General Discussion / Oddball racial templates
November 29, 2010, 10:34:45 AM
Stupid notion that popped into my head: What would people think about applying nonstandard or planar templates to races other than humans? Wouldn't it be possible to have, say, a Tiefling/dwarf or an Aasimar/elf? Would it be inconceivable to have, say, hin with genasi blood?

Even as I type, I realise that there might be balance issues and that is why it is ordinarily humans only, but still, what do people think? I'm just curious, really.

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Ulfrin
November 25, 2010, 10:51:25 AM
Well, Ulfrin finally came to her end. Here's some glimpses from her life.

Here's her first encounter with the Order:

Then, one time after returning from an attempt to find the Lost Templar:

An early moment in the H'bala plot:

And, of course, two pictures from her first encounter with the farmland project, and how Jeneil changed Ulfrin's life by making her part of it:

Then here, from one of her last adventures with Durgrim before their estrangement:

I had a great run with this character. Thank you, all you guys who helped make her real with your roleplay!

Suggestions / Pathing in Kingsman
November 22, 2010, 09:39:30 PM
The pathing in the Kingsman is completely insane. If you click at some point it is likely to make you go the long way around or stuck somewhere or worse if a table is in the way. Could we get tables and chairs in there adjusted a bit so it is more possible to navigate the place, please?

Suggestions / Package of magical potion bottles?
November 09, 2010, 12:19:41 PM
Speaking as a player of a potion brewer, would it be possible to make magical potion bottles stackable? Or alternately sell some object that, when used, turns into ten magical potion bottles? It would save me a lot of annoying counting and clicking.

Suggestions / Ignore function for Whispering Wind?
November 06, 2010, 05:29:29 PM
Is there a way to set Whispering Wind on Ignore? Right now it seems to me that its main purpose is to make the caster able to anonymously harass others and that annoys me. If there isn't an Ignore function for it, could we get one, please?

General Discussion / Paladins, evil and Detect Evil
October 31, 2010, 01:26:00 PM
I've for a while thought about paladins and their relations to/opposition towards evil characters. One of the things that have troubled me is the reactions following their discovery of an evil character due to the 'Detect Evil' ability. From what I have seen, it is extremely common for paladins to instantly and dramatically proclaim the 'evil nature' of the person they have spotted and then subsequently refuse to have anything to do with that person. Now, I am not saying that this is a 'wrong' reaction -- it's just that it bothers me if it is supposed to be the only possible reaction for a paladin.

I think I should clarify my thoughts a little. While I've met many paladin characters over time, I tend to divide them into subcategories. One category is the 'crusader' paladin whose instant and knee-jerk reaction to evil is to out sword and hack away. Another is the 'defender' paladin who tends toward the more patient and planning and allows the enemy to reveal its intentions. A third and fairly rare type is the 'diplomat' paladin who likes to move in political circles and use the law itself as her weapon in the battle against evil. Fourth and rarest is the 'redeemer' paladin who, while certainly not afraid to out sword and do bloody work, will nonetheless first seek to understand the nature of the evil he confronts in an attempt to see if it cannot be swayed towards a peaceful solution and perhaps even turned away from evil.

As I see it, the instant rejection of evil characters might work fine and be in character for the first type but becomes rather more problematic for categories two, three and four. To be honest, I don't like the idea that a paladin character of mine should have to be that blunt and unsubtle. What concerns me here is whether it is considered RP acceptable behavior here on EfU: A for a paladin to bide her/his time and observe a detected 'evil' character for a while before deciding what to do about it, which includes grouping with the character on occasion, listening to her/his ideas and motivations and so forth. (I am not saying join their guilds or that sort of thing, only that the rules for the paladin says that the paladin cannot abide direct evil acts from her companions, not that she has to instantly and automatically reject anyone who pings evil on the detect evil ability.)

