A - A Tournament within the Spinning Groat:

A Gladiator tournament of sorts was held by Domina Lucretia on behalf of the spinning groat. Sunpurse Retainer Demetri Art, and Orza retainer Edwina Galloway battle or a chance at the prize, with Retainer Art proving the victor.

Orza Retainer Jouvander Don Vindascas, son of Capo, then battles Sunpurse Retainer Demetri Art. Stoneflesh, magical flame shields, raving mad ghostly women with axes, and a giant ooze fill the arena during their bout. An epic chase ensues, Demetri pushing Jouvander upon his heel, knocking him upon the ground he nearly grasps victory quickly, but Jouvander proves resilient, and so both replenish their magics and dance for what must have been at least ten minutes. Demetri eventually sends Jouvander into a laughing fit, and stabs deep past his hardened stone skin to claim the prize.

B  - Beset by the Copper Torc:

“...I've heard a rumor they may want into the peerage as a formal house.” 'A whole ring' set upon inviting the 99th, when asked if they might seek some mutual understanding: “They are Battered by pain and anguish to abide such reason. But they have come to the Ward to broker arrangement.”

At the end of the gladiator event hosted by  Domina Lucretia on behalf of the spinning groat, a series of horns were sound and some attack was made upon the Ticker of the 99th ring. They burrowed and let loose a number of horrible insect like beasts upon an establishment therein, Webbers as it is called.

A retelling:

“Ran here, the door was locked, smoke billowing out and the whole place was on fire. Lady with that big mace broke the door, and we stormed in. Dealt with the Copper Torcs there, Kanna put out the fires with her water elementals. Last was a giant hole left from their burrowing, and one of their massive bugs pooed out, covering the hole and assaulted us. We slew it. That's about it.”

Further upon the Copper Torcs:

“They are... Dangerous... fury-ridden. They typically fight with larger weapons... and aren't afraid to chug a few vials. Worse, they bring truly-monstrous insects to the battle. Massive... dangerous... and above all, numerous. Not to be taken lightly.”

Quote from: ”City Sending”
Now that we know they can burrow through Rings, can we hire them to get to Ring 1 so we can all wish to be RICH?

Quote from: ”City Sending by Barney Bolger of the Boundary Men”
Barney Bolger of the Boundary Men speaking- the dogs set fire to Webber`s, which just goes to show that their story ain`t nothing more than that. They`re after our riches, our goods, our lives- because we /are/ blessed, by Phanax Himself! We deserve all we got, and we fended them off! Well done all!

Quote from: ”City Sending by Katarina”
“Ve give zhese bug-lovers and zheir monstrous concubines a good lesson today, but zhey vill likely be back still. If you love zhe Square, if you vant to see it safe and flourish, for ALL it`s people, join zhe TICKERTOWN PATRIOTS today. Ve vill -always- be zhere to protect zhe people of zhe square -big and small. Zhis vas Katarina.”
Quote from: ”City Sending”
“I... I... what has been done, today, I am having trouble processing. So many dead... piked! To pike someone alive... what monsters could... “

Quote from: ”City Sending by Copper Torc Huskarl”
Look at you... Drunk. Broken. Crying- and we`ve barely gotten started. And here we thought you`d be the toughest of the rings we`ve come to. Look at all you have... your vast riches- and look at what you`ve done with it. Enabled Necromancers, Planar Monsters, Starvation... This is mercy. Kneel down, and have this over with.

C  - Council Meeting upon the Matter of the Copper Torcs:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Baldred Blackram”
The Council of Peers has concluded its sitting, and I am now obliged to announce the result of its deliberation: The Council has voted against joining the war on the Copper Torcs.

In addition, and for his forswearance of The Peerage, for breaking ranks with The Five Great Houses and publicly decrying our decision to remain neutral, The Council of Peers has voted to censure Muggbert Skudge.

Muggbert Skudge will henceforth be barred from seeking, pursuing or attaining Knighthood until otherwise determined by a majority vote of the Council of Peers. That is all.

D  - Dice games at the Spinning Groat:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Beauxregard Winespill”
Ladies and Gentleman some spectacular news I am thrilled to bring forth! While the Open Sore opens its spider-infested cobweb strewn mockery of a theater take a pause from tending your spiderbites to listen well! In two rises of the Sun shall the Second Casino Royale of Arek Vlasi take place, shortly after midday!

Not one! Oh heavens no that would be boring, not Two! Oh my word how bland and repetitve that would be. Three or more tables of gaming and the entire main floor of the Spinning Groat Casino transformed into a wonderland of dice-tossing extravaganza!

A showcase of the finest game Ring Ninety Nine has to offer! Take a reprieve from the woes of the impending immolation and the rote practice of assembling on a shit-caked street with a shanty over your head to assemble your mercenary contracts. Spend an eve of gallantry and whimsy amongst The Spinning Groat Casino!
For the Gentleman a feast of the eyes as the day`s theme shall be the Court of the Fae, take what time had to fetch your stitchings and secure your finest attire ladies! Enchant the mind and sway the heart with your gowns and creativity for to the best-dressed madam a grand prize offered!

For the Winner of the Contest shall be secured an all-expenses paid evening at the Spinning Groat Casino with the famed Blurred Knight himself - Wayne! The Ironman of the Spinning Groat Arena who endured not one, not two, not three, but -four- fights in a row before being bested. My word the Stamina!

Two days to prepare, ladies! Two days to amass your groats, gentlemen, and an afternoon you shall never forget promised! Top that, Barnabus you potato-faced cretin! Ahaha! I spit upon your Open Sore.

Source pamphlet.

Dwayne would later contest the claim of his involvement.

E  - Eager Dwayne the Blurred Duelist Discusses the 99th:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Dwayne E. Kaleb”
[The muffled voice of a young man spoke.] Hello, City of Rings. This is Dwayne the Blurred Duelist speaking. Its been a while so Id like to tell you all about what Ive been up to. Listen closely because theres a lot to go over. Ive fought a bunch of duels and even managed to win most of them. In the Spinning Groat arena I fought against Bert of Glitt and lost. -

He hits pretty hard with his hammer so watch out for that. I fought against Alciede of the Prospectors in a fist fight and lost. On the Peerage Bridge I fought Zoë K- Thaumaturge Zoë though this was just another friendly duel. We werent fighting over some grudge like the bridge is usually for and no one died. Anyway she put me on my back and gave me a burning sensation. -

It was pretty unpleasant and I dont recommend making her mad or anything. But I fought another duel upon the Peerage bridge and this one -was- to resolve a grudge. Some of you might have heard the whispers already. The Herald of Constant Storms and retainer of House Glitt, Gert- [A slight pause and a confused whisper aside, perhaps to the Dookeeper?] Bert and Gert? -`
[The muffled voice continued.] Uh. Anyway- he spoke poorly chosen words of me and my beloved Alina so naturally I challenged him right on the spot despite the fact that it was raining. Despite his powerful magic, I bested him and he recanted his poorly chosen words and apologized. So he upheld his own honor and that of his House so I bear him no ill will -

I also fought against Jouvander of House Orza in the Spinning Groat Arena. This was a bit of a grudge match because he had interrupted another one of my duels. After an intense match I bested him and I realize I cannot fault him for his actions, the man just wanted a good scrap. So I bear him no ill will and House Orza is fortunate to have such an able warrior in their ranks.

I fought against Emilian Mircea and bested him in the Spinning Groat arena. I haven`t seen much of him but I can tell he has a lot of good potential as a warrior. I also fought against Niven of Velstra and defeated her. She almost had me though! She played upon my deep seated fear of big chests with her magic which was really strange and confusing.

Moving onto the Invicte Tournament of my good friend Domina Lucretia... For those of you who wished to attend but were unable, I fought through a gauntlet of four consecutive matches until I was bested by the Invicte Champion Grilm the Seadog. I fought and defeated Jason the Intrepid, a tracker and... adventurer? I do not really know him that well.

I fought and defeated Hjalmar of the Jotun Blood who let me tell you is an extremely fierce warrior. Ive fought alongside him since our match and I`m looking forward to our rematch in the next tournament. I also fought against Muggbert Skudge in the featured match of the tournament. I challenged him because he said he was a really great duelist and although I defeated him -
his words are true. He really is a great duelist and had his prowess not exhausted me as it did I might have walked away the champion.

Thats all for my recent matches. Hey, excuse me? Im talking here. Please wait until Im done, thanks. Anyway- While I didnt claim the title of Invicte, I think its fair to say that my arduous gauntlet inspired the crowd and I was definitely their favourite

So I`d like to give special thanks to Adam Svarga of House Sunpurse and Alciede of the Prospectors for donating potions before my final match and to the Lieutenant for some donations after the tournament. Thanks!

With all that said and done, I hope that my efforts in becoming the Citys greatest duelist thus far have garnered the attention of [A slight pause.] my... my be-beloved Alina of the Clockstruck C-cafe..! All that I d-do is to win her heart! N-now war is on our doorstep and- and I hope y-you will go somewhere safe! I will st-stay and defend our home from these invaders!

[A slight pause before the muffled voice spoke again, now more collected once again.] Id like to offer thanks to my good friends here in Ring 99. Onion the Halfling and Mandy the Mendicant are both true friends who gave me blurring vials though none as true as my truest friend Meixiu who has given me three. I hope you, good folk of the City, have good friends such as -

these in your lives. Now for a more serious matter at hand. I havent seen my friend Kanna Vauntz around for some time and I'm getting a little worried. You'll recognize her as a merchant-aspirant and potion brewer here in Ticker Square. If you know anything of her whereabouts then I`d like to hear about it. Also, Wakefield do you still find missing persons or something?

Maybe you could find her. Praise Phanax. Anyway- While I`m sure many around the City have heard about me, the dwarf Stoneforge apparently hasn`t so if you have any stories of me, my adventures and my victories in the arena then you should tell him all about it. I could do it myself but that would come across as really weird or something so maybe not.

I`d also like to spread the word about my -friend- Istadae who is an extremely talented performer here in Ring 99. If you`re looking for any sort of talent then you should consider giving her work. You won`t regret it. Definitely endorsed by Dwayne the Blurred Duelist if that counts for something.

Another friend of mine Id like to spread the word about is my good friend Domina Lucretia who manages the Spinning Groat arena. She held a pretty successful tournament as you might have heard and there`s surely more to come. If you want to see good fights in the arena or maybe fight them yourself then you should seek her out. She also sells some pretty great jewelry

so you should go and buy some. Now for another serious matter, that whole mess with the Needle is pretty fresh in our memories and I myself was among those who fought to defend Ticker Square against the creatures swarming out of seams but I`m pretty sure the Prospectors were doing their best to contain the situation as well.

They`re good people just trying to make a living like the rest of us so don`t be too hard on them.

On that note we`re all trying to make a living in Ticker Square and it needs to be defended against those who seek to take our prosperity away from us. Join the Tickertown Patriots today and help defend our home! Anyway I think I`ve run out of things to talk about for now so goodbye.

F  - Felling of a Majestic Beast:

What may have been a Hippogriff, a large bird, hawk, lion like creature appeared after a dispensary battle, seeking the prize for food it might gather. An ominous stance was established as the crowd attempted to tame the wondrous creature. While a man named Green-Leaf attempted to tame and calm it, a fight ensued and sent the creature into a rage.

And so did the men of the ninty-ninth hunt it for sport... and so did they kill it. Edwina Galloway of Orza landing the final blow.

G  - Great Tales of the Seven Striders:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Elsbeth Malles”
"T-the Keep stands. House Glitt honors it`s d-debts, always... even at a c-cost. My Brother Chester, who fought and bled beside me... died locked in battle with one of the many tyrants of the R-realm."

"I s-shall miss him dearly. He served my Lord, and his Father, valiantly, and died with honor to see the realm just the slightest bit more peaceful. Goodbye, my beloved brother. The Glitt Banner flies now at the Grey Keep. Know that we have bled and died to defend it and the good people therein."

Quote from: ”City Sending by Arnbjorn Blackpaw”
Thank you to all those who lent their aid to the defense of the keep. To those that fell your names shall be carved upon the walls inside the keep for those passing through to know of your sacrifice defending this keep

Among the fallen was my fellow Strider and the closest thing left i considered family. Mitsu Akechi, the fourth and then first Strider. Never have i met a more greasy, tight fisted merchant that would shake you down for all your groat but still welcome you with open arms

Despite her falling in battle the keep now know as Akechi keep will be a haven for ring runners heading from and back inring and outring like she wanted it to be. We will welcome you with open arms and warms cots to rest your bones from traveling long and far

Here Strode Seven Striders. Fleeing Webber`s Spiders. From cruel Peerage Riders, And bitter Pond Outsiders. Beyond the maps where monsters roam. A different pathway can be shown. Among the trees and in the loam. Where our free folk find their home. For here strode Seven Striders[/li][/list]

H – Harad the Sealed

Quote from: ”City Sending by Distraught City Delver”
[A hard swallow; a feeble voice.] I.. we.. I-I`m sorry everyone. Me and the boys, we found something, something old.. a prisoner o` sorts. Says the King locked him up... [A wracking cough.] We left him alone, but ought to go see for yourselves.

He - it? - is all the way down where them rats hoard all them prizes and other prisoners and force fights. [There's another cough and an almost audible shudder to the speaker's shoulders.] Be careful.

--Rumors soon spread among the many scum pickers, rat hunters and even amateur ringrunners; strange sightings of runed portals appearing, scattered throughout the depths of the city from the Rings 99 to 97,, cracking the earth with their appearance.--

--Rumors continue regarding these seals of Harad; some claim that the Copper Torc have a hand in them, others claim their appearance was brought on by the insidious workings of the Recondite. Regardless, news hits the city's streets that four seals remain.--

Ten Seals, eight are broken*. Portals appeared allowing access to these prisoners and guardians sealed away by the king.

*Amendment: The Eighth Seal was broken, four seals were broken at this time.

I - Issue with Glitt members assisting Tickersquare:

The Copper Torc attacked Tickersquare in force, and though they were repelled, the forces of the vanguard managed to destroy the Guildhall and sway the populous into a panic.

Many things came to ahead, including Valentina Webber's move to the Peerage. However, a number of Glitt Retainers were spoken to have assisted Tickersquare in repelling the attack by the Copper Torc. This caused a tense situation based upon the decision made just recently before at the Council of Peers.

