General Discussion / Heaven and Hell in Faerun
April 09, 2009, 07:34:27 PM
I know that there are supposed to be 9 levels of hell in the D & D universe but what about Heaven?  does anybody have a link to something discussing the heaven's for Faerun?  I know folks go before their respective deity when they die but when someone is speaking about "heaven" or "the heavens", how would they refer to it?

Thanks.

General Discussion / Need some gameplay advice
April 04, 2009, 12:26:15 PM
OK, I am going to try and not turn this into a rant.  I need some advice on the level 8+ / how to still enjoy playing your character issue that I keep running into.  It basically stems from something similar to what happened last night.  Got my arse handed to me in a quest, survived (sort of) but burned a lion's share of my consumables, mostly healing.

Now, I realize that once in a while we are handed a quest that is hard as hell and really causes us to be intelligent with our gear and think creatively, etc.  I'm cool with that.

Problem is this.  I now have to spam the heck out of about 2 quests that I can think of so that I can earn money or find healing in order to get back to the place that I can survive if this happens again...  I have to do this because my character isn't anywhere close to a merchant build and there aren't any other ways to earn coin that I can think of, either spam quests, or be a merchant (or join a DM faction).

So, my request for advice is this.  How do folks keep themselves afloat?  I am in a PC faction that doesn't rob and pillage, so that's out.  I am not  a crafter, that's out.

There are quite a few higher level characters around, they don't seem to be broke.  (Oh, and I refuse to de-level myself just so I can get back down the the really spammable paying quest range...)

Any advice is appreciated.

I am about to rebuild my gaming box and wanted to know if someone could tell me how I can port over a NWN module that saves things locally.  I use the "Pretty good character generator" module to test out builds etc and I have saved a fair amount of stuff in the persistant storage that they have there.  If I just move the module file over will it carry over?  where is that stuff stored?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

(Incidentally i'm "upgrading" the box from Vista to XP... and breaking the RAID 0 array and then moving to RAID 1, in case anyone was wondering why i'm rebuilding)

Suggestions / Holy Water
February 27, 2009, 07:25:14 PM
It seems that the creation of simple holy water to be used in either ceremonies or to be used in combating undead would be a pretty simple task for a priest.  Find some type of clean water and cast bless on it would seem to be all that needs to be done.

What do ya think?  It doesn't have to be massively powerful, maybe 1d8 damage versus undead.  Would be an interesting RP creation as well.

In the meantime, RP wise, could a potion of bless be used as holy water?

Thanks.

I was looking through the new cleric domains, which are great, specifically the following:

Storm Domain
Feat: Resist Energy (Electricity)
Spells: gust of wind (2), call lightning (3), ice storm (5)

But I looked back at one of my favorite clerics, a Kossuthan that had the fire domain and i've always felt it was underpowered.  I would suggest adding Resist Energy (Fire) to it and possibly the Combust spell as well.

Suggestions / Reduce the weight of resident papers
January 05, 2009, 03:54:50 PM
I started a new PC yesterday and went over to the governor's tower thing to get my resident papers or whatever they are called.  They weigh .5 pounds.  That seems kind of rediculous.  A half a pound of paper is alot of paper, regardless of what it is made of.

This is kind of silly to suggest I suppose but with that and the sending stone, they total a pound.  I suggest reducing the weight to .1 pounds.

Bug Reports / Couldn't register with the governor's clerk
December 22, 2008, 02:51:02 AM
Earlier I wasn't able to register with the governor's clerk.  She mentioned something like "Hey, newcomer, welcome!" or something, but I couldn't click on her to do anything.

Thanks.

The link from:

http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/index.php?pageid=mechanics

Under Skill changes to the forums posting regarding the reduced DC on traps links to something that existed on the old forums.  I put "old_" in front of forums in the link and it works.  The text in the posting is a bit out of date given the new setting as well.

I figure that any newbie might want to read that and wouldn't figure out to change the "forum" to "old_forum".

Thanks.

Bug Reports / Item missing after server reset yesterday
September 22, 2008, 12:19:47 PM
I'm not sure if this is a bug report or a DM question but i'll go with bug report, feel free to move it.

Yesterday afternoon I found a rather nice helmet call the "Mask of Pitiless Flames" while on the marching dead quest.  The server was reset some time later and when I logged back in after the reset, it was no longer in my inventory.  The rest of the items I found during the quest were there.  Just no helmet.  Is this on purpose?  Was that mask not supposed to be kept?

Thanks.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Aishling Halifax
September 10, 2008, 03:01:32 PM
Aishling was my first attempt at two things.  First was playing a female character, and the second was playing a pure frontliner.  I had a blast playing her.  Playing a female with an alt account was very interesting as it took people a bit of time to figure out it was me.  Playing a frontliner was extremely fun and I think I will keep doing it for a while.  She was actually concieved initially as a weapon master build but for RP reasons it just never really happened.   I will say that Spring Attack is a fantastic feat to have, especially for someone that missclicks as much as I do.

She interacted with many PC's, highlights of the last few weeks of her life were her friends in the Sovereign Host, which she joined.  Kedrick Reynolds, Egon, Elina, Kairn, Mars.  John Keel once slammed a door in her face...  She hated Pyotr Ignatiev who tried to get her executed by the Spellguard.  She was able to talk her way out of it though and was only banished...

Aishling died during the grand DM event when Sanctuary fell to the Chosen.  Unfortunately it was pretty quick along "the way" but if ya gotta go...  it might as well be while the server is in the midst of being completely reworked...

These were her basics.

Here is a shot from the Azzam insanity.  Aishling was one of the four that chased him from the town hall into the watch house.  He then completely crushed one of us and the rest of us kind of backed away till reinforcements arrived....

Aishling got one really cool piece of DM loot, the "Blade of the Golden Lion" from Mort / Sergeant Blackbeard after doing a crazy assault on Colonel Spitfire's camp.  Probably the most fun spiced quest i've undertaken.

Just before heading up to the gate to defend the city during the last dark of her life:

Defending the gate, or trying too...  The lag was rough.  She died / was knocked out trying to fight alongside the lieutenant...  Lesson learned, when a DM is fighting and there is lag, don't try to be heroic...

And this is about ten minutes before she died on the way to the new settlement.  When she could no longer respawn.

Unfortunately I missed a ton of good screenshot opportunities with Aishling.  Just got too swept up in the excitement of things to remember to hit print screen.  Thanks to everyone who interacted with her, to the DM's who made the last month or so the most exciting time on EFU I have had.  Thanks to Mort in particular for giving her some sweet DM loot, my first and it actually had stuff on it I had to look up.  Didn't know what Blade Thirst was...

Good times.
