Barney Bolger, Priest of Old Grandfather

Barney Bolger lost everything in the Sibilant invasion of Ticker Square. Ringbreaker's razing of the Square claimed his brother's life, along with Barney's home and livelihood. Despondent, unsure of what to do with his life and utterly disillusioned with Ticker Square, he took to drinking and moping in Pauper Ponds. Someone had to be held responsible for this. Someone ought to pay. But who? A priest of Old Grandfather provided him with an answer, as well as the means to enact his vengeance. The Merchant's Guild owed Old Grandfather, and the people of Ticker Square paid the price for their sacrilege.  Barney would topple the system or die trying. He returned to Ticker Square as a priest of 'Phanax' (I cross-classed in Bluff and took a Skill Focus) and joined the Boundary Men-- the first of many organizations where he could blend in with the rest. Boundary Men (I was the only one) Blackjacks (fun running with you guys) Accountants (taken from y'all too soon.)

Deep cover was an interesting experience. Barney was meant to be a bit of buffoon publicly who only really showed his true colors behind closed doors. I had a lot of fun talking faith and trying to push the Grandfather dogma under the veneer of Phanax...encouraging people to tell me their desires and what they'd be willing to do to see them secured. This sort of slow corruption meant less big preaching in the Square and more one-on-one interactions, and while it didn't always pay dividends, it was always rewarding. Kanna Vauntz and Appolonia Waters were the most entertaining of these, as the former pushed a very Old Grandfather version of Phanax as time went on and the latter would go on to aid in the murder of Priscilla Klink, as revenge for not giving her the time of day.

In the end, Barney accomplished his goal--Ticker Square was delivered to the Copper Torc, and the Merchant's Guild was shattered. I did find some difficulty in finding out what to do next, however. No one really came after me hard the way I was expecting until very recently, and I'm not sure why. Certainly there was enough reason to suspect me, and the reward for slaying Guildmistress Klink was a relic that required me to have the Knave mask on me at all times, but...it just didn't happen. I'm not sure if that was because people didn't care to take a run at me because of a general disinterest in the fate of Ticker Square, or if I was a bad Knave because I wasn't mugging people 24/7 or both.

Normally I would try and set up my screenshots in a nice structured way but the forum ate my formatting and I'm annoyed at that, so I'll link you to the album, arranged roughly in order. Thanks to everyone I played with/against/etc and see y'all around.

You were a good Knave as far as I am concerned. I also enjoyed our conversations/disagreements/sullen glances about faith-related matters. Finally, since I'm the first to reply, I'm going to say: I KNEW IT. :)

Well done!

Good knave! Honestly, I didn't want to hunt him down as I never personally saw his involvement in the murder or anything of the sort. I knew you were a knave oocly, but didn't want that to seep into IC, so never took action.

Sorry to see you go, hope you have fun on your next :)

Barney Bolger!

First time meeting the character was him beating Beauxregard Winespill's ass outside the open door for giving some dude drugs that made him almost die. Being escorted to the Door by my sunpurse boi, and all the sudden poor Beauxregard's taking several slaps to the head with a club and squealing like a little girl. That was such a neat thing to walk in on, and then him dragging him to the doorkeeper. Nice touch.

The other moment that stands out to me is Barney trying to shake out some coin from Lucretia after Fata Novem for the Blackjacks. I remember feeling the pressure from the exchange, but it was difficult to really reciprocate right after a big event like that.

We didn't interact much, but for IC reasons.  Well done!

Interactions were not that many but from a distance the Bolger was brilliant. Will be missed.