Wagers are made about what fate could await those that had done so, and so an address by the High House was given:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Sunpurse Retainer Madrick Marjolo”
It has been said and pondered and whispered that Glitt has gone against the decision of the Council of the Peerage. With bated breath the people wait to hear, to see what ominous condemnation shall be laid down upon the head of Glitt for this grave insult...

So I shall tell you, where none others will bother. I will tell you the punishment for  their crime against us all.

Laughter. A smile. Bemusement for the soul. A decision their own house voted in favor of they have gone against. If a house can not keep their own retainers in line, it does not fall on us to slap their wrists. Only shall I measure their honor and their prestige for it.

House Glitt would later relay their own Announcement on the subject.

J - “Justice” in Tickersquare:

As the residents of Tickersquare debate heavily what must be done to defend themselves from the Copper Torc, a moment of sad revelation is upon them. The Funds required for the Third Company are insufficient currently.

A - The Dire need for Groats to fund the Third Company is explained in great detail:
"Kanna Vauntz's Speech to Tickersquare"
“I have good news and I have bad news... [She glanced to the ruined buildings of Tickersquare] But before I give either... first a cheer to everyone who stood in defense of Ticker Square. [She would raise his fist] For without them, our home would've suffered far more than the loss of the Guildhall.

We won the first battle and defeated one of the enemy's armies... A victory in itself... but... as many of you know... we're still at war. And it's a war that's only just begun. I recently discovered that one of the Copper Torcs other armies is heading towards the Ninety-Ninth.

This one far, far greater in numbers than the last. Worse... there is another yet to come.. the enemy's numbers are overwhelming. Of this, we can not deny. But there is hope!

A deal was brokered recently. An army of mercenaries as far as the city of Ba'zeel. Known simply as the Third Company. They have agreed to man Ticker Square with three thousand men Strong! For a price...

This price will not be paid easily. In fact, it will demand we all pay what we can, if our home is to survive! But... if even twenty citizens with the means step forward... a mere twenty... then we will have a chance.

I am calling on the wealthiest citizenry of Ticker Square to a challenge. A challenge of five thousand Groats; of which I myself have pledged, for the payment of these mercenaries.

If we can reach out goal of One hundred thousand Groats within seven days' time... then this war will once again be in our favor for the coming battle! I know it is a steep burden... and you are right to ask why...

Why aren't the Guildmasters paying for this!? And such questions demand appropriate answers... in time. For now, this is a test of our willingness, yet again; to sacrifice what we must for our home!
As before, it is a call to action! A call to -give- so that we may yet keep what is ours... our freedoms, our homes, our families and our lives!

Groats mean NOTHING compared to the lives bound to them! So I challenge you... ask you... if not blood, then step forward! And I will accept your donations for this most dire of contracts...! That is all, thank you.”
[close]

B - And an open Letter to the citizenry of Tickersquare is left for them to ponder.

However, instead of accepting proposals offered by the Peerage, or waiting upon the hope of amassing the funds alone. The Guildmasters find reliance upon the Arbiters of the Hundred Scrolls, or at least men who claim to be them, and immediately the effects are felt.

Gallows, hangings, and intolerance for the sale of blessing not related to their Deity.

Quote from: ”City Sending by Arbiter of the Hundred Scrolls”
The Mandate of the Scrolls stands in the demesne of Ticker`s Square. Under our aegis shall you wicked and sinful be shepherded towards the lawful path. As of this day, all bartering and transaction and peddling of false blessings shall cease within this domain.

Allowances were made for the people of Tickersquare that might flee the religious oppression:

Quote from: City Sending by House Magus of Oriana Sunpurse. Former Court Wizard. Veteran Retainer, Benedict Vauss
Refugees of Ticker Square. You are at a crossroads. Now you see the error of greed, and there are those of you in need of a home. Orianas is open to you, should you find yourself ready to unburden yourself, and take up the glorious purpose offered by the Austere Bannerhouse. If you believe yourself to be cut of the same cloth as the cities most elite House, you may come to her estate and be judged”

A Ballad Found its way among the Taverns as well.

K – Kingly decrees upon the Silver Hats:

Quote from: ”City Sending by an Archive Scribe”
[Politely clears his throat...] Ah-hrm. It is writ upon the Royal Archives that the Social Fraternity known by the moniker of `The Silver Hats` does hereby owe a pecuniary levy to the sum of Ten-Hundred Groat to His Majesty`s suzerainty, the Ward of Peers, for Trespass of the Peace...

Until such time as their charge is rendered, vassals of the suzerainty are forebade from granting them hospitality, sanctuary, fair welcome or fraternal exchange. Long live the King.

The King`s Royal Archives have made receipt of the fine levied upon the social fraternity known as `The Silver Hats`, and thereby the status of outlawry is lifted from associated persons.

L  - Laws of the Arbiters of Tickersquare:
Quote from: ”City Sending by Arbiter of the Hundred Scrolls”
The Monitors declare: there is to be no transact of allegedly `divine` or `spiritual` crafts, sundries or liquors under any circumstances. The purveying of arcane goods is strictly monitored for adherence to moral regimen.

Sorcerers, wizards, hedge mages, and other such apostates are forbidden from flaunting or demonstrating their sinful capabilities within the public spaces of the Square, on pain of hanging by the neck until dead.

The Monitors declare: a bounty of common wealth shall be rendered to any faithful adherent that comes forward and identifies the Apostates responsible for the assault on Ticker`s Square. They shall be hanged by the neck until death for the Violation conducted.

The Monitors declare: the Apostate known as Lykaon Konphas is hereby put under indictment. Faithful adherents who deliver this apostate unto the safeguard of the Arbiters shall receive a relic of power in recompense for their pious deed. The Rite of Shacklage awaits the heretic.

Further - faithful adherents who bring forth to the safeguard of the Arbiters any member of this so-named `Blacktongue Cabal` shall receive a reward in common wealth apropos to the dangers suffered in pursuit of the indictment

M  – Mages of Ring Ninety-Seven:
Quote from: ”City Sending by Lykaon Konphas VII”
The conjuring of these seams is the work of myself, your Royal Court Wizard, Lykaon Konphas VII. With the aid of the Blacktongue Cabal, who stand with me as they rightly should in all matters arcane. The Wizards of the Rings will not kneel and scrape at Arbiter`s boots.

You who would resist, these burning seams are a beacon to you; Seek me out, you mages. Alchemists, Cabalists, Wizards and otherwise.. seek the Seer Lykaon. Divided, we are prey. United, we can overcome these brass vultures.

N  – Notice given to Captain Rorkhan Meatlyff:
Quote from: ”City Sending by The Royal Inquisitor”
The Royal Inquisitor speaks. Let it be known that the honourless brute known as Captain Rorkhan Meatklyff is now considered a traitor to the King for his slander of Dorvant`s descendants. Any who wish favour and stature with the Inquisition should bring this man to me at once.

With or without the aid of the King`s subjects, I shall endeavour to bring this man to heel and halt his incessant words over the Doorkeepers that have berated our ears day and night. King`s auspices to you, good people of the city.

This indictment is later revoked.

O - Opportunities from the Royal Inquisitior:
Quote from: ”City Sending by Royal Inquisitor Imir”
City of Rings, hear the King`s justice. The Groundskeeper of the Ponds, Mildewa, has been thusly branded by the Royal Inquisition. To avoid further bloodshed, Groundskeeper Mildewa has been instated as the hand of my Inquisition in the Ponds.

Let no Kingsman nor I hunt upon her grounds in the Pond. She shall prove herself loyal to the King and bring these traitors to me first hand to be judged and cured of their foul curse. History has been made. The pursuit of peace and prosperity shall come at hand. The King wills it.

Quote from: ”City Sending by Royal Inquisitor Imir”
As I entered this world an orphan, I understand the need and the yearning for a father- a family, even. Master Golfaldus gave me this opportunity, raising me from a street magician barely capable of a cantrip, to the Wizard of Golfaldus I now am.

I invite any who do not have a home nor a purpose in this city to join the Order of Kingsmen. Prove yourself loyal and leal servants of the King and bring peace, order and prosperity to the Rings One Hundred to Ninety-One. You shall be fed, equipped and nurtured as scholars and warriors.

Further Notices upon such can be found among the public boards.

P – Panic in the Peerage, The Execution of Kanna Vauntz:
Quote from: ”City Sending”
Eloquently put, by our beloved Orzans. If you care to see the infamous Kanna Vauntz final moments, an execution is being held - An egregious breaking of the King`s Peace has been had, and so, the victims in this case, have captured the perpetrator and intend to enact swift and righteous justice.

For the attempt of burning down Castle Orza, and the attempted to murder of some amount of Orzans, I don`t much care to count - She`ll be burned alive. Do come see the show.

For invading the Peerage and bringing flame and fire at her side, Kanna Vauntz is burned alive. After the tense allotting of the Arbiters of the Hundred Scrolls into Ticker, Kanna sought to make sale and collect coin outside of the place most holy to herself, the market.

I have met her a number of times, she was rather determined, but perhaps too easily emotional. Perhaps flames were suiting for the rage bubbling to the surface of the situation. However, it was her calamity for turning her back upon the chance of Peerage acceptance a number of times, and then her death to attack it.

Q – Quaking in Sorrow, the Royal Inquisitor announces the Death of Edwin the Creationist:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Royal Inquisitor Imir Hvithelm”
Men and women of the Peerage- I am asking you to set aside your plunder and your adventuring for a moment of respite and grieving. I have carried my brother`s body to the ward from deep within the foul Mongrelwoods- butchered by the monstrous kin that lurk there.

Gather upon the bridge for a march. We shall carry his body to the King`s garden and lay him to rest.

A grieving period shall be called- a fortnight. Once these days are numbered, I assure you- people of the rings. That I, Royal Inquisitor of Rings 100 - 91, will bring fire and storm and blood to the woods. I will not stop until every Mongrelkin lays dead before my feet.

Mister Edwin fell against foes within the Mongrel woods. He will be dearly missed and remembered as a man of intelligence and good conversation.

R – Restless Outsider attempts murder upon those that availed to some strange tower:

[Rumor quickly spreads of a seam appearing and disappearing just as quickly, as a rotund, colorful man with a staff and a curious helm steps out...]

[Glimpses of the strange fellow are seen in fragmented visions in various parts of Ring Ninety-Nine. He seems to be murmuring to himself, as though practicing a message.]

Quote from: ”City Sending by Zembrazo the Finely Chiseled”
Hello, wonderful friends! My beautiful name is Zembrazo the Finely Chiseled, and I have come from realms far beyond your pedestrian imaginings to offer you a chance for greatness! If you have the METAL-- or is it meddle? Or midd-- it isn`t important! Just gather by that curious tower in the Commons. Please bring a pastry.

I promise that this task will be more profitable than that unmagical buffoon`s fisticuff session.

A mad Angel of sorts tried to execute a number of people and Retainers of the Peerage. The angel thought all of those around it figments of its mind, dreams.

Quote from: Mister Dumein upon it
It claimed to have been imprisoned for ten-thousand years or more, Wrought of Order, and given unto the sole purpose of identifying the /guilty/.

Orza Retainers Gervasy Igorevich, and Glittsbane Jouvander were present to slay it, alongside Retainer Niven of Velstra.

S – Sunpurse Demands the termination of the Residency of Kingsley and his House of Awakening in the Sunpurse Manor.

Quote from: ”City Sending by Sunpurse Retainer Odette”
Time is up, Kingsley. We come now, to see stewardship of the Manor returned to its rightful caretakers... And for the rest of Ninety-Nine.

If you wish to earn the Bannerhouse's favor, and perhaps some groat, then please do make your way to the bridge leading out of our Ward. We gather there to see an end to the farce that is the “House of the Awakened.” Blessings of the King 'pon you all.”

After finding the halls empty.

Kingsley... Your absence has been noted. But what you are doing is most foolish. Turn yourself in while you can. Relinquish the keys. You will be treated with mercy. Continue on this course, however, and I will have you hunted down like a rat. Either way, your time in our estate draws to a close.

House Sunpurse sends a number of retainers to the Manor to evict Kingsley. However, upon entering the Halls, and not wishing to damage the interiors, House Sunpurse leaves the empty Manor when it becomes quite apparent that the current squatters are not within.

A bounty is then claimed aloud, a thousand coins for the return of the Key and Kingsley.

A panicked reply is forthcoming...

Quote from: ”City Sending by Kingsley”
I don't have much hope for this but- eh, if you're willing to help me fight off a Sunpurse Invasion, make for the manor. You get a cut of whatever is in their pack as well as what I happen to afford.

Following afterwards, a conclusion is drawn. Retainer Demetri Art perishes, Infernalists attacked the Peerage, killing Ethine of Orza and Odette of Sunpurse.

Quote from: Mister Dumein upon the events
... I encountered the reprisal en route to the Sunpurse Manor, where it was said Demetri Art was held captive. I had hoped to negotiate for his release, so accompanied them -

But they were given to the war before them. The gates were stormed, Art was slain, and all four of the vile infernalists who fought were cut low. Another was captured near the old Arbiter's Cube, or where it used to be, later in the day.

The /spirits/ of the Sunpurse Maor, such as they are, reacted with /glee/ to the effusion of blood and the deaths of so many – they rose and drove all of us from the Manor, even as I bid them take those works elesewhere.

The four slain squatters of the Manor, were Kingsley, a strange man Daemon, A woman and some necromancer.

T - Tristan once of the Sons of Conquest becomes the King's Inquisitor:

Quote from: ”City Sending by Inquisitor Tristan”
Subjects of the sovereign. I am the King's Inquisitor. The King's justice is not blind fury but is a measured sentencing that fits the crime against his sovereign decree. We are all subjects of the King and through his will enforced we will see law return to these rings.

I will measure you by your words, baring and honourable actions. If I find you in my courthouse and lacking, I will measure you by length of rope. I will be investigating the demise of Rorkhan Meatklyff, the worshippers of the Solar will find me and explain their reasoning for this act.

V– Valiant efforts assembled upon the notion the Sibillant would return

Quote from: ”City sending by Inquisitor Tristan”
Subjects of the King, listen now to the words of the King's Inquisitor. The traitorous Torc have made bed with fell powers that oppose the sovereign of the city. The Sibiliant walk beside the Torc and may attempt to pincer Ring 99. Long Live the King.

