This skill is rather broken, and I was wondering if it could be upgraded. You can only block the same number of attacks that you have, and you can't block more than 3 attacks per round off a foe regardless. Furthermore, it overrides other combat modes.

I've seen servers that added a +1 Shield AC bonus for each 5 ranks, if you were wielding a light weapon and not using a shield. Could something similar be worked in here, possibly capped at +3 so you can't outdo +1 largeshields, but can make a fencer by spending the SP?

Seconded...
The parry skill is kinda lame as it stands.

Skill synergy off AC would be way cool...

Other opptions (if mechanically possible???) could be to base it off BaB instead of number of attacks (and I mean base, not buffed attack bonus).
~or~
Add level to the formula, i.e.; can parry number of attacks + PC level. (This might be broken based off the fact that a 10th could parry 13 attacks a round.) Maybe X.5 of PC level?.. [shrug, w/e]

Just some food for thought. I do feel the parry skill is lame and needs some type of help.

I think the problem is that parry takes a lot of AC from you (because you can't use heavy armor or shields) and you can only parry the attacks of the enemy you're fighting with. At such low levels as we see on efu, parry is mostly fine when keeping that in mind. And by mostly, i mean that it sucks but can be used every once in a while.

How about this:
+1 AC for each 5 modified ranks in parry while in parry mode
+1 additional attack per round when on parry mode

This would fix it, i suppose.

Referenced so you can have a look:

You can't ever parry more than 3 attacks, no matter what, so unless it's re-written from the ground up (which sounds complicated if it is possible), even granting bonus attacks to use on ripostes wouldn't fix it.
I was suggesting a permanent AC bonus like Tumble grants, but only with a light weapon, so that it can only be used to replace a shield, not make greatweapon PCs stronger.

Decimate_The_Weak

Parry has it's uniqueness, but obviously, it's flaws also. I don't feel someone adept in parrying trained himself to fight multiple foes, but one singular foe, and rather well at that. A character that has been built around the parrying skill could have substitutes for when questing, fighting multiple foes, and so on, while maintaining the uniqueness of the parrying skill by only utilizing it during a duel with another PC, or boss, etc.

I think there's ways to go about this without changing it entirely, but I do agree it needs some amplification on it's level of strength and usefulness.

I agree with decimate, on a low level setting like EFU, parry one-on-one is pretty good.

Relinquish

No one remembers stilts owning everyone with parry in duels?

derfo

Not like fencers should be close to on par with traditional fighters anyways. Those favoring finesse and taking a hit mechanically helps them stand out to be unique. As Relinquish said you can be pretty successful with parry in primarily duels, (like you should be able to) and it's probably the easiest skill to get the points up in anyways.

Semli

A small bonus to AC/attack doesn't seem imbalancing, and parry is agreed to be a subpar skill as implemented currently. Anything that brings more balanced options for character to the table is a welcome change in my opinion.

Calc, 10 words in two posts! WOW! Enlighten us, sir, as to why:

1) 'parry is fine as is'
2) You are considering people with far more posts than yourself and no DM title 'noobs' (THESE people are active on the server)
3) How we should best 'learn to play'...specifically relating to EFU:A and parry.

Then you can return to you home under the bridge (troll).
Thanks and have a nice day. :D

Letsplayforfun

Parry is fine in duels, and shouldn't be equal to tanking (which is for heavy armored people).

Remember your pcs are noobs, not superheroes, and they will never get to fend off 5 people at once.
