Shadows still hate Darkness

Summoned Shadows still attack people who cast Darkness upon them.

A Mystery Clock

They didn't last time I have tried, but if this is still true, I dread this... and support granny's motion. :cry:

It's not so easy to fix this.

If players would like to test this in more detail at some point and figure out under which circumstances the shadows respond to darkness as an attack that would be helpful.

I would be more than willing to help testing!

So far, most the AOE issue usually happens in the following situation: you got a group fighting monsters and in the middle of the fight you start summoning while an AOE takes place. So far, I've figured out the following:

[LIST=1]
  • It doesn't matter if the shadows/summons are summoned before or after the AOE hitting the ground, if they meet the AOE, they'll most probably start targeting whoever brought it down.
  • It might (I'm not sure) be related to the fact that all summons stop whatever they were doing when a new summon comes out, so they change their behavior based on that.
  • Also, I have noticed that once you have a summon targeting someone and they attack this someone, they'll keep attacking and it'll be close to impossible to stop them, no matter which techniques you use.
  • The same goes for animals under Animal Empathy. If they were attacked by someone (no matter if neutral or hostile), they'll keep attacking that someone.
  • AOEs brought by traps will mess with their pathfinding/ AI too and not only summons, but also monsters... who try to walk back or to pursue someone else that doesn't exist.

Yeah, this definitely happens. I can say what happened from my side-- Granny was summoning boatloads of weak shadows near the final room of Here There Be Spiders, I threw down darkness as we fought a difficult group of enemies, then her shadows began to attack me and would not stop. This was fine as they wound up not even being able to hit me, so I ignored them, but still it could be pretty disastrous to a sorc or other low AC class.

I've seen it happen with my own Summoned Shadows and darkness as well. Perhaps making the Shadows immune to Darkness will fix this behavior? I am not sure.

I don't believe it is the shadows only as I've had it happen on other themes. Something changed around the end of EFUM that caused this to happen with summons (their AI seems to be less intelligent than it was prior). I thought I even posted on it but I cannot find anything.

granny

It is not a shadow only issue, as I have posted in other threads on the past. Maybe the solution won't be in solving this particular summon theme as all summons/ monsters answer to the same AI regarding all kinds of Area of Effect, not only darkness.
