Basic knowledge:
- Mongrelmen share traits of beasts. Horrific and deformed, they are shunned and hunted by most civilized people. The mongrelmen are believed to be the result of a changeling curse, or the degenerate progeny of shapechangers frozen in a morphing stage. The few Mongrelmen who manage to survive to adulthood grew into a small community, hidden, in the alleys of the Mongrelwoods. Most of them pay homage to "the Hidden One", believing in the ritual of feasting which involves the consumption of the flesh of dead humanoids. By consuming the flesh, they believe they will slowly take the charateristics of those species and that by consuming enough different species, the Hidden One will restore their <pure> form -- some more feral Mongrelmen believe this will grant them the power to shapechange as a true Lycanthrope.

Build your character as you would think an Aasimar/Tiefling/Genasi -- but rather than having features linked to the planar -- the Mongrels have disgusting features of animals hard to conceal. These features should be OBVIOUS to those who read your description if you do not hide them. They are loners, paranoid and fearful of most civilized men. Certain tribes of Mongrelmen have grown so akin to beasts that they have gone more feral and evil . The rare members of their kind  that are sharing the traits of many animals are referred to Mongrelfolk Pariah.

Mongrelfolk possess minor shapechanging powers capable of changing into their cursed animal form -- without the power commonly seen with lycanthropy.

Relationship toward other factions:

- Mongrelfolks are despised by people of the Ticker Square and the Peerage - they are disgusting, crippled, deformed shape between animal and man believed to be cursed by the King. Most of their interaction with the common folks end up in them being chased away, stoned or killed. For this reason, most Mongrelfolks are loners and VERY reluctant to trust others and venture into most civilized hubs. They tolerate the people of the Pond, and can trade with others - but for the most part they act as a feral animal would in most interaction with civilized folk (with fear or aggression).
- Mongrelfolks are more trusting of other shapechangers, changelings, and druids -- while this does not mean they trust them immediately, the shared shapechanging ability leads them to identify more with these beings.

The commands to shapeshift is similar to the ones of Lycanthropes -- but not having access to the hybrid form.

General Discussion / Re: Staying Positive

Are you saying that to earn a bit of street cred, DrD?

I'd say that learning resilience, capacity to bounce back after a hard outcome is something that will help you in every chapter of your life - whether you learn it on EFU or in real life is irrelevant so long as you do learn to.

So whether you win or lose- so long as you are able to pick up the pieces and avoid becoming a bitter, resentful man - you're a winner. DMs will love you for it, and other players will respect you for it. I'm not saying it is easy, but it's easier to do here, in efu, where you can just restart with a new identity, a new character and try again and again-- than in your real life - workplace, friends, family, etc.

Are you a bitter, resentful man? For sure, everyone has times - just try to make that time LAST less and less, and you'll be better off in the long run. Don't shoot yourself in the foot by spreading your resentment to everyone- nobody wants to hear that. Spread it to a few trusted people, that will help you bounce back, if they don't help and instead you brood on your resentment together, keep it to yourself - do something else - and then come back to EFU (if you want).

Your post stinks of resentment, and trying to act 'tough'. Stop that, it doesn't suit you.

- Mongrelwoods areas accessible to PCs (Next reset) - These are wilderness areas - districts of the city that have been overgrown with dense vegetation ... acting and moving as if possess by an unseen power and populated with feral/wilder humanoids (Learn In-game).
- 4 new low level solo quests
- 2 new quests (3-8) - and (3-9), hard quests (That have not yet been balanced) with a new reward system for quests that provides an automated 'share' of spoils (That hasn't been balanced either) (ie no penalty for large groups in reward sharing.)
- Many new monsters (Most of them dangerous in some way).
- New secrets...
- Lots of new behavior scripts for the AI / beware of unpredictable stuff...

These areas are DANGEROUS wilderness areas. There are means for PCs who wish to dwell there to be able to survive, although it is challenging.

Watch out for bugs - overly rewarding - and so on, please.

General Discussion / Re: The MMOization of EFU
May 04, 2019, 01:10:27 AM
If it's any consolation - what I get from this topic is :
- It's harder to interact/hook in random newbie/low level players/strangers to experience the content together OR there is less incentive to do so and in some case, it might be non-intentionally discouraged.
- The bulk of the randomization being at reset make people play more around reset to ensure they don't stumble on 'cleared' content.
- It's hard to get 'up and running' and because of it- it's a barrier for meaningful PCs/partaking in harder stuff/plotting, and so on.

We're working on these issues, already.

As in every new version - There is always a run-in period where we fix world issues that are not apparent from the beta testing / building phase.

The randomized part of the content is very very vast and a lot of work has been sinked in - I think it's a very attractive part of the server.

I do agree that stable core QA or means to progression are needed either to hook players in for travel - However, this has been a problem with EVERY new chapter. EVERY new chapter, you have to grind to find out the "HOW TO" of levelling/loot/getting other people attention. Perhaps randomization makes it more tedious but the goal was for the experience to never get stale and a new each time you logged in - Again, I do agree that the biggest goal on EFU is to do the content with OTHER CHARACTERS / PLAYERS as they are the real interest of the server.

I do think you need options to hook in players on an adventure - and QAs provided you with these options - it might be a harder to be creative to hook in others on an adventure as a player with only randomized content - but it's always harder to hook in players on an adventurer when you are new to a setting - so its both something we want to address and something that will go away as you learn the content of the server.

That being said - the sensationalism journalism headline posts "CRISIS ON EFU", "IS EFU DYING?", "THE SHIT-ITIZATION of EFU?" - I get a bit tired of.

...The alleyways beyond the Peerage and the pond shifted and twisted giving birth to a forsaken district of the 99... The Mongrelwoods...

Away from the King's watch, into the shadowy streets, thick vegetation has grown giving a natural wilderness of its own. Stray dogs run wild. Gutter cats hunts, and the Mongrelmen, deformed humans stuck between man and beast live in the abandoned houses living a solitary life.

On behalf of Silas, the owner of the Open door, a group of courageous adventurers traveled into the Mongrelwoods in the search for the missing children - there - a sinister truth of the Ring 99 was learn - that the families of noble and common-folks alike abandoned their children in these woods should they bore any deformities or malformation that might mark them as a Changeling - an old legend speaking that if such children were gifted to the woods, their bloodline would be kept pure of the Changeling curse.

While the path to the shifting alleyways of the Mongrelwoods are hidden to most, some say that this venture is only a sign that they open up oncemore to the people of Ring 99 bringing this wilderness district back within reach of the common men of Ring 99 ... For the better or worst, as powerful and vicious shapechangers are said to dwell in the depth of the woods, and their return would surely signal more dangers for the Ring.
