[A poem for Estellise.]

Estie,

I wrote a poem for you after our earlier talk about poetry. It's been some time since I've made an attempt like this, but I'm very happy with the result.

The little desert fox, he goes
Galumphing o'er the plains!
He sneaks along to find his prey
The little bird and her eggs!

The desert fox hides in the brush
His foeman passes him by!
No melek, kobold, goblin-band
Shall make a fennec pie!

A little fox must be so deft
If he shall earn his keep!
He has so many miles to go
Before it's safe to sleep.

But when the night is dark and still
The fox, he is alone.
"Where can I find me a friend,
That I might share my home?"

It always makes me smile to see the little foxes trotting across the sand. With their little footsteps! I hope it makes you happy too. Please send me your thoughts, and any other works of yours that you might like me to read.

Dear Hypatia,

I enjoyed your poem a lot. Small animals are my favorite, admittedly. And your poem is extremely evocative and makes me wish I could see and pet this fox.

I wanted to write you something in turn and then I recalled that I was rather overwhelmed when I first came to the Well by the dune mice that dwell all over.

Here is a poem I wrote about one. I wished to challenge myself to write in a similar style, so I hope you enjoy that too.

In sands of gold, a clever mouse
With fur as soft as whispered rhyme
It scurries low, light, and dainty
In realms where giants bide their time

With tiny paws, it weaves its path
Through dunes that rise like mountains grand
A nimble heart and fearless spirit
In this vast sea of endless sand

Though small in frame, its wisdom vast
A master of the arid maze
With grace, it dances on the plains
In moonlit, starry, desert haze

So let us learn from this small friend
Whose size belies its strength and wits
In life's grand tapestry, we find
That greatness comes in many bits
