Hanged Heron: Board Tax Exemption

Though it might be difficult to specifically make the Heron job board exempt from Ephian taxes, I think there would be a few meta benefits to doing so:

Encourages people to visit the Creep.
The morally grey adventurer might feel there is a little more benefit to joining criminals (within reason) on board quests if there is slightly more reward, this way we might see more people bounce between the two locations.

It may feel better to play a criminal.
There is already quite a few drawbacks to being an exiled criminal, such as: increased cost to making bellows, increased danger to making bellows and existing, etc. A tax exemption would make living as an exile feel a bit better.

It would feel less weird.
So, in practice, it likely makes sense that taxes would effect the board in the Heron, but that said, it also feels like it goes against the spirit of what the Creep is: Anti-establishment.

Also, just wanted to add--

Quote"the tax is cut from the pay that whomever is paying would pay you with"
~ Bearic

Despite that making complete sense to me, I just wanted to point out what I thought might be benefits making exemptions to the Heron.

I think it'd be weird for everyone to pop down to the Creep, grab the contract, then come back up and do it for 17% more money. It makes sense what you are saying, but this would be the inevitable result for even hub loyalists to send someone down to get the "black market" tax dodging contract. Maybe it could be part of some larger overhaul in the future, where taxes are not simply subtracted from whatever you do with no interactions on your part and require PCs to collect said taxes, but at currently it would be a very bad idea to allow boards outside the Well to dodge the taxes.

I actually thought this was how the heron board worked already and could fathom no discernible reason otherwise to use the heron board unless youre actively not allowed in the well because its location is not great

I do think this would happen, but I think it has its own icly consequences. For example, they could make it a minor crime to partake in these types of quests since you're dodging state taxes. Or, for another example, you might be icly viewed poorly (from either people in the well or in the creep) for this sort of thing- either getting kicked out of the Krak as a result or being robbed in the Heron for giving Topsiders preference.

i quite like this idea, and if the counteragument is ''everyone will go to heron'' just make that have consequences IC as it well should!? tax evasion, hanging with enemies of the well, for all i care you can get exiled or fined for it

but it *is* nice to have a reward for risk taking

Too much effort for a very limited return at this stage.
