A while ago I wanted to play a barbarian seeing how the process would allow me to seek much of the server while not being necessarily bound to the constricts of Mistlocke. While dwelling it over, I came up with the idea for a more heretical sect of followers of Brandobaris - more blood thirsty, conquest based, and finding origins more pretaining to nature and certain animals.

The base idea for the cult looks much like this:

QuoteBrandobaris the Mushussu

Know that the Scamp's true calling longs for not simply journey, but for conquest and power gained by besting ones surroundings. He finds the scales of the dragon to armour him from their dangers, the wings of eagles to lift him beyond and past the hurdles of life, and the claws of the tiger, the leopard, the mountain lion that render the flesh of his enemies. If one travels the vasts of life, of this world they may find the place of his rest; and there they will know the glory of champions for as long as they can prove themselves - for the Mushussu never stops his journey.

 • Give tiding to feline, winged beasts, or serpentine creatures either by besting them in battle, offering them gifts, or both.
 • The dragon, the chimera, any combination of the three should be revered as well, and sought to best or learn from.
 • Blood of your enemies should be carried, or drank to express the transformation that takes place within you, and to further your power.
 • Seek warm climates, champion the cold, but find ways to spread good warmth to all the realms.
 • Know that Murder is no crime if the punishment warrents such; let the guidance of the eagle, of Mushussu show you the path you must take.
 • Know as well that only the laws of nature account for the realities of the world. Men can make law, but only the predator can enforce them - for the selection of champions and strength account for what laws continue in existance.
 • Place foilage among your hunting grounds; it feeds the weak, which feed the strong, which give battle and continue the cycle.
A sect only requires one member, but a true circle harbors at least three vessles:
• A Priestess: A woman that bares the blood of a lizard, a snake, or consumes or carrries such to continue her connection to it. Through blood-letting she sees the paths we must travel upon, and through ritual and magics does she create medicine and powders that empower us.
 • An Incarnate: The Incarnate is the Warrior of Brandobaris the Mushussu; he seeks to complete himself as any other member, and there is always one in the sect, for he is both Champion in times of plenty, and the lone Jaguar in times of drought.
 • The Tale-weaver: He that seeks the guidance of the owl, the spirits of the eagle, the strength of the Roc, and the intelligence of the Hawk. He spreads magic thorugh words, and with words he continues our cycle.
Holy Weapons Include Daggers, Spears, Tridants, and Short Swords; especially those made with fangs or teeth. Ceremonial dress often consists of traveling clothes, skins of reptitles or felines, or scaled suits.

Holy days include:

The Day of Flight: High places will be sought, and one may sore; attempting strong leaps, or traveling through passes and over mountains. Place a feather among your appearal.

Crimson Mass: All members shall bleed together for a time, this blood will be collected in a bowl and then offered to Brandobaris with incease.

Festival of the Beast: Tiding is given to the Cat this day, seek to appease any local feline spirits or defeat one of their local foes. Should such a task be failed, repent by baring the scars of claws upon your back; bare for all to see.

The Week of Rest: Before the Day of the Hunt, a week of no hunting shall be held beyond what is needed to eat, to allow game time to ready themselves for the game. As well, the hunters gather strength and prepare to spend their energies there.

The Three Days of Plenty: Three day of the Hunt after a week of rest shall be held and the trophies shall be gathered to decorate your garments, and feed your brothers and sisters.

Atonement by Fire: On this day any enemy of constant strain, the sort that finds themselves beyond regular hunting paterns or sport, is offered a chance of forgiveness by passage through flame. Should your enemy concede to it, both you and him shall run through coals or flame, or burn yourselves in a marking to cease your past transgressions and move forward to find other pray, or return to the natural law of your quarrels.

I plan on playing an Incarnate, myself, and though my time to play is limited; the group in, and of itself, should allow for me to get the most out of the time I have to play. Generally the idea the cult founded its roots around Vilhon Reach and Hlondeth where Yuan-ti have much control.

Any one who wants to create a Bard/Barbarian/Rogue/Sorcerer/Ranger or perhaps even cleric with an app, is welcomed to use the notion for themselves as well. It could also be a good base for a dragon disciple or lizard-folk subrace. Any sort of Alignment could work, though the general idea is based towards evil, neutral, and chaotic elements.

All of Brandobaris' dogma could be interpreted in many different ways, be it thievery, war, or even simple alchemy. It is a very large heresy, but could prove interesting.

I just got my halfling boner going.

I will join this. I will join this, FOR BRANDOBARIS!

I think heresy is most of times way more interesting than the square interpretation of dogmas. I approve this message.

Lots of kin to aid, and power to be had - I'm having a great run with Drakein, and would be happy to have any others who might want a go spreading the ways of the Mushussu. =]
