Help for new players

I've noticed that we get new players peeking in fairly often. How about we give them something kind of like the bell in the faction houses to pull that will call the PCs of players willing to help them? Done on a volunteer basis, of course. Alternately we could establish some sort of marker for character descriptions that inform new players that 'this character is a volunteer guide for new players here, speak with them to get IC guidance.' The latter would obviously be easiest as it would not require much scripting. All that would really be needed was a sign in the intro area that told new players to look for characters with 'new player guide' in their description.
