Wand of Ward Area won't work

The spell icon is blank, and the spell won't trigger. Mayhaps it has been disabled? Should I trash the wand? Thanks!

Do you remember where the Wand can be found?

It is in the standard loot table (if such a thing exists? Any item dropped by enemies after defeating basic enemies, bandits, goblins, lizardfolk, kobolds etc).
