Tratzell

Race-Traitor, Watcher, Knight of Sanctuary (in his mind).

For Thonas Smashmail I used an Arthurian character as a base whose name I don't recall; one that was inherently evil in his heart, knew this, and sought to rise above it through strict adherence a code. I considered this could be a compelling take to a half-orc.

Though, at least initially, his reasoning was more pragmatic; The orcs around him in his old life panicked and ate each other alive almost entirely before the Dread could. He was able to reason enough that the age of orcs was over. Their gods were failures. He had to look to his other half, if he was to survive.

Through much of his early life he clung really, really hard to trying to blend into the human-dominated culture of Sanctuary and bringing himself up to their expectations while trying to be as subdued as possible to avoid slipping. I fashioned him as a character who would be learning things throughout his entire existence; his intelligence from the beginning was higher than his human-relevant knowledge would show him to be. I occasionally made him a little too savvy as a result of this, though I'd like to think it never came without him making bad choices and getting punished for it first.

It took him a while to become a recruit, as he had to learn to write; a few interactions with helpful PCs and some weeks later, he was considered to have passed this milestone just enough. He would gradually continue to improve in a way that I hope others came to notice.

For a while, he fashioned himself entirely as an attack dog who closely followed orders without making too much noise. A turning point was the raid on the Rosethorn camp, where a phantasmal killer put him out early. He had to sit around helpless as people he knew, weaker races though they may be, fought and died. While it came from a pragmatic origin, his faith in Helm was legitimate enough, and stirred something inside of him.

He started caring for Sanctuary, and valuing his own life a great deal less to try and meet standards of victory that anyone could see were impossible. This would prove his downfall, as he refused to compromise against overwhelming odds when the stakes were high enough.

Inspectors Abraham Farford and Flint had a great deal of influence on how he took to being a Watcher. Farford in particular saw him married to paperwork more than anyone could have expected. He adored Jasmine Ilvastarr, whose manner and songs could grant him a degree of peace from his own orcish thoughts and urges. And too many PCs to name affected him in ways small and big, some of which are best left to be found out in game if at all.

For his bellowing in orcish, I just made something up that sounded vaguely appropriate. However, I consider it to have initially been "A GOOD DAY TO KILL!"; eventually to be replaced by "YOU WILL NOT HAVE THEM!".

He was very much aligned with the red guild, and proudly managed to fine Chand for something silly and get away with it.

Screens:
A way with words.

He experienced strange things.

He got a sweet sword.

Though not the one he really wanted.

I consider him my most successful character thus far, and hope I can commit to the next! Thanks guys.

Thonas was fun to be around and I am sad to have only interacted with him near his end. I had no idea on the story and it makes me like him even more!

Great job Tratzell!
<SkillFocuspwn> no property developers among men only brothers

Blackthorn

I was so sad that Thonas didn't make it back!  Man we fought like hell but that Weapon Master was waay too powerful.  We were so close too!  Thonas will be seriously missed ;(

xXCrystal_Rose

Thonas was a great representation of a half orc. Really splendid.

GhostlyWolf

Thonas will be greatly missed. -Alot- of awesome interactions with Thonas, many quests, Many times slaying enemies of the shield together. Very sad to see him go. I wish Rand's pack wasn't 300lbs in the end there, Couldn't get around or close enough in time. =/ Thonas was one of my favorite characters to hang out with. Great job with him Tratzell.

Great Half-Orc Tratzel.  Thonas shall be missed.  And I shall ask Helm to curse him for taking the easy way out.

Good job. Enjoyed Thonas a lot. Also had fun time with his poor attempts to flirt and impress Jasmine.

Black_TopHat

He was THE LAW. Thonas's sendings always made me laugh, but he was more than just a comedic character, even if he was a tad bit slower then those around him. Always dependable be it for RP, Combat, or what have you, he's gonna really be missed.

Great job Sir!

Reylathi

Well done bro.

Thonas was my favorite half orc PC so far. His Shaggahelm incidents were particularly hilarious. :)
