The Legates of Ephia's Well have agreed that Knud Skargrimsson and Ivar Skargrimsson shall be offered the chance to determine their guilt and sentence for their crimes by TRIAL-BY-COMBAT. Within the arena stadium of Ephia's Well, they may face Champion of Ephia's Well, Balladeer Asherias Myl, and a partner of her choosing.

The minute details of the combat terms will be determined by Champion Myl and the Skargrimssons but she has asked us to determine the legal terms of the possible outcomes of this trial. We have decided upon the following:

Should Champion Myl and her partner win, the Skargrimssons shall:

• Swear an oath to the Axe, the Mother, and the Wroth that they shall never again violate the laws of Ephia's Well
• Pay restitution of 35,000 dinari for their crimes. Paid in dinari and/or items from their belongings, if the Skargrimssons do not possess enough to pay this restitution immediately, they are to be indebted for the remaining amount, collection and item value shall be managed and determined by the Fourth Legion
• Be indebted to the government of Ephia's Well to undergo/participate in one quest of our choosing
• Be remanded into the custody of Frostport whom shall ensure the Skargrimssons abide by these terms, less Frostport severe all association with the Skargrimssons

Should the Skargrimssons win, the Skargrimssons shall:

• Be absolved of all current crimes
• Be cleared of all current bounties
• Be cleared of any other status or conditions that prevents them from being people in good standing with Ephia's Well

Ambassador Talgard Skjelar is included in this missive incase Frostport wishes to voice any opinion or objection to these terms.

Let us all decide upon this matter quickly as surely Champion Myl and the Skargrimssons wish to resolve this matter swiftly.

When we reign victorious we want one additional ''reward'' and that is either to be enlisted as Honorguard (a Stele'd and waged title) in your service as Legates - or to be allowed to join the Janissaries (not as dweebish Scarab, but as Soldier).

In our service, we will capture Valeria or whomever else you wish.

I regard this a small ask. As a free citizen, by your current proposal, we should be able to enter service regardless. If you are wondering as to /why/ it is simply because it makes a glorious tale. In the end, this is all that matters to us.

If it helps, we would swear Oaths in victory also, if we are granted the above.

The conditions for our defeat is completely fine.

Your request for your additional term is denied for the following reasons:

First, the Accord have autonomous authority over whom joins their ranks and the Palatial Pyramid shall not violate this. As you noted, however, should you win you will would be free civilians capable of approaching the Accord as you desire. Whether or not they accept your interest would be up to them. There have been cases where individuals of renown joined the Accord and instantly or very quickly climbed the ranks due to their reputation and actions prior to their joining but, again, this is a decision of the Accord officers.

Second, this trial-by-combat is for you to determine your guilt or innocence, not for you to win any titles or honourifics. If you win, you may pursue such things after as free civilians. In particular, there are plans underway to host another tournament that includes one-on-one bouts. The title of Champion, currently held by Balladeer Asherias Myl, would be held or passed onto the final victor. Even should you lose the trial-by-combat, once you have paid off the restitution, you would effectively be free civilians in good legal standing and could participate and pursue the title. How glorious would it be for a man defeated in a previous battle to return the underdog to come out victorious?

I don't imagine they'd come to the Hanged Heron or I'd walk into the Garrison to negotiate!?