The attack upon Tickersquare is anon. Retainers of the House Velstra, Niven, Alexandra Winespill, and Muggbert Skudge assemble upon the bridge of the Peerage, as well as Retainers of House Nephezar, Novitiate Liam Morgade, Thaumaturge Sergor Kulenov, Nori and another whose name I did not gather. Antoinette Applewine, of the Peerage also does join.

A strike force sets out, while the forces of the Peerage set to defend the NInety-Ninth from the Sibilant. Houses Velstra and Nephezar attend.  The defending forces, gather in ring one-hundred and one, while the strike force takes rafts in ring one-hundred.

Upon the defence, traps are laid, giant boulders are placed, and men make ready for conflict. The  retainers are confounded whether or not they should be here, considering the lizards might not be coming this way immediately.

After a very terrifying event of battle and bloodshed, the peerage pulls back a bit in preparation for the oncoming Sibilant horde. We await a great deal of time.  An assault besets us, to no avail, and draws the ire of the peerage.

The coming battle is a massacre, upon both sides, horrible archers aloft horses rain flaming arrows upon us. Men batter us from each side,  We have to retreat, countless fall. The Torcs then set up drawbridge, and siege weaponry. It comes to the conclusion we must retreat to Ring one-hundred.

-- Rolling into position through the Ring Gate, a handful of catapults... Behind which trundles an enormous and alarmingly large trebuchet. Nicknamed the War-Boar, its like has never been seen in the near-rings before... --

Calamity, tickersquare burns as timariots sack it. The last defence of Ring one-hundred ends.

Quote from: ”The whispery voice of Lord Euric Freward is heard as you receive a message”
Your defiance has been admirable. I commend your warrior-spirit. I shall have need of it in the days to come, sons and daughters of the Ninty-ninth Ring.

[A rustle of paper...] But now it comes to end. I hold here in my hand the contract for command of the Baz'eel Third Company. I order you to stand down, and bring your swords upon any who continue to resist the Copper Torc.

Lay down your arms, and make receipt of my generous mercy. Continue to defy me, and you shall be flensed to the marrow and mantled upon the battlements of your King's Common as a warning. SURRENDER. YOU SHALL NOT DEFY ME.

Lord Freward: “Such is the price of defiance. It is costly, when a man must be -made- to kneel. Are you proud of yourselves? [he seemed to ask sincerely] Your story has been told near two-hundred times. Rarely has this blade been lowered. Rarely has the Ring-dweller knelt of their own volition... but not that story is over. Show me who will kneel now.”

Silas Sparrowbroth: “The Guilds serve Lord Freward.”

Lord Freward: “Gather the treasure and bring it to the horde. No more killing. They have knelt.”

The Archivist steps fourth, and holds out a golden seal, and speaks: “Euric Freward. Your Rightful Peers... welcome you. And offer you Ticker Square, as your right.”

Lord Freward would peer at the golden seal, and speak: “Show me the man who has conquererd a hundred rings and I shall name him Peer. I see him not among your Ward.” He then slaps the golden seal to the cobbles.

Rumours follow:

-- With the passing of the Arbiters, and the uncertain fate of Monitor Alexei, a handful of Copper Torcs rip down the bounties posted by the scroll fanatics, uncaring and disinterested in pursuing another faction's grudges. --

-- The Third Company have returned from whence they came, departing in their shattered numbers back to Baz'eel. An arduous journey that will take them many months. --

-- Dread rumours of a Lizardfolk army prove to be false - at least, as far as conspiracies of an alliance with the Torcs are concerned. However, distressing news from the Muckboys traders who visit the Open Door tell of many tribes coming together in the Swamps of 95, their purpose unclear. --

W - Wedding between Ser Nicholas Velstra and Valentina Webber

-- Fevered rumor spreads rapidly though the peerage ward, among the socialites and the inattentive. A wedding has been announced. While the soldiers mutter of distractions, and wastes of time in a war, it becomes known... --

-- Ser Nicholas Velstra shall marry Valentina Webber, soon. The peerage buzzes, with excitement and irritation. --

X  – Strike Team Upon the Copper Torc.

I asked Erlik Lujuria, the Angel of the Arena, who joined the Strike team and survived, with the glory of the Queen's Head, the details of their venture into horrors spoken.

Quote from: Erlik Lujuria, Angel of the Arena, Upon the Dead
I have the head of the beast for the royal huntmaster, when ever I can hand it to him; the Queen.”

[Those that died:] The Dwarves Bergon Stoneforge, and Bruhklan Gearshatter. Frotygroat Godfrey Mathews, Inquisitor Tristan De Grey. Larken Blake. Captain Pebby Hillsworn of the Golden Legion. Bido.

Bido was a singer. He died. His chest cut into by three burning arrows that flew over us. Pinned him to the wall as his song died in his throat. His final uplifting lyric aiding us to survive a calvary ambush that smashed into us from behind a false wall.

[The Queen] This is the slayer of Fortygroat Godfrey. The slayer of Beremund. The Slayer of Tristan. The slayer of Loric. The slayer of Pebby. The slayer of Bruhklan. The Slayer of Bergon. Slain. By five who dared.

Quote from: The Angel of the Arena's Recounting of events, thorough
“What else would you like to know? Of the Torc elites that came thundering through their tunnels as we fought tooth and nail through a blood mire of swampy blood and insectiod birthing fluids.

As fire arrows rained on us and slaughtered our guidance. Of the men and women who screamed in defiance as spears plunged through their eye sockets and silenced their courage with a singular strike?

That our charge started in ring a hundred and fourth facing down a Torc calvary charge that was buffeted back to save the ranks of a failing Third Company patrol group?

That when we began our walk into the tunnels after that we were constantly being ambushed from every corner by more Torcs. That the tunnels themselves felt like they were walled in flesh form the sheer volume of dead men?

That the blood that spilled from cut throats of heroes and villains was enough to fill the pool of a lord as the mist from sprayed life water of cut throats and the song of steel reigned over the once silent caves began to be the only tempo we could follow.

When orders were drowned our and more of the insects charged up through cracks in the walls. When my companions fourteen in total found themselves being eaten in the middle of combat by the angry pincers of hidden claws darting through walls as we screamed in a slow march.

First the battle above. Then the swamp of blood in the cave. Finally a bug the size of a dragon bearing down on us with such hatred that the first four men who entered the room were beheaded with a single swing.

The beast with hatred in her eyes came upon us. Spewing webbing against the sides of the chamber as she tore her own eggsack open in her mindless screeching. The queen supported by a unit of Torc elite heavy shock calvary.

We fought with everything we had. She cut down the dwarf Bergon with a bite that tore his head off. Watching his hammer fall from his hands with a thunk that felt like a pindrop in a scribe's room.

The duelist from the Silverhats. Tay'fi, with everything they had, they held against the great Queen. With everything they had. Holding it off as I cut my axe into its sides and we tried to bring it down.

The silverhat hunter put their sword through its jaw as I dropped my axe on the back of its neck. With that and the healing tonics of Mandy, we were able to slay it."

The Angel of the Arena upon The Five who survived:

"Tay'fi Fi'Tress Evandeer, of House Findol. A silverhat huntsman? Of great prowess. Very thin. Elven.

Mandy the healer. A woman of such respect in the trade of tending wounds she almost ensured we survived.

Valatina Felton. A sword of the Sons of Conquest. Who stood with extreme bravery with her legs astride the corpse of her companion and lover Tristan. When he was cut down after the battle, she held what was left of his head and wept.. Who held a steely face in the fear of a beast that maimed.

Merlidir. A man who is making his own legend as we speak. Many start with babysteps. His? A leap. He strode into the scene on heels of a daring that would have done in weaker men. Blessed by gods of luck and fortune. Imitation make him a saint of white lies. A helpless cause he took with both hands on the reigns.

I, Erlik the Angel. A gladiator. "

Quote from: Tay'fi Fi'Tress Evandeer, of House Findol's comments upon the events
One thing, only. I might be remembered as the warrior who struck the Queen low. But the names of those who have fallen should be remembered with the same strength.

[Upon his weapons: “Not a rapier. These are smaller swords. Bestowed upon my by the elven gods, Thunder and Lightning.

Y  -  Yelling Goblins,  Hordes of rats, and ooze gather in piles and die within the King's Commons.

As some reward is offered for five bags of rat tails, -some two-hundred tails - to the first to collect and give to the Guildmistress Rosehill.

After a long awkward battle, a tense agreement to turn over the bags to Cull for splitting the reward is agreed upon by a small number present. However, another steps forward with their own bags foremost - a quick brawl ensues with little damage to either party.

Naemearca of the Nine, who repels Cull with the confusing mixed aid of spectators, claims the reward, two-thousand groat and a trophy of rat slaying with some magical powers of small merit.

Z -  Zealous of House Nephezar attempt to close a portal of Harad. Ejahri Mars gives her life.

While ritual and prayer are given to close the portal, to bind the seal. A calamity manifests as the seal only snaps further. The guardian muffles, and shouts displeasure, until it can be found that a royal subject; a life for a life, must be given to replace the long dying guardian.

Ejahri Mars offers herself to close the seal and prevent the release of Harad. In doing so, she disappears from view. Her bravery forever remembered for the betterment of the Ninety-ninth.

AA  - An Assault upon House Nephezar.

After an afternoon of duels, and other altercations, the refuge of Nephezarim holds some manner of brawl after much disagreement over Orzan Warlock Krin Haliax.

Quote from: Thurmatuge Padernig De Gaulleupon the events
The Yemani accosted us Nephezarim, and then Nella of Sunpurse scrouged up a mob. The mob came to the Refuge, with arms and spells.

Brothers Lucien and Belisarius died defending the Refuge.

AB – A blast flames in the Spinning Groat! The Copper Torc test the defenses of the Peerage.

After much tense back and forth, and some measures in the King's Commons primarily between House Nephezar, House Orza and The Copper Torcs, an attack of sorts is made upon the Royal Farmlands of the Ninety-Ninth by way of guile and army.

Rumoured Details Follow:

--There is activity in Ticker Square among the occupying host of the Copper Torc as they ready themselves for some military action... the target is hotly contested, but many speculate it is on the Peerage itself... --

--Anxious traders report that a contingent of Torc are on the move, sneaking out via ring One-Hundred. Another host seems to be gathering in the Open Door. --

--A company of Torcs heads into the commons... marching, slowly, towards the Peerage. --

--Peerage Retainers muster towards the gates to meet the Torc raiders...  There's an explosion from the GROAT. --

--A force of torcs moves towards the Peerage... --

--Lord Nicholas Velstra himself is seen marching towards the Burgage, yelling that the main thrust is through the Mongrelwoods... --

Quote from: ”Knave of 99, Copper Faced”
Royal Dragon! The House...Is....HOT!!

--The first Torc outriders have just entered the farmlands... The retainers and adventurers of the Peerage rush through the Farmlands to massive gate that separates the inhumanity of the Mongrel from the civilization of the Peerage.... --

--The elite Vanguard of the Torc, fresh with sweat from a long ride breaks into the adventurers. --

--A grim faced man atop a massive black horse is seen overseeing the fight... With a whistle, his men begin to fall back into the Mongrelwoods, repulsed... --

... Held at bay by a flimsy set of metal, the hungry Torcs made little progress in this raid.. --

Quote from: Ghaela Stellrum upon the Torc Attack upon the Spinning Groat
An explosion rocked the Spinning Groat Casion – work of the knaves. The Harcourt Sisters, for... some reason? Betrayed the Torcs at the last minute.

And the Torcs attempted to seize the farmlands, but we turned the tide.

Quote from: Yrna Aalsien's upon the battle
Just today we fought off a horde of barbarous Torc raiders. And defended the lives of those who live in here, and that's as good a deed as any. The past few days I had been feeling as though the Peerage were out of touch, perhaps, too removed from the lvies of the smallfolk to truly be worthy of emulation.

As I watched scores of Retainers throw themselves with gusto at the fight, ot protect their liege lords, their honor and their people.

AC – A Ceremony, and an End to the Copper Torc.

A grand wedding between  Sir Nicholas Velstra of House Velstra and Lady Valentina Webber sees the vast majority of the Peerage within Velstra's vale for the party and grand ceremony of the Royal couple.

The Affairs are as follows:

-- As the ward prepares for a wedding, keen eyes notice something else... An army. A hundred banners, of a hundred houses. The most assembled, in the living memory of the ward. Quietly, and without comment, assembling- -

Quote from: ”Announcement through Whisper by Scribe Alphonso Winnseph”
Entering now to the Vale - Presenting Beauxregard Winespill of the Order of the Black Ram, and fair company.

-- Every house, besides Sunpurse, a banner flying. An unusual wedding attendee indeed... --

-- In the Peerage Ward, appearances are everything. This is nothing new; most every citizen of the Ward from lowly steadings serf to the highest liegelord is patently aware of this. Nowhere else does it become more painstakingly evident, though, than in who presents themself at a wedding... --

-- Retainers-at-arms arrive in their vast multitudes - to do otherwise would be an insult to one's betters, regardless of House - but the more interesting question remains which members of the nobility graciously accept Velstra's invitation - or, on the contrary, reject it... --

-- First to arrive is the pennant and banner of the House Glitt. A small motley of household guards clad in traditional highland attire arrives, escorting... --

-- After some delay, the Glitt Household settles itself into place to enjoy the feast. Lady Mairead and her escort, Sir Genovalio, are all smiles and charm - but it is empty and evasive when it comes to the question of Lord Bernard's absence. A rumour of 'anxiety' circulates... --

-- Next, with the grim and sonorous clarion of the penitent, comes Holy House Nephezar. Escorting the acting lord, Adaion, as he enters the Vale. Sharing a brief muttered dialogue with Captain Alexios, he dismisses his guard and takes a position at the feast, not engaging in much socializing. --

-- The distinct lack of household guard in company with Lord Adaion suggests the House may presently have its resources and attention diverted elsewhere... --

-- There is a long delay before House Orza arrives. Fashionably late, though a surprising showing, the Lord Grigori himself has arrived in company with his heir apparent Kristoff Orza, who seems to have had his expression permanently chiseled into one of simmering rage... --

-- The Velstran vale is superfluous with joyous emotion; damsels dance in chaste fashion, highborn men lambaste one another, though none seem taken to brash duel out of respect for the Red Lion. Today, saints have come to sin at the feast. --

-- A minor disturbance in one of the outhouses, swiftly dealt with. A scream is cut off, the sound of it drowned out by another cask of finest red being opened. Nothing to disturb the occasion! --

-- ... The delay is long. Agonizingly long. Some Velstran retainers begin muttering concernedly. Grimaces are thrown at the Sunpurse retainers-at-arms present in the Vale... At the conspicuous absence of Reeve Jodfry, who yet still remains nowhere to be seen. --

-- An exotic, delightful-sounding bugle rings out at the arrival of House Khwajar, the Emir bedecked in his illustrious finery. His escort is minimal, as socially befits a minor House, but he arrests the attention of many a socialite nonetheless. --

-- Arm in arm, very much not in tradition, Sir Nicholas Velstra and Valentina Webber- soon to be Valentina Velstra- step forth, out of the house. --

-- They ascend the podium, and behind them, invite the crowd into the gardens. --

Gifts are welcomed at this moment, after some short time, people begin to gift their offerings:

Mister Dumein prepares a Sonnet and so reads aloud:

“In fair Eryngium fashion, curse withheld / He walked among the gardens reveling – For his eyes then did not know, undispelled / The waiting love that yet was fledgling. In times bitter of war and strife there stood / in fear of Tyrant Torc upon that main -

A maiden who in Suffering there endured / She sought in prowess Velstra's grand domain...

