Mage School Prelude

2 - I'm using this forum rather than the intro/group management one because I am [DM]Howland and can violate forum moderation guidelines with impunity.

3 - This thread will be used to coordinate a prelude starting time (catching everyone will be impossible; but it's OK - some people will just miss it, they can still play and get started on their own).

4 - Once approved by a DM, you can also post some general info here about your character if you want... as all of your PCs know each other a little bit already.

5 - I will again urge players to come up with something creative both in characterization and style of play (unconventional Wizards who utilize unusual and perhaps not perfectly optimized methods)

General Information
Name: Talthorn Cynnaralt
School of Choice: Evocation

Those at the Mage school would know Talthorn as an aggressive and moody teenager whom has a tendancy to solve -EVERY- situation with fireballs followed by more fireballs. He has been known to apply the Combust spell upon raw meat in attempts to cook, the result is black, smelly and is commonly used to poison rats.

Aggressive, moody, sometimes witty(he thinks), typical teenager!

General Information
Name: Landon Blau
School of Choice: Abjuration
 
Blau is a very strange young man. He always makes sure to carry his spellbook and bits of arcane tools with him at every moment. He leans to muted and calm colors he avoided the flashier spells. Easily picked on by other he was always considered meek, refusing to answer with arcane for problems. Neverthless he makes a point to stress that he is indeed a wizard and a shaper of the Arcane, and enjoys a bit of dry humor.

Name: Preston Aldrick
Race: Human, Moonsea Region

General Information
Preston is well known to be rather feeble, weak and sickly. When he was given to the school as a boy he came wearing fine cloth and silks but since has grown out of his expensive clothing and has come to wear the cheapest of outfits, spending his coin primarily on medical tomes and tools. He keeps to his chambers.

General Information:
An intensely 'uptight' individual, Alven sees the need to schedule everything and live his life by the letter of the law. Regarded widely as a snitch, he is disliked by the school at large. His interests lie in the nature of the automaton, and absolute planar laws. He is drawn to contracts and agreements, and has been known to never break a deal once it is forged. He is on every committee that involves rules and structure of the academy, and works tirelessly to make them even more heinously complex (some say to reward those who take the time to read the rulebook).

Character Name: Jossan Wilksbre
Race: Human Waterdhavian
School of Choice: Transmutation

General Information
The fourth son of a middle-class merchant family who was sent off almost as an after-thought to learn magic at the academy. A shoddy wizard in training by most standards, he never ceases to annoy his master with ineptitude. As a way of compensation for his condition, he has taken to physical conditioning by both mundane and magical means, and focuses almost exclusively in the magical means of making himself larger and stronger. He is known as a haughty, loud-mouthed bully to his classmates, never failing to remind those around him of his (perceived) superiority, both magically and physically.

General Information
Hailing from regions unknown this man has many delusions of grandeur. An eccentric man obsessed with time and the power it holds he believes divination holds the key to unlocking all the secrets the world has to offer. A devout follower of Savras he offers the insight of foreseeing the future to all who are willing to listen, asking only their obedience and compliance in return.

School: Bloodborn

A young bloodborn caster, Malaken was one of the few bloodborn casters who allowed himself entry into the school. Through charm and manipulation he convinced the school to allow him inside, telling them that his blood was linked to an ancient dragon, who's hoard was filled with relics from the ancient Netherese.

School: Illusion
Background: There are those who are born in the wrong place at the wrong time, during droughts or wars. In this case this unfortunate gnome was born to the wrong species, or so he believes. Jarod is convinced he is not meant to be a gnome, though he hasn't decided what he was meant to be yet. To correct this wrong Jarod turned to magic but found himself lacking in any school of magic that would physically change him, and so he has set about to create the perfect illusion spell, a spell that completely disguises himself so that he never has to see his disgusting gnomish self again.

School: Unknown

A calm, serious young man, reclusive and often distracted. He seems far more obsessed with his own unorthodox machinations than with any of the lessons or lecturers and although not top of his class, he is clearly a competent wizard. Those paying attention to his odd behaviour will notice he spends a great amount of time in the laboratories and botanical gardens or among obscure and seemingly useless tomes.

Name: Tancy Zephenia
School: Golemancy

A young, attractive and confident wizard with a passion for the mechanical and the animated. He is a highly religious Mystran and when not working on his studies can be found at church or debating with his fellow wizards. Though he gets on well with most, it is clear he has no friends and no social life, and it is whispered behind his back that he thinks of nothing but his studies.

Name: Zarin Szar
Race: Human, from somewhere east of the Sea of Fallen Stars
School: Enchantment

Zarin is a moderate theoritician at best, and seems far more concerned with the practical application of the Weave instead. He spends much of his time outside of the Academy, and has been spotted in whorehouses and bars with the seedier elements of society. Rumours circulate among the other Academics that Zarin has tortured helpless animals in the past; however, no one has ever confirmed this officially. And as the ones who have seen him cast his Enchantment spells on others know, you can't but feel a little bit violated from the look Zarin has in his eyes.

The prelude will occur on Wednesday August 8 15h (3:00 PM) GMT. Please double check what time you are in relation to true GMT, bearing in mind daylight savings time, etc.

It's fine if you're in the group but can't make the prelude, just see either myself or ShadowCharlatan to get started with some special gear and begin when you're ready. The prelude quest itself won't be anything special, so don't stress if you won't be there. The good stuff comes later.
