QuoteDirector Ariette Gildebrand: Let us begin with the first: Mae Stern will be the Architect. Do you agree?
(For The Record, this Suggestion seems to surprise Apothar Stern)
Faith Kruehtzer:I did not even know Apothar Stern had studied architecture. What about her qualifications do you recommend her?
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I have reason to be confident in her skill and ability.
Faith Kruehtzer: It would be much easier for me to make a decision should you share those reasons.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: In short, Legate, the Apothar - in the estimation of my Chief Engineer - possesses at this moment the greatest mechanical mind in Ephia's Well. However, I understand that the political circumstances of such an appointment might be difficult for you to see passed. I would, then, propose a compromise. In the past, under Argyris and Gloamingdaith, there were two architects.
Faith Kruehtzer: I can predict some issues with her being the architect, yes...
(Note: The Scribes al-Faltarnis enter here)
Director Ariette Gildebrand: It has been expressed to me that there is another in Ephia's Well who is the equal of the work. One Cogsworth Clockhand.
(Note: Sergeant Gilbracht tosses the Ash here)
Faith Kruehtzer: I must sadly convey, Director, that Cogsworth recently passed away.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I see. There is, then, another - a third option that I did present to your predecessor.
(Note: Apothar Stern shows a mild reaction here, perhaps distaste? Unclear)
Aurelio d'Lyon: May I offer a suggestion, Legate and Directo-
(Note: Baladeer d'Lyon is Interupted by the Director)
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Acolyte Calliope Faith.
Aurelio d'Lyon: The Director is well informed. I too was about to suggest the benevolent Calliope. She has made many marvels.
Faith Kruehtzer: I have seen her work, yes.
Mae Stern: With all due respect, she has made a plate press and a heating coil.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: It is my suggestion, then, that both Apothar Stern and Acolyte Faith be granted the titles of Architect. They might then set to the task of work upon this District together.
Faith Kruehtzer: This I can agree to, it would now just be a matter of conveying the proposal to Legate Lhyrian for her to mull over as well.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I suspect the Legate will be amenable.
Faith Kruehtzer: I, too, doubt she would not object to it.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: With that in place, work upon the outer wall might finally begin. A promise from the Legates is one that I would gladly take back to the board.
Faith Kruehtzer: At the very least, this new step gives Legate Lhyrian and I reason to focus on finalizing the worker safety regulations.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Yes.
(Note: The Director shows Distaste for this concept)
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I'm curious as to whether you quite comprehend the impacts of "worker safety regulations", Legate. Do you have specific regulations in mind? Or do you simply think there need to be "more"?
Faith Kruehtzer: To be fr--
(Note: Baladeer d'Lyon interupts the Legate here)
Aurelio d'Lyon: If I may, Director, there is other news also you may take back to your board that they shall find pleasing to hear. The way to Ramieton, a township that grows abundant Ramie for use in looms to weave Ramie fabric has been cleared of greater bandits. This will certainly be able to feed the looms. At local cost and with short expense of the trip. Ramieton is not far from the proposed building site.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: We are aware of Ramieton, of course.
Faith Kruehtzer: Ah, yes. Thank you for reminding me, Aurelio--
Faith Kruehtzer: We are hoping to even better secure the route between the Well and Ramieton. There are some issues with some of the route being composed of small, narrow caverns, but perhaps that is something else our architects can resolve. More importantly, however I expect that the Cinquifoil Rose will be key in establishing a baseline level of security on the route. Aurelio here has plans to create a Knightshold along the path. If the Directors of Gohari Heavy Machinary are hoping to speed things along, perhaps they could Brainstorm some proposals on how to support the Rose in their work.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: If I am understanding correctly, Legate... You would like Gohari Heavy Machinery to construct for Aurelo d'Lyon a castle? I am not Zainab II, to raise hisars hither and yon at a whim, Legate.
Faith Kruehtzer: No. He has already begun plans on doing so himself and within the Rose. But anything you can propose that speeds along that work benefits the Ramieton, the Well, and your factory.
Aaisha al-Samar : I believe the Legate was merely asking that you consider what investments could be made to protect your other investments, should such be a matter the board might consider.
Faith Kruehtzer: Yes, the Deputy Chief Scribe has caught me from stumbling over my own words.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I see.
Faith Kruehtzer: Merely something to consider, yes? We can continue on to the previous topic now, if you wish.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: We presently have no investment in Ramieton. Perhaps in time we shall. How strong would you say their workers are?