- A startling conclusion ends the poemwork; an upset stomach ends the affair -

Jano the Raider offers gift:

“My gift is the gift of Creation, a gift as beautiful as this Vale, and those who call it home.  Or as well as a fella like me can do!

Drawings of not only the Worthy married couple, but all of the Valiants of the House Velstra. Hung with care in this vale.

I JANO THE RAIDER, have gift'd the gift of Creation, in that form of Art as Close to Beauty as of the Vale and the bride.”

Asharina Winespill offers gifts:

“My lord, my lady... and all esteemed guests and retainers here with us in the Vale today. Today is not only that of celebration, but of unity. Family. Things are truly invaluable. My gift comes twofold, I suppose...

I recall my first blade given to me, so that I would one day become something greater. So I wish to give this blade in the same honour to the wedding pair, so that their firstborn may rise to the same strength and prestige of that of our own Red Lion.

Secondly, I pledge myself to their absolute protection. They shall always have a home and a family, so long as I am breathing. [she then offers her sword to the Butler Frick]”

Neela Orystir offers a grand gift:

[Holding a book aloft, she speaks:” I am retainer Neela Orystir, of House Sunpurse... I have, in front of me, the /original/ transcript of the Song of Sir Roland. Who was an honored hero of Velstran legacy, and fought within the Petty Revolt. A most thrilling time...
There are many copies of this book, but as mentioned, this is the /original/ manuscript.

Alexandra Winespill offers gift, but so too does Domina Lucretia of the Spinning Groat, some minor argument to see who will give the last gift ensues. With Alexandra relenting and allowing Domina the grace:

“I am Domina Lucretia, of the Arena. And to the bride on this day of Redamancy, I give my most cherished item. [She presents a necklace] And to the man who would have her, I offer him this.

[Angel of the Arena Erlik takes knee and holds up a painting done in magnificent reds and glorious saturated color of the lion. Presented in a reclaimed frame from a dispence portrait.]

Painted in his likeness, and colored in Red. Red for his sacrifice to his family. Red for Redamancy.”

-- As the many banners rise outside the peerage... two odd, unknown banners, larger then those of the minor houses, though smaller then the major houses, rise. --

-- One, a purple banner, with a needle and thread upon it. And the second, a Adamantine coin. --

-- A sudden bugle call from outside Velstra Vale. As, finally, OUTRAGEOUSLY LATE... Reeve Jodfry a'Valar arrives, his expression as grim as a gargoyle's. --

Quote from: ”Butler Thomas Frick”
Now, a second chance, at honor. We offer a rare chance... to present the vows. Who would step forward, to officiate?

The crowd recommends myself, I hope to not disappoint, after asking if the Bride and Groom might have prepared their own accords, I make reading of the vows:

Myself:

"Ah, *clears his throat* Sir Nicholas Velstra of House Velstra! Do you take Lady Valentina Webber to join you in grand ceremony! In Life and Duty to the most Glorious Peerage, and in happiness among the grand Vale of our most Royal of Peerage?"

Sir Nicholas Velstra:  King's honour - I do.

Myself:

"*dips his head* Lady Valentina Webber! Do you in turn, take Sir Nicholas Velstra, to live your life in the King's Graces of this Vale, to find peace and certainly alongside he to be your Husband?"

Valentina Webber: King's honour - I do!

Myself:

"Then by the Power of the Royal Archive, and the blessings of the Divine Alphabet, may it be known to all the good King's Men, that this union is bond, and hale!

I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride"

-- As if on cue, a gaudy motley of minstrels and troubadours is CONJURED from the aether - seemingly out of nowhere, there is a sudden and abrupt baudy explosion of music. Fool's hats adorned with baubles, absurdly garish colours, and ridiculously curly shoes are present in excess. --

-- As the folk band erupt into a song, Nicholas and Valentina begin stepping back and forth in a courtly dance. It seems well rehearsed - they've obviously done this several times before. --

-- Norbert wipes a tear from his eyes, his jowls wobbling with joy as he watches his son and daughter-in-law dance. Elsewhere, other nobles are pairing off with suitable debutantes to join in the dancing. --

A speech is risen afterwards:

Sir Nicholas Velstra:

“Thank you all for coming. Your gifts, and your support, have warmed our hearts. However... You are not blind. You are not fools. This is not a time for... wanton joy. My beloved bride suffered loss, beyond loss – her home.

And our home, the Peerage ward... it too, has suffered loss. Too long, our city has been divided. This Marriage... this joining... Let it not end at this podium.

So – I too would like to offer a gift to my bridge. And I hoped all of you might help me, in gifting.

It is past time the Torc are driven from our ring. Past time that which divides us is TORN down. Past time that men of ninety-nine, no longer call themselves by ward, or Ticker...

Join me, now, I call upon you all. And we shall have an accord. We shall reunite our city. Who will join me, in this? Then... let us end this wedding – not with a dance, but with a war. Gather to the Ward, Proper, and prepare.”

In response speaks The Reeve:

“... Not Sunpurse. We will have no part in your selfish powerplay, Lion-pup. I will not be a party to your Blatant usurpation of the ancestral tittles. I will not see your house enriched by this chevauchee'”

I go to record and assist the efforts of the Majority of Houses, as High House Sunpurse, Blackjacks, and others remain behind for the security of the Peerage or other duties.

A grand melee erupts in the commons, I am wounded by arrows, and whisked back to the Peerage after falling in a swoon. However, when I awaken from my condition, unsavory sorts have begun their assault of the Peerage!

House Sunpurse and members of the Blackjacks attend as we push back this scourge. Sunpurse Retainers Rene, Sebastyn, Sovan, Neela, and High Magus Benedict Vauss are present, alongside Peter and Nana of the blackjacks, and Eadric Sarfel, merchant of the Burgage.

It was confirmed afterwards that this attack was made upon us by banditmen of the Mongrelwood, Goats. Some horrible large shambling boar beast among them, and a winged terror that escaped.

After our defense of the Peerage, the reigning army returns – the Lord of the Torcs, Euric Freward, lies dead. Solomon Krown, dead, simply meters before the bridge. The Retainers of Orza had finished him, Knife Jouvander keeping his word once more.

AD – A Disturbance within the Catacombs

Quote from: ”Archive Scribe”
[The rustling of parchment.] A message from the Royal Archives. Having tallied the desecrations committed in the catacombs, we regret to name the following as now missing from their rightful place of rest...

... Sir Gerhard Felvas. Sir Mandel Blaysham. Sir Roland Velstra. Lord Aughred III of House Glitt. Our condolences to the aggrieved. We hope that their bodies may be recovered soon by the valiant, and restored to their eternal rest.

AE - An Eradication of the Gylherd

Quote from: ”Ser Jouvander Vindascas”
Greetings, I seek to gather a sizeable group to explore a threat found to Ring 99. Rally to the Bridge promptly if you seek to earn glory alongside me.

Quote from: ”Velstra Retainer Niven Scurlock”
Retainers of the Ward! The Royal Archivist calls for aid! Under the leadership of our newest knight, Sir Jouvander, we assemble! Expect spiders! Gather within the gate!

Quote from: ”Orza Retainer Gervasy Igorevich”
Oyez! Know that the woods are now safe from the Gylherd menace in perpetuity. Their witches have been slain, their ritual stones cast down, and their groves burned to a cinder. So speaks the Bear of Orza. Glory unto Lord Grigori.

An account is further available.

AF – A Fair Wedding within the Castle Orza

-- Something almost unheard of occurs in the Ward this evening. --
-- The halls of Castle Orza erupt not with war-cries, but with the ferociously bawdy singing of celebrants. --
--An old dress in Velstran purple is paraded on the parapets and then casually shredded to bits by drunken hands. --

"The Proceedings of the Wedding"

Retainer Niven Scurlock:

Sir Nicholas and Lady Valentina gave us the inspiration for our love to grow.  We hope that as you were their celebrant, you would be ours.

Myself:

Sound enough reason, indeed! Of course, did you, yourselves prepare vows, or should I simply begin the ceremony?

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

 Just get on with it.

Tzacol Ix:

[The Yemanzi eyes the gate, briefly, the burning solar motes in his helm brilliant, near blinding to look upon.]

Retainer Niven Scurlock:

Perhaps, as the couple once did. You will guide our oaths to one another, and we might add to them as our heart wills.

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[He coughs]. Right ahem.. I will take Niven in matrimony, she will become my wife, that being said.. I will serve her faithfully just as it will be returned.

Myself:

Ah, well, yes... Ser Jouvander of House Vindascas, Vassal to Lord Orza, do you take Lady Niven Scurlock, Retainer of Velstra, to... yes, serve together under the grace of the Peerage and King?

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

I do, Alphonso.

Retainer Niven Scurlock:

[Her eyes light up, looking between the gathered and Jouvander]

Myself:

*dips his head slightly and turns to Niven* And do you Retainer Niven Scurlock of House Velstra take Ser Jouvander Vindascas, Vassal to Lord Orza to be your husband, and serve faithfully together for King and Peerage?

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[He glances to Niven, his eyes flicker with a hint of disinterest of the whole affair]

Tzacol Ix:

[Pitiless motes look on, unblinking, unflinching.]

Retainer Niven Scurlock:

I do. I further pledge, as a loyal servant of the King, and before the sight of Yeman. To take my husband's vows as my own. Let his allies by my allies, and his foes, be my foes.

--Abruptly the doors slam open.--

Myself:

*A brief splash of concern appears upon his face, but he hides it well enough, glancing to Jouvander a moment then back to Niven*

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

[He gaze shifts between the two as they make way through their vows. His expression is mirthless.]

Myself:

Oh dear...

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

My boy!

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[He pales, glancing to Piotr].

Myself:

Oh! Salutations!

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[He rushes in, stumbling.. clearly well into his evening libation by now]

Myself:

 This is good news, yes?

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

 F-f-father..

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

[His nostrils flare.]

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

It's so good to see you.

Retainer Niven Scurlock:

[Smiles warmly as she looks upon Capo]

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

Keep going, scribe.

Tzacol Ix:

Continue, aye...

[Shout] (In the Spinning Groat, a place sits empty by the roaring fire.  Old Sam plays, but he plays for an audience lacking its principle patron.)[/I[

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[He gulps about.. Clearly rattled by seeing his father].

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[He paces about, a slurry of crimson and mixed emotions on his face] A wedding! I thought he was -- and all that business, with Krissy; hah! HAH!

Myself:

Ah, well, as you say - Then by the Power of the Royal Archive, and the blessings of the Divine Alphabet, I, Scribe Alphonso Winneseph make this union bond and hale!

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

My boy, my boy! My beakwetter! This is the girl?!

Lady Niven Vindascas:

[She bows her head politely to Capo]

Myself:

Long Live the King! You may now kiss the bride!

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

[The sound of grinding teeth rings out from under his helm.]

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

Indeed, one of the fairest in the Peerage, father. I could've certainly done worse. [Takes Nivens hand looking her into her eyes].

Lady Niven Vindascas:

[She stares at Jouvander, a constant smile]

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

[He looks away.]

Tzacol Ix:

A fine and fair retainer... one of Faith even.... or soon to be. [The Priest's voice level, inflectionless.]

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

And a Velstran, too! [Mulls his wine, glancing up.  Down.  Up again.  He squints.] Is she one of Norbert's bitches?...no.. wait.

[He daubs some wine on his hand and then holds his dripping fingers up, comparing the ruddy color to her gilded locks.] Definitely not, eh?

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

I didn't grow up here, but perhaps my children will, and their children to come.. With you by my side... Niven...

Lady Niven Vindascas:

It is as you say, Jouvander. My love. We will carve out a place here for ourselves. For the Vindascas family.

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

Haaaaah...!

Tzacol Ix:

[The solar motes flicker as the Capo advances further...]

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

By Grigori's right, we will.

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[Shoves into an embrace, reeking of sweat and wine-soured breath.] Haaaah!

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[Stops speaking as the Capo approahes].

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

Daughter!

Lady Niven Vindascas:

[A brief pause, before she returns the embrace]  Father!

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

Ah-ha.. -ha ha .. [Stiffles quite the awkward laugh].

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

Yes! Yeeessss!

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[But.. The man embraces his father for the first time].

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[Grips his son under one arm, in a tight squeeze.]

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

Ha father, that's quite a tight hold! I can barely breathe!

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[A soft sniffle..] Oh, he would have wept to have seen it so..

Niven Scurlock:

[Struggles in Capo's grasp] I- I'm overjoyed to have family again

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[He loosens his grip, cackling softly.] Love! The Lord must know, da? It is too short, this life, to play with.. knives.. and not know a woman's love! Ah! I know! I will go, and I will tell him!

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

[He doffs his helmet and kneads the bridge of his nose with two fingers.]

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

Ha - ha. Of course father -.. I am glad to have you come for the ceremony.

Capo Piotr of House Orza:

[Drunk and pleased and crooning merrily, he saunters off..] Yes!

Myself:

Do take care, sir!

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

Let me know... --.. What he says.

Quote from: ”Whisper by Scribe Alphonso Winneseph”
To all good Kingsmen, Let it be known that Ser Jouvander of House Vindascas, Vassal to Lord Orza and Retainer Niven Scurlock, Retainer of House Velstra have joined in Marriage before record of the Royal Archive and Fealty to the King.

