Dear Aethelwine Silver,

First of all, I apologize for using your full name rather then your well-earned title, but I find that it is simply more pleasant to write in familiar tone rather then a dull formal one. Anyways, I have read pretty much all of your books and while I enjoyed them, I do not think they can substitute for in-person conversation. Thus, whenever you have the time, I would deeply appreciate a conversation with you.

Sincerely,
An eager novice

[A scroll is delivered by apprentice, marked for: The eager novice who writes with delightfully purple ink.]

Dear Eager Novice,

I cannot help but begin my own letter with commentary upon your decision to write to me by name, which was quite beautifully audacious given that you suggest it sets a more pleasant and familiar tone, yet at the same time you deny me your own name thus reversing your intent - is that not amusing? We call that contradiction of intent an example of cognitive dissonance, a tiny little fallacy - subconsciously or consciously - derived from within our own minds that causes a rift between reality and our perspective or understanding of it. I find that to be a truly delightful revelation to share with you if you are, as you say, an eager novice!

But here's the rub of it all: this is the very thing we who are Initiated into the Secrets of the Art have the power to undo by making reality bend to our will even if a fallacy is our foundation and that, my dear eager novice, is an extremely dangerous thing. I'm so glad you wrote to me, giving me the opportunity to present to you an example of my own work in action.

I myself have undergone recent epiphany exploring my own cognitive dissonance, so I must state that I do not intend to criticise you. Rather, this is a warning to us all, in a Realm where the wizard has a reputation of going mad, that we must reflect, meditate and ever seek that which rests upon a pedestal beyond us: wisdom. For it is our salvation and in extending ourselves towards it we shall realise the Ultimate Truth.

Don't write to me your name, come find me and introduce yourself to me in person. I look forward to our meeting.

Under the auspices of the King,

Dear Aethelwine Silver,

It would seem we are both having terrible luck in bumping into each other, thus in order to help our meeting along, I shall give my name. I must once again apologize for not doing such in the first place, but I am afraid that if my messages are intercepted, I may lose some chances to learn about certain groups. However, it would be a great pity if we never did speak, so I will take that chance.

Sincerely,
Diviner Elia Rytte

Dear Aethelwine Silver,

Hello again my dear writing pal. I must ask, but have you ever taught another? If so, and I apologize for my arrogance, but could you answer me a question? If you wish not to, please do not read further; but if donít mind, it is written below.

My question is:
What is teaching to you, and why do you do it?

Sincerely,
Diviner Elia Rytte

Dear Elia Rytte,

Pleasant tidings unto thee as well, my fellow friend in letters. I have indeed taught others, and in my time have sought to teach all the magi and indeed all who Awaken in this Realm through my works.

You pose unto me yet another good question, one which I will have trouble answering you to my own satisfaction but I will try:

For me, learning is life and through my time here in this City of Rings as an Awoken bereft of answers, I have come to make my dedication to the ultimate Truth for our presence here is a myriad mystery and I cannot just accept the facade others embrace. I am not a native of this place, who themselves seem to live in great and uncaring ignorance. I am certain of very little and my life is a constant struggle to understand how and why I have come to be here - but who is my teacher, who teaches me, Elia the now named?

The answer to that question I give you in return is a matter of Faith. I believe in the Truth, my Truth others may give the name of God and yet others might just declare that it is an unknowable and unobtainable thing, that we mere mortals may only ever glimpse upon one of its faces. They are wrong, the glory of the Truth is immeasurable yes, but with keen senses we may see it in all things. The Truth is Everything. It is writ upon each face, it is inscribed upon the stone, it exists in the shapes about us, it swirls in maelstroms of planar chaos and it is a state of indescribable certainty: the ultimate ordering of all things. But me, as a teacher? I am merely an hierophant of the Truth and I have much to learn. Every face teaches me something new, something I with my own limitations may not have seen.

To teach is thus to learn.

And so, I teach you, what it means to be the teacher. I wonder what it is you have learned from your lesson - for the inevitable hour of our meeting, keep it in mind.

Dear Aethelwine Silver,

Your given answer was not one I expected, but do not think that I am disappointed, rather, it is quite the opposite. You see, despite having read your works and letters, it is an unavoidable fact that I do not know you personally, so I was worried you may give me a more mundane answer. And as usual, I must apologize; I must sound rather bratty or condescending, but I simply could not accept a teacher who does not have a good reason for teaching.

Sincerely,
Diviner Elia Rytte
