Paid Necromancy Tokens

For a similar price as buying the craft wand feat, it'd be cool if perhaps anyone of a spellcasting class- eg bards, wizards, etc- could buy a single 1/day animate dead token from the bonecollectors. To allow a broader arrangement of necromancy concepts, and enable a wider variety of necromancers. This'd leave them still inferior to more dedicated necromancer concepts, but also enable more morally questionable characters to dabble in the occasional animation.

Astegard

There are already such tokens being sold at the bone-collectors for a 100 groat each. 1 time use.
They should be enough to tie you over until you find one of the 1/day items. (there are quite a few)

The token would not be very useful.

If the service unlocked the animation player tool used by certain sorcerer perks, THAT would be useful.

But it then leads into the issue that classes without caster levels can't maintain undead minions. So any such purchased perk would need to grant non-casters a small summoning pool...

Might be worth looking into this

But...

Why would we even want non-spellcasters to be animating the dead with such a low barrier of entry? Animating the dead is spellcasting. If this happened it would most certainly be OUB spellcasting classes.

Definitely. Primarily, I imagined this would be targeted towards Bards and Wizards, two groups who /feel/ like they should be able to be more necromance-y.

Jello!

What might be interesting is implementing the favor system to allow players to gain various tiers of undead summoning tokens and items. Example for instance:

QuoteTo gain favor one must turn in bodies found/dug up.
Kobold and goblin bodies: 10 points
Greater monstrous bodies (ogres, trolls, ect): 50 points

Items:
500 points - Weak bone totem: 1/day animate
1,000 points - Bone totem :  2/day animate
3,000 points - Flawless bone totem: 3/day animate

2,500 points -Flesh sculptor's knife: OUB bard, OUB: evil, -2 damage bonus, +1 negative energy, spellcraft + 2

Sem

Offering an item to purchase from bonecollectors that provides animate /day on it  OUB spellcasters would be a fine if IMO unnecessary change.

BUT I absolutely do not agree that anyone should be able to purchase the sorcerer perks for animation.

Something like that should be a reward for exceptional necromancer PCs, if ever at all given to non-sorcerers.

Edit: I also do not think it would be a good idea to implement a favor system for bone collectors, as getting bodies is unreliable at best and  seemingly impossible at worst.
