Legate Garen Linwood,

I reach out to you today knowing the trials of the hour. Despite every wrong done to us, I hope this letter finds you in good health. I have been praying for your grace.

Faith was a good woman. It was through happenstance that I came to know of her transition to power before its formal announcement. I endeavoured to support her, knowing how difficult the work of a Legate could be, to offer her personal reprieve and my confidence so that her taking the role would allow her to shine as bright as she deserved. She was taken from us too soon, and I offer to you, as her friend and companion, my greatest condolences.

It feels remiss of me to discuss business so soon. And yet there are things I can only imagine Faith would wish me to reassure you of, so that in the fullness of knowledge, you can make fair decisions for our realm. Know that Faith had many asks of our College of Balladeers, staking out against Kha'esh and dread Qa'im in the desert. I was inclined to offer her our support, provided that our Balladeers are given the funding and support necessary to successfully complete these actions.

I also understand well that your tenure, though perhaps unexpected, is your own to direct. To that end, when you are ready, I would be heartened to receive your requests, suggestions, or instructions in person or in writing, at your convenience. If you merely want to talk, know that my doors are open and my ear is available to you.

Let our songs be swords. Let our oaths be bright. Let us bloom, ever, in the ashes.

And never shall we wilt,

Lyrist Aeronwy Caddick,

Your letter is appreciated, as are your condolences.

We will be having a funeral tomorrow or the day after I believe, Waterbearer Evarielle has the details.

I know Faith trusted you a great deal, asking for my opinion on your becoming magistrate. Which, I supported wholly. As mentor and master to my late dear friend Balladeer Katya, I hold a great deal of respect for you Aeronwy. I sincerely regret not making more of an effort to speak with you at length.

It is past time we had a conversation, and I will endeavor to make myself available to you.

Faith and I were close friends, but there is no doubt we had differing ideas on certain matters for she grew up in Baz'eel, and I have woken up here a mere five months ago, so I welcome all manner of discussion be it political or personal.

If there is one thing you may trust about me, it is that I understand how little I know, so I welcome any and all advice in being a public servant of our home. I admit my rise to the seat feels a bit daunting, and the circumstances of it terrible, but nonetheless our hands hold what is poured, and I will make the best of it however I can.

I shall look forward to our meeting.

Regards,

Legate Garen Linwood