In short, what is acceptable behavior for the paladin here? Is the automatic rejection mandatory, do you feel, or are shades of subtlety permissible for paladins? And in the latter case, what is permissible and when is it 'too much'?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
~Hack

Suggestions / Pack mules
October 26, 2010, 10:48:22 PM
This is purely cosmetic and probably not important, but... the pack mules that inexplicably look like oxen make me wince a little. Are there horses from the 1.69 patch in the mod? Couldn't the oxen conceivably be replaced with unsaddled small horses for slightly more convincing mules? :???:

Screen Shots & Obituaries / Solace
September 17, 2010, 01:20:25 AM

Well, thanks to everyone who interacted with her, as well as thanks to those who attended her sendoff! Special thanks go to Elera, Cacey, to BrittanyPanthas for being patient with me when I was being unreasonable as well as being a great DM, and to Mirana Moore for being an awesome guard and executioner!

I had a blast playing her. Not bad for my first real try at an EfU character :)

Off-topic Discussion / User-Side Bugs
September 12, 2010, 08:23:29 AM
So, this came to me yesterday while playing...

I had just run to the Docks with my character Snow to start picking up clay for the quest Clay for the Clay Man. So I hit one of the clay spots and promptly got the message that I do not find anything of interest. My first reaction was, "Aw, is the quest bugged again?" My second reaction, following right on the heels of the first one, was "Errr, maybe the quest would work better if I had actually remembered to take it from the quest giver." *facepalms*

Then there was the time a long time back when I was DM on another server. I logged in one evening and to my surprise found that I was the only player online. I wondered a little about that but figured that maybe the server had just come online again after a crash. Time passed, I was still the only one on and I wondered more and more what in the world was up. Then I remembered that our head dev had created a copy of the server for testing purposes the night before and asked us to log in and test some stuff, and that my Direct Connect button was still pointed at the test server... *facepalms again*

...while I realise it may be a bit much to ask people for stories about how they made asses of themselves, anyone else have anything funny in this vein?

General Discussion / Cover names
August 30, 2010, 05:46:58 PM
There's a practice you see from time to time where a player will name a character something but give another name out when interacting with other players. This is presumably in order to give the effect that they are hiding their real name, and while it puzzles me a bit, I am actually okay with that.

It becomes less than okay for me, however, once I start to have to keep track of several players whose 'known' names are different from the ones they have in blue about their character and I get told off for failing to remember that I don't actually know the 'real' name of the character. Yes, I am technically in breach of IC. But no, it's not a fair cop to me; it's distracting for me to have one name hovering in my face but having to remember to use another. For some reason it's easier for me to remember that I do not know a character's name at all.

Therefore I'd like to ask those who have characters who use cover names to please show a little patience with my less than perfect memory. I really don't mind supporting your IC image of using a faked name. I do kind of mind being snapped at when I slip up, for I'm not really all that perfect. *sigh*

And now I'm off to create a new character called Antonidas Aloysious Alkibiades Alexandronicus Abraxas-Abalamahalamatandra. He will introduce himself with the line, "Some call me... Tim." >.>

Bug Reports / My goblin pass! >.<
August 29, 2010, 09:12:24 AM
Ulfrin finally talked that darn half-drow in the Hanged Goblin into letting her have gobsquat residence papers but they got stripped off her at reset. >.< Did they get turned into a quest item instead of a reward?

Bug Reports / Clay for the Clay Man: Again >.<
August 19, 2010, 08:04:39 AM
The sandy spot closest to the place where you zone to the Island -- Coastline -- Reef area does not yield pots of clay even when you roll very high results. It says you find clay but you don't get any.

...sorry about being so nitpicky about this darn quest... >.<

Bug Reports / Clay for the Clay Man: partial bug
August 12, 2010, 02:39:55 PM
I noticed that while you can collect clay normally in the main Docks area, it still does not work on the sandbanks immediately west of it where you used to be able to collect from five or six more spots.

Bug Reports / Broken transition?
June 19, 2010, 10:52:59 PM
My character Solace has been trying to get through the transition in the upper half of the west side of Island - Colony - Warden's District to the Ziggurat without success. In the other direction it worked fine. I suspect a broken transition, though it may be that the Zig is simply trying to keep halflings out. >_>
