I've noted -like everywere else- a lack of mage staves in the module, i don't think i've seen even one, at all. Maybe i log in at the wrong times, but still..

I know mage staffs are the big deal and supposedly used by powerfull wizards and sorcerers.. but i'd still like to see some of thouse arround. My new "experiment" wizard Gedd could use one with the stick model, would fit him. And other wizards i've seen could use a more fancy one.

As for the effects.. i'll leave it to the DMs but i'm guessing something like "Spellcraft +X" or "Concentration +X" althought it would be pretty cool if there were staves with "Electic jold 3 uses/day" that extend the number of ofensive cantrips cast for spellcasters. Maybe then we would see wizards using magic all the time rather than just at a couple enconters :P?

Really good wizards got staves in the past. They're a big perk and I like how incredibly rare they are. Adding weak ones to the module so ~everybody~ could have them would just cheapen them.

Also, the staffs glow, and EFU/A DMs are loathe to give out things that glow.

Regular stick-staffs are (or were) pretty common, though, even magical stick-staffs. I'm sure they're still around somewhere.

Just get a quarterstaff.

There are a bunch of +spellslot weapons, but they are all daggers or clubs. THose are excellent to expand your Level 1 and 0 slots, and they are common questloot froma  certain quest. There are quarterstaffs with Lore and Spellcraft, cool charges etc.

It is however perfectly possible to play a mostly offensive wizard without them, the main advantage they give is that in small parties you can use PFE not Circle and save a slot for Fireball etc. A good way to practice is to take extended Blur not Invis as a defensive spell, and just always devote one L3 slot to an offensive spell and a couple L1 slots to Colour Sprays.

All you need for a good offensive wizard is SF/GSF Conjuration or Evocation, 14/16 CON and Toughness, and planning. A Raven familiar helps too, to boost your DC. It's harder than just buffing as you have to think what you're likely to face and how much the group, but they can really speed up a fight. Examples include Fireballing an entire mob of Gnolls to death in one shot or Combusting the Jergal boss so he drops twice as fast.

Real Staves are for accomplished wizards and extremely prestigious.