Let all welcome Ser Jouvander Vindascas and Lady Niven Vindascas in their happy union!

Quote from: ”Whisper by Orzan Retainer Gervasy Igorevich”
As the good scribe has declared, I believe that it no longer suits Lady Vindascas to dwell in the Vale. Faeryle, Rafaela. You are free to come to the Castle. Care for some pudding?

Leopold Sobol gifts a ring to Ser Jouvander and a bracelet to Lady Niven, as well as a peacock for the feast. Retainer Rhamah of Velstra gifts a fine ruby shield he gathered from a dead changeling.

A great display of magical colourful arts were displayed by Retainer Rhamah, illusions and dazzling shows met in the warm fires and wholesome meals within Castle Orza.

A friendly paint battle ensued with most trying to land a drop upon Ser Jouvander who dodged most of the effects! Afterwards a grand parade throughout the Peerage saw the spectacle continue all the way to the endless Feast of Velstra and back!

Then, with the coming dawn, did Lady Niven Vindascas take oath under Yeman, the Burning Lord.

"Upon the Oath to Yeman"
Tzacol Ix:

Blessed be the Burning Lord, Bringer of the Dawn, opponent of the Night's Shadows...

Lady Niven Vindascas:

 [Murmers the words after Tzacol]

Tzacol Ix:

Another today shall be anointed in His light, that the Flame shall spread, that the Burning Faith grows ever brighter...: You come here to accept His will, before that of all others- To see His light shine upon the World, to serve him for the Dawn he brings...This is truth, yes?

Lady Niven Vindascas:

 It is true!

Tzacol Ix:

Good. Gird well yourself, then, for those who would accept his Cinder must be cleansed in the same flame that stokes the soul.

Lady Niven Vindascas:

[Breathes deeply]

Tzacol Ix:

[And with this, he slips into a tongue foreign to man, burning syllables spill from his lips, the solar motes in his helm growing brighter and brighter....]

 Tzacol Ix:

The Unclean shall fear His light. Let the shades of your past be burned free, never to haunt you while you serve him truthfully..

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

[He marks himself with the sign of Yeman.]

Tzacol Ix:

[A massive pillar of searing, blood-red light falls from the sky, annointing her.]

Lady Niven Vindascas:

[Head bowed, a tremor still in her hands as she prays]

Tzacol Ix:

Let each oath you make be a thing stronger than steel- unceasing and immutable, as His oath to bring the Dawn each day is... Let the false and meek fear you, for in your eyes shall be His light, in your hands His flame, and in your soul, His Cinders...

Tzacol Ix:

I anoint you and name you Sister, may well your soul sear in His light, that it shall only find power again from His embrace.

Tzacol Ix:

With this, it is kindled. Rise, Cindersoul of Yeman, and now and forever continue to rise. Let your deeds draw the rest to His light, or scatter the meek in fear of His wrath. Rise in His light, as it shines now upon us.

Retainer Gervasy Igorevich, Bear of Orza:

Welcome, sister. Welcome, Cindersoul. Praise the Light. Praise the Sun. Praise Yeman!

Lady Niven Vindascas:

[Looks up, smile wide] Praise Yeman and the Burning Lord.

Tzacol Ix:

Praise be the Burning Lord! [He raises high his spear, as the brilliance only builds about them.] And so it is done. Welcome, Sister. Welcome, Cindersoul.

Lady Niven Vindascas:

At his will, I will rise ever further. A soul to cast away the night and all the horrors that assail us.

Tzacol Ix: [With another burning word spoken, the wounds upon her vanish in a flash of light, as do his own, leaving only a searing heat in the air.]

Lady Niven Vindascas:

As tribute to the Burning Lord. I gift the promised forfeiture of an Oathbreaker. Twice sworn, twice bled, twice beaten, once broken.

The rite is interrupted as Leopold, a witness, is struck by an assassin of De Foye.

 Xovak the Shadow:

 Surprise.

The Assassin's attempts are foiled

AG  – A Ghasty end to a Duel between Leopold Sobol and Rolbrick Gallehallow.

Leopold Sobol dueled a servant of De Foye in the commons to the death – while Leopold was pelted with dispels and the swings and barbs of the warrior Rolbrick Gallehallow, Leopold was eventually able to daze the mind of this servant of De Foye, and as he fell in a laughing fit upon the ground, did Leopold force him to yield.

However, before Gallehallow could speak, he was slain by Xovak, an assassin in service to De Foye.

AH – A Horrible Evening gives way to Night.

Quote from: ”An Ominous Whisper...”
So uh.. Velstra just murdered some woman in the commons, now there is a brawl between Glitt and Velstra in the commons.

-- Complete and utter chaos in the King's Commons. Bodies lie strewn across the ground. --
-- The cobblestones run red with blood. The stench of the recently deceased clings to the air. --

Madam Domina of the Spinning Groat and Orzan Retainer Gervasy Igorevich were slain by Retainer Faeryle Harcourt in a chaotic event that saw House Velstra retainers battle House Glitt and House Orza in the commons. A court trial was then held instead of the Council of Peers.

During the Chaos within the commons, Velstra Retainers Rhamah and Emilo beset Tzacol Ix after leading him to a changeling hunt and were slain. Rhamah admitted to him was a Yevethaxian, and Emilian wished to join him in death.

”Minutes of the Trial”
The Defence:

Courtier Charlotte Royer of House Velstra, Defendant Attorney:

"The defendants were acting out of necessity to root out a conspiracy that has wormed through our Ward. That is my statement at this time."

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

A conspiracy! Okay. So, instead of pursuing a legal means of trying to punish the conspirators, they instead just kill them? What steps were taken to provide a means to deal with this conspiracy?

Courtier Charlotte Royer of House Velstra:

"They were acting within limited time to both gather concrete evidence, and stymy the plotting that Domina was very much part of."

Sunpurse Retainer eela Orystir:

At what point had Gervasy or Domina committed treason against our King, or in service to their Lord?

Glitt Retainer Grayson Pilkins:

I move that we give sentence based on what's been said, no further defense, if they don't pick things up. Awful quick to murder someone by striking her in the back, unarmed, but slow to talk

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

I'm almost inclined to agree.

Courtier Charlotte Royer of House Velstra: "Peerage laws do not presently extend beyond the bridge. When conspiracy threatens one's life and livelihood, action must be taken, and time was limited for my defendents."

Sir Jouvander Vindascas:

I quite agree Grayson, and seeing as I'm a Noble of this Ward I am inclined to see all three hang.

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

If Sir Jouvander wishes them all to hang, that is what shall occur. Are you inclined to agree?

Courtier Charlotte Royer of House Velstra:

"I would like to allow them to speak the conspiracy in full, or state it myself."

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

The issue, Miss Royer. Is that there is no one who is alive right now that can attest to the truth of the conspiracy. Or rather, their side of it.They're all dead.

Myself:

I would ask well Retainer Asharina her stance and involvement prior to assisting her fellow reatiners.

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

The Royal Archives wish a statement from Asharina Winespill, before a verdict is imposed.

Courtier Charlotte Royer of House Velstra:

"I understand the difficulties in that. Yes. But at this point my defendants wish to explain the breadth of the conspiracy, whether or not it is dismissed."

Sir Jouvander Vindascas:

If nothing substantial is said, well.

Velstra Retainer Asharina Winespill:

I was aware of this conspiracy, and I still believe it to be true. I was defending family like any would expect, and I believed their intentions were indeed to see my fellow retainers killed.

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

[a long drag of her cigarette...] So you would agree in the sentiment of murdering a retainer and a commoner because of a conspiracy.

Velstra Retainer Asharina Winespill:

It was heard and seen by witness of Rafaela, here.

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

Rafaela Harcourt. Give your testimony.

Velstra RetainerRafaela Harcourt:

[A slight nod.]On the night of their capture, the elves were taken to Castle Orza. Niven was with the entourage, so we followed, thinking it a matter open to the House.

We were politely, but firmly, rebuffed. This aroused my suspicions, and so I spied 'pon them from afar.

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

Spied how? Divination?

Velstra Retainer Rafaela Harcourt:

Correct. Gervasy offered the elves a "mercy." He bid them to serve his House in his effort to see Velstra and Nephezar purged of "impurity."

He sought to incite war within our Ward. Present at this meeting were the Ix's, Niven, Yrna, and Gervasy himself.

They detected my intrusion shortly afterwards and saw the room warded from sight.

Shortly after this, the elves "escaped" and murdered a retainer of Nephezar in cold blood. Duncan, I believe his name was.

Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir:

I just have to ask, why not issue duel immediately upon hearing this conspiracy?

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

Yet, Sunpurse came fourth to face Gervasy for killing an elf? And an elven claiming to be apart of the Warband just attacked me in the Commons. I am tired of healing them tarnish the name of my dead fellow.

Velstra Retainer Rafaela Harcourt:

This was... Proposed. But I had sought to learn more and urged my sister to be cautious.

Glitt Retainer Elsbeth Malles:

"He also spoke with me, aye. And told me that there were dangers in allowing half-elves into the Ward, on account of them possibly being sympathetic with their kin in the Ponds."

Glitt Retainer Joseph NuII:

 So, what you're sayin' is..

Nephezar Censor Wentworth 'Beastbane' Baxter:

He wanted to have elves who entered the Ward searched.

Glitt Retainer Joseph NuII:

You murdered Domina for being there in House Nephezar when Gervasy convinced him t' vote for his motion.

Glitt Retainer Elsbeth Malles: [A nod of her head.]

"Aye, non-humans to be under the escort of a Retainer at all times."
Sunpurse Retainer Neela Orystir Upon the Ruling of Trial:

The sisters Harcourt shall elect a champion among them, and the chosen will fight for both their freedom. Asharina Winespill is freed from her bondage. Should they refuse, all three will hang.

One shall have their heart removed. The other will burn. Should they acheive victory, Tzacol Ix will lie dead and they will be freed from their crimes.

That is, of course, unless Sir Jouvander cares to execute them himself. He is, after all, above our station and can impose any judgements he wishes. Do these terms satisfy you, Sir Jouvander?

Ser Jouvander Vindascas:

[Glances over to Tzacol]. Yeman will see the rightly punished for this affair.
[close]

Following the Trial and in its decision, Duello is had, deciding the fates of the sisters Harcourt.

However, with a short sceptical of giant ooze, mistform, and hammer swings,  Tzacol Ix loses upon the bridge to Retainer Faeryle, and in the following moments his brother leaps to attack the victor of Dulleo - He is beaten and slain as well.

-- Faeryle Harcourt means to show today in victory the true strength behind Velstra's bonhomie. In death however, her name shall be spit upon and live on in infamy.. --
-- Far, far away, a head turns. A finger crooks and an attendant is summoned. A missive is writ... --
-- 'TODAY DIES THE SUN.' --

Following her Victory over the Yemani, Retainer Faeryle Harcourt spoke:

“Now understand.. There is only one god of this ward- The Nine Faced one. Yemani oppression ends today.”

In summation,

A - Madam Domina Lucretia of the Spinning Groat
B -  Retainer Gervasy Igorevich Bear of Orza
C - Velstra Retainer Rhamah Khamashalta
D - Velstra Retainer Emilo
E - Tzacol Ix servant of Yemani
F - Atakat Ix , Tzacol's brother.

All die this evening, with night descending upon the last.

AI  – An Invitation to the Deadly Games of the Titan Harad.

And so, the seals were broken, and did speak the former prisoner his designs to offer prizes for deadly contest. I did not attend the games that took Ser Jouvander Vindacas's life. However, rumors of the event persist...

Quote from: ”Herald of Harad”
The seals are broken! The Grand Harad is free! Now is the time for celebration; a fete is to be thrown, rambunctiousness and roaring revelries are to be expected! Come, come join the festivities, soon to begin...

Quote from: ”City Whisper sent by Glitt Retainer Nana”
Am oi th' only Retainer who didn' go to th' King's enemy's party? Wot th' fock. Right honorable lot you are. Any Retainer tha' didn't suddenly ferget their allegiance tae th' King fer th' promise of loot, ye greedy fucks. There's a dispensary, get tae it.Tae any Glitt 'tainer at th' fuckin' party, m'gonnae beat yer arse. Ye let th' fuckin' /accountants/ win th' Dispense.

AJ  – A Jolt to the Peerage, as Lady Niven Vindascas is slain by Murderous, Calamitous elves.

What began as a patrol of the recently allotted fiefdom of Ninety-Seven to House Orza through House Vindascas as by declaration of the Royal Inquisitor of RIngs Ninety to One Hundred, though his Fifth Decree...

Quote from: Whisper made by Lady Niven Vindascas
This is Lady Vindascas. House Vindascas declares the Bleeder's Way of 97 to be our domain and holding, to pacify and restore as vassal to Great House Orza under the auspices of our King. Gangs of 97. You are either to submit to our rule or be forcefully pacified. I will declare a march soon.

Quote from: Inquisitor of the Rings Ninety to One Hundred
By Fifth Inquisitorial Decree your holding recognized, Lady Vindascas. Those who seek to travel Kingward may seek parlay with her Growing House should you seek passage deeper and Key of Passage. For as the Lady has proven in her rise not all battles won by combat.

Ended terribly, as the advancing party was ambushed by Elves of the Wayward, who are sanctioned by the Fourth Inquisitorial Decree, the Trail of Trampled Leaves, to Vacate beyond Ring Ninety in orderly understanding.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Modares of Caerhithe”
[A shuddering breath.] Milady Niven Vindascas was foully murdered by the ambush of an elven archer in the 97th. As her apprentice, I, Modares of Caerhithe, have failed her. Great House Orza has lost one of its most leal minor nobles, and House Vindascas is ended.

Honor upon the one who avenges the treachery paid to milady. Inquisitor, I would speak with you, when you've time.

They quickly speak of how they plot to utilize their allotted grace to reek vengeance upon those Leal Retainers of the Peerage that harmed them for doing the King's duty and ending a Changeling.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by the Wayward Merildir”
Since awaking to this city my siblings and I found our people in suffering. Pained by the whims of men who in their lesser wisdoms would hunt us and spit at our feet.

Our justice has been swift. This night marks our final vengeance upon the ninety-ninth ring. The Wayward has blessed the arrow that slew the conniving and cruel Lady Vindascas.

Speak tales of vengeance and our people will sing them for one thousand years to come. Look above tonight, wardsmen, and notice a star lost to your sky.

