When making a cleric, do you look at that deity's relationships, and make a note of who the deity considers and ally and vice versa?

BrittanyPanthas

Always.

Banites should not associate with Cyricists, is a prime example of how one could make a grievous mistake with their character if they didn't check the allies and opponents of their deity on a celestial level.

TheImpossibleDream

I do yes. It is very important to take note of such things!

Velve

Of course, any priest would have a basic knowledge of who their church works with, and/or hates, even if the cleric themselves is of slightly different view.

GravenKiss

I think this shouldn't be a question. It should be an advice.

Thomas_Not_very_wise

Gravenkiss, I want to see your ass IG ASAP

This was the polite and friendly way to give the advise. <_<

Talir

I do take note of some of the allies but the most important are the enemies. Other than that, I find that allying with other clerics may lead to some interesting interactions and groups. Of course, my deity is best.

Listen in Silence

No, it's more fun to try to befriend the Banites on my Ilmateri. This way, I can see if they are idiots who don't check the list of allies and enemies and send them tell declaring them morons and hating them forever and ever and ever for being such noobs.

Also, the first word of the previous paragraph was a lie.

Raposa_Fox

Yes.

Have you ever played a Cyricist? Wow, you'd be good at that!

Listen in Silence

The cake is a lie.

This thread was a triumph.

Humoresque

Yes, it's a staple and slightly an advantage to creating conflict in roleplay.

Huge success

All the information you need can be found in these sexy places:

http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=38
http://www.nj-pbem.com/data/Gods/Gods.htm
http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Deities

And there are plenty more sites.

Reading about your race before you make it is also a very good idea, as the stereotypes (chaotic evil Halfling ranger/rogue anybody?) can often be entirely wrong for the canon lore, or simply way too overdone to the point of obscuring what the race is supposed to be in the campaign setting.

Information about races can easily be found here:

http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41
http://www.nj-pbem.com/data/Races/Races.htm - For Northerner PCs.

And while many of us honestly just do NOT want to fork over money for stuff like sourcebooks (I'm as tight as a cat's arse when it comes to money, sirrahs), much of the information has been made open through the wonders of the internet. (No, I don't mean downloading them illegally; I mean the information being taken and presented differently, as it is on the forums here).

Reading about what you're making before you do it can only make your experience better, and it isn't as tedious and time-consuming as people seem to think.
Often, it's very easy to come up with ideas for storylines to pursue, or even entire characters, by looking over the canon information.
