like a lot of things, and some of us are fucking shitty people that will enjoy your misery. There's a long post about pvp karma in the wiki, and it wasn't written because we're all a bunch of angels that didn't need it. There are people here that believe in neither karma nor the importance of others being happy.

I think you're right about a lot of us though, maybe even the majority. I've certainly seen some intense pvp hounds take it very respectfully and maturely, with a great touch for the enjoyment of their IG opponents. And I've seen others simply not give a fuck and do whatever they want.

Sorry if I'm being harsh, this would just be an extra shitty one to learn the hard way. Best you harden your heart just a little bit first.

RIP Gethin. One of my fav PCs ever on the server.

Can any Dungeons and Dragons player anywhere aspire to higher praise than meme-machine and always fun and interesting? Kudos.

I never got to run with Grindler much, he was from that older generation that taught my PC the basics. He was definitely fun and interesting though, and a couple of his lessons are, almost exactly word-for-word, how my PC passes them down to others today.

Well played.

Bug Reports / Four Element Ring wrong immunities
August 01, 2021, 07:36:01 PM
Couldn't decide if this should go in Suggestions or Bugs, but going with bugs since I'm pretty sure its accidental.

Ring is obviously intended to give some immunity to fire, acid, cold and elec, but instead gives some immunity to fire, acid, elec and elec. So no cold and double electric.