Quote from: City Whisper by Wayward Azathrael”
Dark Elrun, the last survival of Lira'leth's band spent many lonely years bent on vengeance after the hanging of his friends. Over a hundred Kingsmen of noble stock have fallen to his avenging arrows. This is Azathrael, the one who dons his armor. In honor of Elrun, Lira'leth and the Wayward, Ysildea has been avenged. Let it be a lesson to the Edan who seek to cause our people further harm.

Another Hero of the Peerage lost between the conflicts of the Wayward and the Leal....

AK - Another Knell Rings Through the Peerage; Duello Challenge by Orza Retainer Elias Brightbrook against the Inquisitor of Rings Ninety to One Hundred

Then after, the Inquisitor of RIngs Ninety to One Hundred was challenged as his Fifth edict spoke to the removal of the elves from the Rings Ninety to One Hundred:

Quote from: ”Retainer Elias Brightbrook”
Inquisitor. I expect you to answer for this. Since your meteorlogical rise to power from seemingly nowhere you have done little more than parlay with the king's enemies, brokering deals and dispensing no justice. Bring Orza the heads of these 'Wayward,' or prepare for Duello, ser.

Quote from: ”The Inquisitor of Rings Ninety to One Hundred”

I am the Sovereign appointed adjudicator of Ten Rings. Seven days I have toiled in blood, sweat, and tears for our Sovereign and you DARE attempt to stand in judgement over me?

Gaze upon the lickspittle of the once mighty House Orza. Hear the mewlings of the Holy House of Nephezar. Did the Elves take your BALLS or only your PRIDE? Or was it never there to -begin- with? You have had to do nothing in your service but honor your Lords and the Archive chastises you all for your failings.

My -life- was on the line for my duty. Come to the Bridge if you are so eager to be thrown from this world for I tire of your Noble Houses mewling as worms.

But heed this and heed it well. If I lose this Cowl it will be your responsibility for Certamen invoked. And should you fail our Sovereign it shall be the crushing weight of a City's Golem ripping the noose that hangs you. For those the terms and that his Promise. You will have a moment to reflect if you wish to recant, if you are unprepared to face this burden.

Elias Brightbrook loses his life in Duello against the Inquisitor.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by the Inquisitor of Rings Ninety to One Hundred”
Honor and remember Elias Brightbrook, Sworn of Lord Grigori Orza, who perished in search of justice for Niven Vindascas' demise. Where others would have yielded he was unrelenting. May he find the peace in death he did not in service of our Sovereign.

AL  - A Losing Battle, Velstra Retainer Rafaela Harcourt was murdered by Kastian of the Worshipful House of Righteous Murder and the Death of her Half-Sister Retainer Faeryle by Duello with Censor Bjarney.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Retainer Faeryle Harcourt”
My half-sister lays dead at the hands of Kastian the murderer. The Adamantine Vault thinks to shield him. But if they do not surrender him to me, I will burn down the place itself if I must. Those who will see Justice done and bringing in this murderer, I welcome to the Peerage Bridgere I depart.

The Adamantine Vault has a single day to hand over the murderer Kastian to Velstra or the Blackjacks, before I will hunt down any man or woman affiliated with their business.. The Harbouring of fugitives is OVER.

Quote from: ” City Whisper by Velstra Retainer Faeryle Harcourt”
Adamantine Vault, your time has ran out. I gave you enough time to provide the murderer hiding within your walls. This is the last warning, extradite Kastian from your walls, or I will destroy every asset and labour you have outside of your walls.

Quote from: ”City Sending by The Inquisitor of Rings Ninety to One Hundred”
To clear the matter publicly the Adamantine Vault has expelled the individual who was hidden within their walls. No resistance of any form given. Retainer Harclay of the House of Glitt has been named by the Bannerhouse to replace them on the Tribunal.

The situation at hand which is to be resolved is as follows: Rafaela Harcourt was executed in the Willow Ways in siege of the Scrying Tower by Yrna of the Weavers and Kastian of the Slayers. In bloody melee did the woman Riley and Faeryle Harcourt prevail despite Yrna's attempts of illusory death magic. She was summarily executed on the spot for such.

While the Slayer fled evidence was presented by the woman Riley of pamphlet and propaganda declariing 'Justice upon the Harcourts' found among the slain Yrna's belongings. Her own Weavers since speaking out in testimony of her political ambitions and closeness with Domina Lucretia, executed previously by the Harcourts who were found absolved in Trial by Combat.

The Tribunal will be convening to discuss the fate of the surviving Assassin. There is no denying the slaying of a Retainer is a grievous thing. The question raised however is if this matter resolved by the Mastermind's already execution, if her hired hand to be hanged, or if the Slayer to be ordered to pay off his blood-debt by shedding blood for the Peerage.

The public shall be summoned to the Council of Peers, per legislative act passed by the Council, at the time the Tribunal to be called. It is estimated if not within the next bell then either this evening or on the morrow this matter at last laid to rest. Good day.

Before Trial can be done with Retainer Faeryle Harcourt present, a challenge of Duello is met upon the Bridge of the Peerage...

Quote from: ” Orzan and Vindascas Retainer Modares of Caerhithe”
A challenge of honor, duello, is called between Mercer Halemont and Bernard of Nephezar. They shall fight upon the bridge of the righteous Peers, to decide whose honor is better than the others. Let fate decide the winner!

Quote from: ” City Whisper by Velstra Retainer Faeryle Harcourt”
Three different people came to me, to tell me of how the CRAVEN BANDIT LIAR of Nephezar, Cantor BJARNEY, paid Blackjacks to not pursue and arrest the MURDERER Kastian of the Adamantine Vault. She denies all Charges, but let her Dishonourable conduct speak for herself. It would not surprise me if she hired the man in the first place.

-- In a ferocious display of violence and martial prowess, the weapons of Bjarney of Nephezar and Faeryle of Velstra clashed on the Peerage bridge. For a time, it seemed as though the fight could go either way - but in the end, Bjarney edged out the victory and sent Faeryle to the Waters. --

Quote from: ”City Whisper from Censor Bjarney”
Faeryle Harcourt died for nothing, accusing the wrong person of being responsible for the death of her sister. Glory to house Nephezar, glory to God!

Still, further verdict is desired, and so given.

Quote from: ” City Whisper by Velstra Courier Charlotte Royer”
To clarify, though now free from the threat of sudden vengeance, Kastian is most certainly not free of his trial simply because the family of his alleged victim is dead.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by the Inquisitor of the Rings Ninety to One Hundred”
The following is to be the final judgement on the matter of Kastian the Slayer and at long last end to the vile Conspiracy that has enthralled so many. There have been numerous lives lost, trust shaken, alliance broken, and our unification tested. This cannot and will not be how Noble men and women of our Sovereign comport themselves.

For conspiring to assassinate two Retainers of House Velstra, the Weaver known as Yrna has been lawfully executed. Regardless of her reasoning in placing blame upon House Velstra for the death of Domina Lucrecia, such a reckless and destructive pursuit of justice is mockery.

However time and again the Sisters Harcourt, even until final moment before this judgement rendered by Tribunal, obfuscated and kept secret. They refused to work within the confines of the structure provided by the Council of Peers for trial brought. Had Yrna been brought in alive for confession it may very well have cleared their name of -all- accusation levied.

Instead they chose death. And what we were left with is a patchwork of evidence, testimony from her fellow Weavers, and even the accusations from the Harcourts themselves that until her last breath she was suspected of deeper conspiracy. None though told, none made aware, they acted in this alone.

For assassination of Velstran Retainer the individual known as Kastian the Slayer is named Exile from Ticker Square and the Peerage Ward. If he wish serve the Nine Faced God in his workings of the Seventh Face he may do so at the Temple of the Commons and sulk the alleyways and gutters.

And if the House of Velstra seeks justice they may follow suit as the Harcourt Sisters. Pursue him on their own if so their desire but the Adamantine Vault and no other power at fault but they. As the House of Redwheat is so fond of saying - You reap what you sow. Had at any step of this maddening, bloodthirsty justice been avoided they would have further cause. This matter settled.

AM   – A Man Acquitted, the Trial of Clarenece Mead, known widely as Clarence De Foye.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Leopold Sobol”
The Trial of Clarence de Foye will begin as soon as the Retainers are back from being devoured by the Red Storm in the Commons. The Trial will be held within the building of the Council of Peers in the Burgage. Representatives of all the houses are most welcome to attend.

After some wait, and some chaos involving knaves in the commons, the Trial of Clarence Mead begins. A man of no Noble House or bearings either, a merchant by trade and association.

"Minutes of the Trial of Mister Clarence Mead"
Mister Leopold Sobol:

“I am Leopold Sobol, Paladin of the Lady, Citizen of the Peerage Ward. I have come here to seek justice for the people who due to Clarence de Foye's negligence have met sometimes untimely, something terrible fates.

As his actions were never deliberate or direct... this is the only charge I can put against him, where his lack of action, interest and stewardship lead to tragedy and death when it could have been avoided.

Where instead of duty and dilligence, ignorance took hold. That will be my charge, against Clarence de Foye.”

Mister Clarence Mead:

“To clarify, which specific stature of the King's Law am I charged with violating?”

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

“Yes, that's what I aimed to ask as well.”

Mister Leopold Sobol:

“Such an act does not appear in the King's statue... However... this is what makes this trial so different and unique. Where we do not charge a man with a direct act, of murder or other such ignoble acts... but where their lack of dutifulness has lead to people losing their lives. The lives of the King's people, citizens, loyals.
If we are to ignore the deaths of these people, and allow such behavoir to continue, where we keep our eyes shut to suffering for the sake of groats and profits, then we walk a dark path indeed.”

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

“And if we can begin punishing people arbitarily, for the actions of others under them, what then? What exactly did he allow to happen? I'm entirely out of the loop.”

Mister Clarence Mead:

"Would it be helpful if I quickly explained how this all started?”

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

“Absolutely it would.”

Mister Clarence Mead:

“I will be brief and respect everyone's time – I am Clarence Mead, son of Waldric De Foye. I took his name after his and his son's death out of respect, as I received his inheritance. I was borne of an illicit affair, as it were.

I have managed my inheritance with the help of many business handlers and the like. One, in particular, Bilton was most effective.
He saw the Blackjacks to handle a labor dispute on one of my many properties.

A particular man, Joseph Null, murdered Bilton in cold blood.  Then, he Joseph came to me, spat in my face, and told me he would hunt me down and murder me next.

This was in the Spinning Groat. I was terrified and grieving, so I turned to drink.  Two men approached me with a solution.  Their names were Rolbrick and Elvur.

Rolbrick would obtain a legal Writ of Murder from the guild against Joseph Null, who at that time was unaffiliated with any House.

Elvur would seal me away in a holding device of his, a mandolin, so I would be safe from Null's assassinations.

I transferred seventy thousand groats to Rolbrick's name for this legal endeavor, to use as he saw fit, provided it was all legal.

Then, I entered the mandolin, and next thing I knew, I woke up, bleeding, covered in splinters, with Leopold here standing over me in the Peerage Ward.

I demanded a trial to clear my name, as he accused me of unspecified crimes that I have no knowledge of.
Is that a fair summary?

Mister Leopold Sobol:

It is indeed.

Mister Clarence Mead:

[Nods.]  Then I will say no more until asked.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

And now I shall go over the key events, in order, relating to what you just said.

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

“Please”

Mister Leopold Sobol:

Joseph Null did not threaten Clarence de Foye for no reason. the Lumber Camp in the Mongrelwoods where he, as a Blackjack, was sent, was heavily mismanaged. There was a lack of beds, food, and medicine. People died within that camp and according to accounts of one survivor, who sadly was murdered unlawfuly by one of the assassins hired by Rolbrick, a Bugbear, all or most of the-
lumber from the camp was dumped into a valley, or ravine.

Further, after that Lumber Camp incident when Rolbrick has hired his helpers, and Elvur began to "prowl" around Ticker and Peerage pretending to be Simon the Musician, an unknown number of other innocent people have been killed during this time.

Two of these deaths I witnessed myself, children, used as bait by the Bugbear. He killed one of them as soon as he no longer needed it... and when I attempted to disable the monster and failed he killed the other child...

Rolbrick himself was murdered by one of his own people, an assasin named Kovax... who, I presume, was chosen by Elvur himself, who told me that he “did not like the man at all, and wished him dead...”

This murder occurred during my duel against him, in the commons.
Just as Rolbrick was about to tell me where de Foye was hiding, he had his throat sliced open.

In any case... there was a total of eight assassins... most of them seeking to repay some debt of theirs... and they all strongly believe it could only be repaid by killing myself or Null...

Here I would wish to underline, I am uncertain why the assassins shifted their attention from Null to myself... but such was the case.

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

"From what you've told us, de Foye is as much a victim as anyone else. It is not a crime to be rused; he overpaid for a legal service in a fit of grief, and the excess funds were put towards dastardly deeds outside his control."

"The very fact the assassins shifted focus from Null to you is evidence of that."

Mister Clarence Mead:

 [Nods quietly.]

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

[He holds up a hand.] Let him finish.

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

[A small nod, then no movement otherwise] "Apologies."

Mister Leopold Sobol:

Miss Royer is correct however...

As much as I hoped that Clarence would turn out to be a... monster... a demon of some sort, as even Null thought he was, all I found was a man who was... used.

The fate of your lover, as tragic as it was, was due to his own actions... and while the deaths of those people in the camp... or later at the hands of those assassins are not directly your fault... *he paused suddenly... leaning upon the table*

I cannot... in all honesty say... that you did anything wrong, de Foye... You may have the worst eye for people in this city... but you never did nothing wrong...

Mister Clarence Mead:

[He opens his mouth, but catches himself, waiting for his chance to respond.]

Mister Leopold Sobol:

 ... Please, speak Clarence...

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

[He looks to Charlotte.] If you're finished, Leopold; I'll give the floor to the seat of Velstra first for any questions or clarifications she may have.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

Ah... yes... my apologies.

Velstra Courtier Charlotte Royer:

"I'd like to hear what de Foye has to say. I believe I know what I need to know, presently." [She remembers to blink.]

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

[A nod.] I have one question before you begin.

The 'man' you recieved aid from... was a Bugbear?  And following that interaction...agreement...whatever you wish to call it... a great deal of terrible things happened?

Did I hear that right?

