Legate,

I am surprised to see you have returned, which only explains to me your naivety during your term as legate. I had thought you might have worked it all out by now, but it seems I will have to spell it out for you.

Do you truly believe Faith or Lujayn were prepared to hand over governorship of Arslan to a group of mercenaries who are part of the Cinquefoil Rose, a party to our accords that keep a delicate balance of power that is necessary for our continued prosperity? Vellyn has played you for a fool and retired without a care in the world.

The Cinquefoil Rose has played you, distracting you with these false accusations against me, turning you against the one person who would have counselled you and warned you against the plots at play, as I have served your predecessors.

Instead you've decided to cave to every whim, believed every little manipulation and you now find yourself alone, with a huge responsibility. People will keep taking and you will keep giving, and when people look back at your term as Legate they will say, Garen who?

You insult Faith's name through your actions, you betray the league you are meant to champion, you've used your position poorly and you do not understand the harm you do. I have no intention of forgiving your actions and consider my harsh words as a favour not an insult. Sometimes the truth is hard to hear.

You are going to drive the league into the ground if you continue. I made you an offer when you first took up your duties as Legate, because I had concerns then which I made clear at the time. Through your failures of duty, you've allowed a smuggler and criminal into the Pyramid and you are too weak to keep him in check, he will walk all over you as so many others have.

I make you this offer once more, step aside and allow me the lead the league forward, sacrifice your pride and go back to the deep-runners where you might actually enjoy life. It is the only thing you have left to offer that might one day have us look back fondly on your brief tenure.

Accept this offer or understand the consequences of your failure to act, but do not ever tell yourself you never had a choice.
