PC Faction Lair System

It would be nice if perhaps in part at least the lair system could apply to the PC faciton rental areas of Upper Sanctuary. I feel it would add more robust flavor to them to a degree, though it would likely require application to the DMs instead of just the House of Governance PCs.

It could add a lot of volume and scope to those positions though.

Not just upper, but indeed a good suggestion.

True I guess! Could work for the rented crone space for lower style thugs, etc. I just feel like with these new improvements it can add more potential to these regions instead of just a sink hole for money for rest and storage. Actually an IC presence of merchant guards, noble retainers, Lay-Fighters at the Temple and so on to represent the NPcs as the faction improves, etc.

What sort of risk would be provided though? These are pretty safe areas for people who are part of the central playerbase and already get to enjoy all the benefits that come with that. These sort of areas already get improved with the donation bowls and are free resting, storage, and protection for PCs that aren't kill on sight hermits out on their own. The can't be raided (with some exception) and the owners of them aren't at any sort of dangerous area or risk for their lives like the monster lairs are so something really ought to be added in to the idea to make them equally dangerous to maintain if the rental areas were to be upgraded so. They already add many of the same benefits other than npc guards at only the cost of a little gold, not your potential life.

Personally I believe it would add a degree of potential for burglary on behalf of criminal PCs if there was a viable pursuit of raiding those lairs. It is always hard to create new and innovative methods for criminal actions. The possibility of hiring bandits and thieves to break into your foes lair or pursue a daring mid-day heist or similar has potential to bring some strife to Upper Sanctuary. Granted I know it doesn't have the same allure as a monster lair being raided but at times crime gets old as "Simply banditry".

A fair concern to raise as for instance these locations far less threatening indeed than lairs abroad but it's one I think could be addressed in a potentially cool way, maybe. If not that's understandable.

I dont know about upper, but the lower fortress would make for a nice dynamic hideout that could be fought over by the various gangs and cults.  I've always thought a "king of the hill" style area would be nice to encourage people to clamor over its benefits.