Mister Leopold Sobol:

Dolbrick was human

Mister Clarence Mead:

[He nods.]  I only work with humans.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

However, one of the assassins was a Bugbear

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

I understand now.

Mister Clarence Mead:

Thank you. So, this is a bit unique in that I was completely unaware of these dealings, being in a mandolin at the time. It was like falling asleep, and then waking up with a man over me.

Hiring a monster as an assassin was not in any contract I signed, and I am very displeased that Rolbrick and Elvur behaved so unprofessionally.

I was very explicit, in writing, that everything would be perfectly legal.  I will note as well that I am told that Joseph Null joined House Glitt at a later time?  I had no knowledge of any of this.  At the time of the Writ, he had fled the Blackjacks and was hiding in Ticker Square.

So the last I knew, I was seeking legal redress against a man we all agree was a murderer, using legal methods in Ticker Square.
Leobol here has already agreed that i have broken no statue of the King's Law.

However I am here to continue any explanation asked out of good faith, as I am a proud citizen of the Peerage Ward.
I would suggest that, in the end, Leopold and I are both victims.
We have both been victimized by these foul tricksters who have, I'm told, been brought to justice at sword-point.

Any action that they took that was illegal deserved full punishment.  However, to vaguely assign blame to me for what they did, when I could not possibly have been aware, would have a dangerous precedent.

Would Joseph Null's misbehaviour render the Captain of the Blackjacks responsible for murder?  Certainly not.  Our Blackjacks are doing a fantastic job of protecting the citizenry.

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

Your father, Clarence?  Was he a citizen of our Ward?

Mister Clarence Mead:

Yes, a fine one.  Waldric de Foye, a great merchant.
I am merely a shadow of his talent.  He and his son Dervik were taken by Canal Crawlers...

I am to live up to his name, and I honor his memory by maintaining the de Foye name.

I would suggest, as well, that this paladin is a hero for defending the good people of our Ward from Rolbrick and Elvur's machinations.

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

Mn.  I will be frank.  Laws are secondary to our sacred traditions.  The High Archivist, himself, has decreed such.  And our most sacred tradition is to effectively steward this ring to greatness, safety... prosperity... through service to our King.

Mister Clarence Mead:

 [Nods, falling silent.]

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

Is there anything more that needs to be said or stated?  Any further questions from these present Retainers of the Great Houses?

You've been silent. [He looks to Raphael.]

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

[Jumps a bit] Oh! Yes, I've been writing, trying to understand. Reflect, you know?

Mister Clarence Mead:

[Raises a finger slightly.]  I would make one final statement before we conclude, whenever that may be.

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

..Mhm.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

And I would wish a closing statement as well... given the chance.

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

I've no concern, if House Velstra does not.

Courtier Charlotte Royer:

 "None at all."

Mister Clarence Mead

[He motions quietly for Leopold to go first, if he chooses.]

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

Clarence first, then.

Mister Clarence Mead:

Ah, very well.

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

Uhm, no. I think I understand it all perfectly clear.

Mister  Leopold Sobol:

*he nodded a bit*

Clarence de Foye:

We have agreed that no specific law has been broken, but I take under advisement the wisdom of our honorable judge from House Glitt.  We must not just follow the law as written, but must strive to be good stewards.

As such, the crux of Leoold's argument against me is one of supposed negligence.

Fair? [He waits for a quick answer before proceeding]

Mister Leopold Sobol:

 ... Yes

Mister Clarence Mead:

A man is negligence when he does not know what he ought to, or does not do what he ought to.  That would be a fair standard.  A parent who forgets to feed their children is negligent.

In this case, however, I was a captive.  I was trapped in the mandolin, and I could not possibly escape.  Only Elvur could let me out, and he did not.

Further, I was not even awake - conscious.  I fell asleep as I entered, and woke up in our Ward.  So there is no possible way I could have known anything that happened, which makes negligence impossible.  Instead, I was a prisoner and a victim of foul agents who were stopped by this hero.  Thank you.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

I shall be brief...

Clarence is indeed correct, however the actions of Elvur and the other assassins came after that fateful day in the Lumber Camp. A deeper, longer problem. A slow and steady decay which, sadly, reminds me much of the state of our city... However... if Clarence de Foye did granted the responsibility of managing the camp to his Lover... and chose not to look deeper into those affairs... there are two options...

Firstly, that indeed, a merchant is busy. One does not always own just a single camp, or a single business, and House De Foye held numerous properties.

And as such, he needs handlers to manage all of these properties... and being a merchant he does not look at anything but profits... how much coin came in... and whether more might come in, in the future...

Or, secondly, he could take a keener interest in these affairs, but chooses not to... Thus my claim that Clarence might had been Negligent in his duties...

Mister Clarence Mead:

With respect, that is an impossible vague standard for any man to defend against.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

But, I leave this final judgment in the hands of the Council...

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

If there is no other evidence, I would ask the House of Velstra and the Scribe to confer privately.

Courtier Charlotte Royer:

"Sensible, I believe."

Mister Clarence Mead:

[He nods.]  Thank you for your time and consideration, honored judges.

We take a moment to confirm upon what has been brought up and otherwise agree upon a verdict.

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

Upon the review of the details presented here today, we have concluded that Clarence de Foye has not broken any of the King's Laws directly, and was not aware of any laws being broken on his behalf. However-

The confidence of this Council in the ability of Clarence de Foye to effectively administer his affairs is greatly shaken.  That such an occurrence proceeded without his knowing, regardless of the circumstances, is troubling, to say the least.

Mister Clarence Mead:

[He bows his head slightly.]

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

At this point, we but ask the Archivists to execute a full audit of Clarence de Foye's holdings and expenses to determine if he is capable of wielding the power and influence his wealth so affords him.

Mister Clarence Mead:

I will fully and eagerly surrender any and all records for audit, for the service of our Ward and our King.

Glitt Retainer  Edwyn Harclay:

Should Clarence de Foye refuse such an audit, more drastic measures will be taken.  House Velstra, have you anything to add?

Courtier Charlotte Royer:

"I don't believe so, no. I'm sure it'll just be a formality; this isn't the sort of mistake one makes twice, no?"

Mister Clarence Mead:

[He nods in agreement.]

Mister Leopold Sobol:

*He nodded a bit*

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

We will see.  I am eager to see the Archivists assessment of the state of the Camp.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

I am... afraid the Camp has since been overrun by the Mongrelmen, Retainer. That Lumber Camp, at least.

Mister Clarence Mead:

What?!

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

[He waves a hand.] I believe we are concluded, then--

Mister Leopold Sobol:

The Survivors from the Camp told us such. The Camp had only a single guard in it.

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

[Blinks at this] A single guard in the middle of Mongrelwoods?

Mister Clarence Mead:

That is outrageous.  Why were there not more?

Mister Leopold Sobol:

... According to the Survivor, before he was killed by the Bugbear, it was in an effort to cut costs...

Glitt Retainer  Edwyn Harclay:

I'm certain the Audit will Confirm or Disprove any such accusation.

Mister Leopold Sobol:

See... Clarence...

Clarence Mead:

Yes.  [He grits his teeth in frustration.]  I would like to know as well.  A full audit, then.  Thank you, honored judges, for your fair and just verdict in service to the King.

Glitt Retainer Edwyn Harclay:

Let us hope better judgement was shown. [A nod.]

Mister Clarence Mead:

I will go announce my full desire to participate, to honor the King's Law and the traditions that bind us all.

Glitt Retainer  Edwyn Harclay:

... How I yearn for your statement. Do be well, all.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Clarence Mead”
The honorable Retainers of House Velstra Charlotte Royer and Raphael Fidelio and the honorable Retainer Edwyn Harclay have all presided over my trial at the Council of Peers. I have been found innocent of all charges brought by the paladin Leobol.

I will be voluntarily offering all documentation regarding my dealings to the Royal Archives for a complete audit. The King's Law has been served this day, and justice has been provided from the wisdom of our wonderful Houses. May the Peerage thrive forever!

AN  - A Noxious Storm and Trial of the King's Ninety-Ninth.

A dangerous and deadly trial by combat is fought in the King's Commons for glory and renown by the King's graces.

-- The sky above His Majesty's Common begins to darken. A crimson pallor enshrouds the dark clouds above, and a sinister red fog thickens across the cobblestones. A foul omen, to be sure... --

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Royal Herald”
Listen now, ye ungrateful villains and serfs of the 99th Ring. His Majesty sees fit to bestow upon you the grand leavings of the royal feast - resplendent in their glory, wondrous in their aspect. But it is not a mere tithe of sport that He demands of you this time, you avaricious creatures...

You whomst dares to step now into the arena of this dark dispensary shall be SMOTE TO CINDERS upon your defeat on the sacred ground of His Majesty's common. Let only the most valiant and brave present themselves for the King's trial this day. Go, now, and feast!

People of Ring 99! Soon His Majesty`s gifts shall rain down upon. Will you join in glad and righteous combat, to determine who shall be worthy of them? Will you test your friends and foes? - Recall that to slay or murder or drag away in chains those who oppose you during such noble contest is to earn the vast displeasure of the Royal Court!

-- A ferocious storm rages above the skies of the King's Common, threatening wrath of ruination to any unfortunate gallant who is bested in the contest. The dispensary, however, glows brighter than ever before - a gleaming promise of bountiful reward... --

-- An ominous red cloud circles in the sky above the King's Common - crackling with negative energy, anathema to mortal life. --

-- As unfortunate gallants succumb to their wounds in the ferocious battle for the dispensary, the negative cloud of energy from above descends with a threatening aura... --

-- As was promised by the dire portent of the Herald, horrific bursts of dark energy descend from the skies above - devouring the spiritual essence of those who were brave (or foolish) enough to sally forth into the dark competition. --

-- The storm's caprice begins to dissipate. Those unfortunates still left alive may yet have an opportunity to flee the horrific culling. --

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Royal Herald”
Does none among you insipid, feeble mortals dare to contest the triumph of Langdon, whisperer of shadows and shades? Lay him low, and reap the rewards of His Majesty's favour - or else, perish, and be the tinder that stokes the flame of another's glory...

-- With a horrifying crackle of dark energy, the malevolent clouds life-stealing tendrils descend once again... --

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Royal Herald”
And so it ends. The court does witness Bjarney of House Nephezar as the victor of this terrible tournament. The sky's wrath now abates, and you may scurry back to your holes to fester and fear... And yet prove yourselves worthy once more of His Majesty's favour, as she has.

Among the Dead lie three retainers of note:

A - Retainer Allard Barclay, Changelin Burner of House Redwheat
B - Heir-Apparent Mercer Halemont
C - Retainer Crowfeather of Sunpurse

As well, Ludolf, a Selfproclaimed Torc, and an unknown woman are seen among the dead.

AO  - An Odious Threat Ended, the Death of Beeble.

“Domina Gaia, with the help of Tarn, Marked by Three of His-Her Grace, spotted and destroyed the thing as it begged.” - of the local Goblin Beeble of some infamy for terrorizing people that might have passed through the King's commons - a service done.

AP  - A Proclamation from the Royal Huntsman.

Quote from: City Whisper by Royal Huntsmaster Boris Grick
To whomever it was that left this winged changeling freak within my hall - a worthy prize! I shall mount its disgusting head and wings upon my wall, as a lesson for all of their filthy kind.

Speaking of which... I have heard tell of elves reverting to their true nature and declaring war. The archives hold tales of an era long past, where the elves served willingly as servants of the Sibiliant Empire and fought against our King! Those times have returned it seems.

We tolerated their vile habits and ways - their forked tongues, their habit of growing scales, their agelessness, their tendency to bleed green as lizards do instead of red like leal subjects of the King! No more!

Long live the King! Death to traitors, lizards, changelings and elves - but I repeat myself. Ha!

AQ  - A Qualified Member of the Worshipful Guild of Slayers makes Announcement.

Quote from: ”City Whisper by Knecht o' Kills”
Listen up people throughout the rings! For the Worshipful Guild of Slayers has added another open Writ to the wall.

For ignoring guild standards and performing the art of murder unlicensed by the Guild, the man known as Kastian is hereby cast out. His name added to the wall. Until the time he has paid 50.000 for his audacity.

Until then I will personally reward anyone who brings me his head with a fine blade from my own collection.

AR - A Recount of the Death of Censor Wentworth 'Beastbane' Baxter during the Assault of the Peerage by the Ghylherd.

By the Gallows of the Peerage, two hanging corpses, one more creature than man. By the bridge proper, the Piked head of a horror from the woods.

What results in many deaths of the Ghylherd, also finds the death of Nephezar Censor Wentworth 'Beastbane'.

"Retelling by Raphael Fidelio, Retainer of Velstra, and Gawen MacRaith servant of the Lady in Waiting."

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

I am happy to be alive, in truth. A Manticore attempted to make me a pin-cushion.

Myself:

Oh? That sounds dreadful!

Velstra Rerainer Raphael Fidelio:

One of the Ghyl was quite adept at changing it's shape.

Gawen MacRaith:

Yes, Retainer Raphael was present for the assault. And may have something to add as well to the tale.

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

I went down in a heap of quills. Agony like you would not believe.[Shudders]

Myself:

That sounds terrible

Gawen MacRaith:

The blur did help me, somewhat.

Raphael Fidelio:

It was. Lucky for all of us, Beastbane chose to throw himself infront of the incoming horde.

Myself:

They made assault of the Peerage then?

Gawen MacRaith:

Just so. They assaulted the Peerage after the hanging of one of the Ghylheard. I believe House Orza had brought it in as a prize. They piked a man named 'The Man-Mountain' Rhodes up next to our gallows, and next to the piked corpse of the Ghylherd.

Raphael Fidelio:

Yes, I have been meaning to find out what that fellow did.

Gawen MacRaith:

It was as myself and Elene returned from the 97th that we first came upon the Herd then. Dozens strong. Too many, I fear, to fight alone. So we retreated to the Peerage. They were not far behind us. Following from the Ponds A retainer of Glitt, guarding the gate, was slain immediately.

Others rallied to the defence, and we did prevail without further loss of life. Some forty of them fell. Victory at the gates of the Peerage. Then a Ghylherd champion issued a challenge. A taunt. It threw a boulder, oozing corruption and blood, onto our auld bridge.