Faith Kruehtzer: Would they not be a source of quality base materials for your products?
Aurelio d'Lyon: If I may? I am in talks with their leadership regarding my intentions, perhaps this is a topic for later down the line once I have broached it further with them? I feel guilty that this has taken a turn to my own personal endeavours in a way I did not mean to.
Faith Kruehtzer: Ramieton's? I have, unfortunately, yet had the chance to visit. Perhaps someone else here who has can answer?
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I see. You are under some misapprehensions. Gohari is not primarily a textile company- But I do not wish to bore you with the details, Legate. Let us move on.
 Faith Kruehtzer: Very well--worker regulations?
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Yes.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: You see, my company was told quite clearly that all of Legate Akna's agreements were null and void. You can imagine the great frustration of the board when we are told one thing one month, and a different thing the next month.
Faith Kruehtzer: Frankly, such laws are non-existent in the Well, a travesty. Any cases of those existing have come into being in very specific cases--such as the quarry. Your facility being the first of its size and magnitude proposed for the Well has revealed this unfortunate weakness in our legislation.
Aaisha al-Samar : Was this in the Tabbah 14th meeting, Director? With yourself, Legate Gloamingdaith, and Legate Argyris?
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Yes. That is correct. With all due respect, Legate - it feels to me legislation in search of a problem before it has begun. How can you make any claims as to the safety of the facility before it has even been constructed?
Aaisha al-Samar : Well, unfortunately we have no record of such assurances being given, Due to further actions of previous Leagtes. We are happy to re-open those conversations to ensure full transparency with the current Purple-Gold Regieme of course.
(Note: This Refers to a Meeting Betweem Legates Argyris and Gloamingdaith, and the Director. Records of this meeting were heavily redacted after the fact)
Director Ariette Gildebrand: And the next month, when there is a /new/ Legate in office?
Faith Kruehtzer: I plan on still being in my seat next month. But--
Director Ariette Gildebrand: We shall see, Legate.
Aaisha al-Samar : It is our hope that the current administration will be far less eager to see to the modification and destruction of their own documents, as if they have something to hide.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Legate Gloamingdaith said much the same thing to me.
Zelpha Nesendya al-Faltarnis: The spoken word is ephemeral. The written word can last even the ages.
Faith Kruehtzer: Your disappointment is exactly why we try to maintain a tradition of new Legates not overriding and completely throwing out the decisions of past Legates.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: If that is a conscious effort, it is one that has not been well executed.
Aaisha al-Samar : The Gold Administration you made these deals with seem to have seen fit to sabotage your works together, to save their own skins from scrutiny. You shall find the current administration far more invested in the future of the Well, over the future of themselves. A future you remain eager to be a part of, I am sure.
Hanson Gilbracht: I imagine the Legate'll even pinky-promise on that.
(Note: The Director displays frustration)
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Yes.
Faith Kruehtzer: I will endeavor to rediscover what Legates Argrys, Gloamingdaith, and Akna had enacted to ensure all is in order.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I see.
Aaisha al-Samar : Your aid in this matter would of course be greatly appreciated, I am sure it was only our former legates who had anything to hide in those discussions.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I believe if you will consult the contract, you will find the stated position of Gohari and Ephia's Well within.
Faith Kruehtzer: Such will also be reviewed, of course.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Now. It seems we may have reached the limit of what we may achieve with your co-Legate's absence.
Faith Kruehtzer: Do you desire another visit with her present?
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I am not going to depart Ephia's Well until we have a firm commitment from this government to begin construction. As I said, the board tires of the feet dragging. We have reason to believe that your predecessor was attempting to conduct negotiations with Hanahara Textiles and other companies to undercut us.
Faith Kruehtzer: Very well. I am sure Legate Lhyrian and I will be able to meet later today, tomorrow, the day after. In the mean time, I would invite you to rent a comfortable room in the Krak des Roses and experience the wonderful hospitality of the Rose.
Aaisha al-Samar : I hope your stay in our Humble Satrap is a pleasant one for the Duration, Director. It does have a certain... rustic charm.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: The Krak?
(Note: The Director Laughs at this Proposition)
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I've my own accomodations, Legate. But thank you for the suggestion.
Faith Kruehtzer: As for possible negotiations with Hanahara Textiles or others... I have seen nothing written about such, but do you think Legate al-Farisyya had any success gaining their attention?
Director Ariette Gildebrand: I'm quite certain she didn't.
Director Ariette Gildebrand: Live and drink, Legate.
