Gathering Quest Gear

Something I've noticed more of lately is people selling the gear/rewards from the nature oriented gathering quests (or equivalents) to the general populace.

Without pointing any fingers, I myself have always been under the impression that this is a bad thing to do. These rewards and this equipment is tailored specifically to assist nature concepts (or others in similar situations) who are otherwise excluded from certain quests, allies and other conventional ways that would help supply a "normal" city dwelling character.

Not trying to tell anyone how to play their character on a case to case basis, but it may serve to think twice about who you're spreading this sort of gear to. In a way you could compare it to Ordermen selling their specific faction issued gear to others outside of their ranks.

Please discuss if you have thoughts about this, or if a DM would like to chime in with their views that'd also be most welcome.

It does get pretty silly when even anti-nature savage hating druid burning PCs turn in to that gatherer to get the gear. It happens all too often too, though not usually that specific extreme example.

This is one of the issues I've always had with the nature "hideout," so to speak, being a hop skip and jump away from Mistlocke. I understand that there is not necessarily a faction or association that is an all encompassing "team nature' group, but the Scars Cave is the closest thing to this that nature-baesd PC's have, and its closeness to Mistlocke has made the few benefits it gives wilderness characters readily available to all other concepts as well.

It would be nice to see team nature's hub begin to move away from the Scars Cave, especially with the Mist beginning to fail and the Forgotten Forest becoming just as dangerous as the rest of the withered lands. This would certainly discourage exploiting the nearness and availability of the unique gathering quest loot that can be found here. Additionally, forcing PC's to have their spawn point set to the cave in order to use the quest giver might help. Perhaps this should apply to even Kanntu, though that would require that Chouka be given the same capabilities so that the gazers are not punished for the change.

idk, ever since the Unyielding Pass fell, the nearness that team nature has had to "civilized" PC's has always been disconcerting, and this is one of the many aspects of such that build upon that discomfort.

Most of the equipment given out by this npc is wildling class specific loot anyway so not sure what the issue is. However they could just make it like the old system where you have to have you spawn point set in the cave for an extended period, if people start abusing it then DMs will likely notice.

DMs have said in the past that you should only be acquiring this gear and using it if you're playing a non-civilization dwelling character.  Using it as a villager or a non-civilized character selling them to make gold  is unacceptable and should be retire worthy if doing repeatedly.  Or maybe there should be some sort of in-game reward for bringing people who do these things to justice.  (though I think trading them in order to push plots, applying common sense in doing so is acceptable)

It's already like that, and that isn't the point of the post. However, if things circulate then so be it. Nothing here is that special to worry about.

Yes, and although i have a pc selling a piece from that gathering quest now, it was obtained in an unusual way, which I think is more common than townies grinding for that gear.  Sometimes you find a corpse pc bag, sometimes you get it traded to you, or sold. Wildings don't always just keep it to themselves.

There has always been an issue with Wildlings gathering and redeeming for this stuff, and then city merchants running out to -where-ever- to grab it from the wildling charity bags and selling it.

After another read over this thread, it sounds as though some IC action should be taken.

I'm not really sure what this is about, but the laws of supply and demand do tend to hold true. Fighting the market is usually futile. Trade regulations, blockades and tariffs could be a cool thing in-game, but it's just confusing as a server policy. If an item is in demand, it will find a market.