It began to seep crimson corruption into the canal. Therefore, I smote it with my hammer, calling 'pon the Lady. The Beastbane, two retainers of Nephezar whose name escape me. Roland, perhaps? Regardless, they and others resolved to march out and meet them

Ah and the Cantor, Bjarney. She was present also We fought a protracted battle in the Ponds. Until they fled to their profane Grove. We followed, of course. What followed was a bloody, terrible battle... Their skinchanger took the form of a terrible Manticore, pelting all with wickedly sharp barbs. Another hurled boulders the size of men. Crushed many underneath.

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

Now he decorates.

Gawen MacRaith:

And their warrior fought bare fisted, with claws most malicious. Yes ... there is the boulder hurler, I do believe

Velstra Retainer Raphael Fidelio:

I had Elene cut it's head off, and then I piked it myself. Disgusting work, honestly. My gloves regret it.

Gawen MacRaith:

Regardless! I cannot tell you much of the battle. I had charged their warlock, and earned the attention of the three. I was brought low. Trampled into the mud. I am told the Beastbane followed suit, charging the three, and was slain. Though not before cutting the head off the warlock. Succeeding where I failed. The battle was won. Though hard won. Their three champions - the warlock, the skinchanger, and the savage mauler - all dead

We marched on to the source of their power then. A great and terrible stone, overlooking a blood soaked altar. We passed ...Mounds of corpses. Disfigured, gnawed upon, discarded. Bled dry. On our march to this stone. It had been fed well by the Ghylherd. There was a sentience within ... a darkness.

Something they sought to awaken, I believe. A nascent Dark God. Fortunately The Lady and her Errant was with us, however! With earnest prayer and faith sincere- The altar was consecrated, the stone destroyed.

AS - A Sad Night, the Death of Retainer Edwyn Harclay.

Retainer Harclay of Glitt lies dead upon the cold cobbles of the outer ring of the Peerage, upon this cold and dark night. Three are collected below the gallows as I arrive upon the sight of much dissatisfaction. A collection of the Trail of 'Mother, Sister and Brother' proceeds with the Royal Court Wizard ruling upon the Necromancers.

The Artist paints her last.

”Minutes of the Trail of Mother, Sister, and Brother”
Lt. Miriam Fontaine

“Brother was captured by Isabela near an hour ago now. She stated he was leading a skeleton around in the sewers. I was in a meeting with Edwyn, when she called for him to meet her here, at the gallows, and accused him of necromancy. Edwyn started an interview, but it was cut short quickly, when the one in the middle, Mother, attacked, leading an animated half-orc.

Harclay gave chase, and a soft search and hunt began in the sewers. And in turn, Kentin and the court wizard, in separate actions, arrested these three. Unclear to me how exactly Edwyn died. Let's see what they say.”

Mother Eska:

“I had gone to save my Son... though I failed and lost consciousness. When I awoke I was within a passage of the drips beneath us. There with the daugher o' art, was the Retainer Harclay. Barely before words could be shared, the Court Wizard approached and asked for clemency with the Retainer's Life.

Then... perhaps I am overly fatigued, I do not recall what specifically was said... but battle was joined. Until at last an ultimatum was declared, with Harclay's life on the line. If the Court Wizard did not desists, the man would die.

And he did. He did die, for the battle did not stop. Until at last the Daughter fled, and the Wizard gave chase. Leaving me alone with the deceased. Oh... the poor fool... to die so young?”

I am a caring mother, I do not pretend to understand the motives or ambitions of my children. Though I love them all the same...

Royal Wizard Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

“Her testimony echoes my own; though I confess to some guilt, had I more than killing spells and searing syllables burning in my mind, and 'pon my tongue... I would have heeded the threat 'pon the fallen man's life. And he would not be dead. I confess then, that I bare some fault in that regard. Yet, I am not his murderer.

The third, the poet and the artist. Stand, if you are able. Speak your piece.”

Sister, the Artist:

“So many words could be spoken. About you. About me. About the fallen and the soon-to-be. But words were never enough. Do you want the truth?

Royal Wizard Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

“The truth is my sole interest.”

Sister, the Artist:

“Then bring me a canvas. You will kill me, that I have no doubt. I wish to make one... last... painting.”

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

 ...Fetch a canvas then.

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras: ... From where?

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

There is power and worth in the dead man's hand; and the gallows has seen more wicked strung with greater favors. Surely, in all this splendor, there is paper enough?

Mother Eska:

I say the ground beneath her bowels shall make a fine enough canvas, when she hangs.

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras:

Archivist?

Myself:

Ah... let me check a few locations then.

I go to gather one from the Toy folly trader and return with a small Canvas

Isabela Galdera:

I always thought doing the right thing would be easy but I couldn't bring myself to do justice. I called on Retainer Harclay because I knew he could do it.

While Retainer Harclay was asking him his name, the woman with the staff attacked us here, with some... orc monster... but that's aside.

 Sister, the Artist:

*She steps forward slowly, standing before the blank canvas. A hand reaches out to the tip of Elene's spear. Slowly, non-threatening.*

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII: Work your canvas.

Isabela Galdera:

If justice is to be dispensed upon the man, can I please do it? For Harclay.

Elene Tzehiir:

*she allows the movement, though the spear-point follows Yasia closely*

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

...If it is to be dispensed, girl, then your hand will be that which strikes his head clean.

Isabela Galdera:

I should've just had the guts to do it.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

But it hath naught been dispensed.

Sister, the Artist:

*She moves the spear tip to her shoulder and jams it in, crying out in pain.*

Isabela Galdera:

They're necromancers who attacked a retainer here infront of the ward with undead. Surely, court wizard, there's no other judgment...

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[The Seer leans ragged upon his thrumming staff, watching with unblinking and rapt attention... a rarity for his ever-wand'ring eyes.]

Kentin Card:

*looks at Isabela* They all attacked?

Isabela Galdera:

Well, I dragged that man here. After fighting him and his skeleton warrior.

Sister, the Artist:

*A hand moves to the bleeding wound, comming out red. It then moves to the canvas, and, using her life essence as paint... she begins her work.*

Kentin Card:

Sounds like you already had the man in custody.....for using 'esoteric' magics that the Court Wizard has forgiven.

Isabela Galdera:

The woman with the staff attacked us here...

Mother Eska:

I had come only to save my son.. my poor boy..

Kentin Card:

I shouldn't say forgiven....refused to pass judgement over?

Isabela Galdera:

They're literally necromancers.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Once canvas hath dried, I will judge you, artist.  Paint and well.

Kentin Card:

I care more that he's a bandit.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

...That is enough from the rest of you. We shall settle these other matters after this woman.

Kentin Card:

*holds up a hand* Apologies Court Wizard.

Sister, the Artist:

*She works quickly, the blood moving across the canvas seemingly half of its own accord. A scene takes shape even as she pales from the blood loss. Edwyn, fallen in a pool of blood, prostate before a broken statue of the king, caught in a rusty cage. His hand loose around his bent sword. And then, she begins to write words, all over...

Tchun... Tchun... Tchun. Tchun. Tchun. TCHUN. Tchun. TCHUN. Tchun... Tchun.* There is no truth... only art, only the truth of blood, of beating hearts swelling with pride, with lust, with vengence.

Royal Wizard Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Ah.

Sister, the Artist:

*She falls to the ground, too weak to stand.*

I take a number of steps back, well recognising the name from tales of past!

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[His eyes widen slightly, and then one hand ducks to his side for a wand..] That is that, then. Would that things could have played out by another wright's script...! by your own art, then.  I
think it prudent.

With a number of magical artifacts, Royal Wizard Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII executes the Artist.

Sister, the Artist:

Myself: Be wary Court Wizard!

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[He twirls a wand of blackest magic, withering her flesh from bone with crimson ray]

Myself:

Tchun madnees is recorded well to be... contagious in some forms!

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII

...The murderer of Harclay is gone from this world; and now we have the reason for't.

Nephezar Censor Bernard:

[He mutters rather quietly] Finally...

Elene Tzehiir:

Good. *the word spat out, mirthlessly*

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

 Oh dear..

Diego Saa'lazaar:

Harclay....

Elene Tzehiir:

Now, what is to be done of these two?

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[A look of profound disgust passes over his ordinarily impassive visage as he glimpses the canvas..]

Mother Eska:

[She turns from the dead woman, mourning her 'daughter' in the shoulder of Vick. Choked weeping consumes her..]

Orza Retainer Redmond Whistler:

I believe the law is quite clear as to what is to become of necromancers.

Royal Wizard Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

I believe the law hath need of proof.  Burdensome, is the law.

Elene Tzehiir:

Come forth, those who would speak on their guilt.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

I have punished Harclay's killer; we must naught shed more errant blood, 'til this canvas is gone from here.

-- The painting remains, dripping in her last lifeblood. A painting of a vile murder, the obscenity of it itself vandalized. "TCHUN. TCHUN...". It sits, untouched. --

Lt. Miriam Fontaine: The canvas - do you fear it, Court Wizard--

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

I do.

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras:

Spoils of the dead, be sent to House Glitt, may the recoup what is lost in the physical

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

...There are worse fates than the gallows.

[The Wizard's countenance grows chill and dire.]

Eska.  Come and collect your new canvas.

Isabela Galdera:

[Glares hatefully toward Vick.] I should've killed you down in the drips. I shouldn't have been courteous to you. I shouldn't have tried to give you a chance. Look what happened?

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[Raises one thin hand..] Silence, silence and ease.

Mother Eska:

[She pulls away.. leaning up on the staff. She stares with horror at the canvas, looking to Lykaon as though he would butcher a babe infront of her.]

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Whatever horror lurks in their breasts, it is a lesser one than that which is banished now.  It is writ by wiser men -- that every thing has its purpose, and a purpose there is for every thing. And I hath a /purpose in mind/ for these two. One which we can all find agreeable.

House Nephezar Censor Bernard:

A purpose for necromancers...

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

But of course.

Mother Eska:

Y-you.. would have me hold this curse?

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

What purpose have you in mind?

Isabela Galdera:

You're sparing necromancers who killed a retainer of the ward for us all to see...

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Collect your canvas, Eska.  For I would have you /deliver/ it.

Diego Saa'lazaar:

Necromancers spit upon Heaven's Heart.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

I fear I slew the murderer, girl. These two stood aside for that battle.

-- The blood soaks black into the canvas, the image growing blurred, ruined... --

Isabela Galdera:

These two are far from innocent...

Elene Tzehiir:

And yet, their participation is beyond dispute, Court Wizard.

Isabela Galdera:

She brought an undead orc here and...

-- And in the splotches, an image emerges... --

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

And so I will sentence them accordingly.

Mother Eska:

[She reaches down, tenatively and with much apprehension...]

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

The King HIMSELF!

Elene Tzehiir:

Name your purpose, that we may discern the justice of your sentence.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[He suddenly howls, indignant] YOUR KING. Hath invested the power to judge these matters arcane in /me/. I ask you then to trust my judgement. You will take this canvas, Eska.

Mother Eska:

[She touches the image.. weeping.]

: -- A feint, nearly humanoid figure, in the ruined splotches of blood... --

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

...You will deliver it to the Wayward. And so it's curse will winnow their souls away.  Is this naught agreeable, Retainers? Will you simply walk away like fools, whilst I solve /all/ your problems for you?

Myself: I feel that is extreme even for the Wayward...

Isabela Galdera:

You're not solving anything!

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras:

[sighs] By the will of our King, we obey

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

You truly believe adding the affliction of Tchun to those madmen will improve things?

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Deliver this Canvas, and you and your son will walk free. I believe that I know two things... That the madness of this curse is unending and drives men to murder their brothers. And that an elven warband is in isolation in the Rings, now. Primed for kinslaying.

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras:

By the King's will, he will leave, but not whole. Confess boy, did you rob that man [points to Kentin]

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

I ask you to adhere to my wisdom; and to curse my folly, should all come to ruin.

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

Know only that House Orza spoke out against this ruling- and pray that it goes as well as you believe.

Myself:

It may well work, but... such a terrible curse, even for the worst of enemies.

Sunpurse RetainerSylar Eras:

Bannerhouse Sunpurse joins being against the ruling, also

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

I am but a flawed and arrogant man; yet I think my hubris greater action than voting in a dismal chamber ever shall be.You shall not destroy your enemies by casting parchment at them. [A small smile] ...we shall see if that holds for canvas.

Mother Eska:

Oh.. I see.. My daughter.. oh my poor daughter.. she's here with me now forever.

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

May I suggest but one thing-

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

You may.

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

You keep her companion as collateral. There is nothing binding her from failing to deliver.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Surely there is...For naught in the Guild of Bones, nor in the high houses Five... Is there /any place/ in the 99th she can escape me. Hie thee to all the hills, here to the fifty-fifth.. yet, Lykaon shall find you there! And who will shepherd the boy? His mind is clearly addled.  Dare you risk taking on his affliction?

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

He is afflicted by Tchun?

Mother Eska:

For my precious son I will deliver your message.. this beautiful image my daughter has so given..

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

[A suddenly wary look around, sipping a vial] I know naught, but by his own admission he hath heard "whispers".Let us send these two out, by the gods, now! And deliberate after, yes?  Go.

Orza Retainer Redmond  Whistler:

I will work with the Temple of the Nine to shepard the boy, if need be.

Mothr Eska:

Come, my boy..

 Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

My own brother was a necromancer, 'ere I slew him.

Mother  Eska:

It's okay.. we just need to deliver a painting.

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras:

Hold, are you a thief boy, yes or no?

Orza Retainer Redmond Whistler:

*looks to Lyakon*Your ruling, magus. Does the boy walk free or go into the care of myself and the Temple of the Nine?

Sunpurse Retainer Sylar Eras:

Begone then, by the will of our King, leave our sight and never be seen again.

-- Rumor spreads of an execution in the peerage ward. A tchunite and necromancer slain... but not before the creation of a last painting. A last masterpiece in lifeblood, vandalized with one word, again and again... "Tchun." --

Elene Tzehiir:

Court Wizard, you should have claimed a hand from the boy, and the tongue from the woman.

Royal Wizard Lykaon Konphas VII:

Perhaps so.  I said from the start, however. I was only here for the murderer.

-- It is said the painting was given over to her two allies, who were allowed to leave with the gruesome artifact. --

Quote from: ”The whispery voice of Censor Bernard is heard as you receive a message”
This is Censor Bernard of House Nephezar. Let it be known that the release of two necromancers is a stain upon all the Peerage. May God have mercy on you all...

Afterwards, the Body of the Artist, through protective blessings and magics, is brought to Castle Orza and burnt.
