Numeral Bank Accounts

My suggestion is to allow people to open 10 digit numeral bank accounts, with 10 digit numeral password. In essence, you would go to the banker, and choose the option to make a numeral bank account. You would then enter a 10 digit code, the same the numeral lock in the Univeristy works, and a 10 digit password of the same way. Then, you can withdraw and deposit as normally, but anyone who has the vault number and passcode would be able to access this.

There are many pros to this. You would be able to set up faction based bank accounts, where each member was able to access the account and withdraw or put in gold as deemed neccessary. People can subtly transfer funds to each other, by putting in 500 gold to an account and giving the person the account number and password to recieve their payment. Or you can recieve payments for tasks without ever meeting the person; a boon to secret organizations. You could mug people and steal their bank account information to get their gold. Gold can pass down once a character permadies, instead of all disappearing with him. DM quests can be ran where the reward would be finding this account, and being able to empty it as a reward, instead of the rich NPC keeping all the gold in their house.

There are some major cons, though! Firstly, no one on the DM team may know how to impliment this. Once people's PCs die, they would still know the combination. It may lead to situations where the PCs who do not ICly know the combinations withdraw gold, which would ruin the entire concept. Metagaming would allow people to learn about the combinations. Once someone learns about the account, even ICly, they could withdraw thousands of coin instantly and bankrupt an entire faction, without the PCs being able to do anything. A solution to some of this might be that if you're not an intended recipient, you need a DM to oversee it completely.

I expect this idea to be shot down, but I've been thinking it would be amazingly cool if it was able to work properly.

VanillaPudding

I like the idea in general, but the cons are really pretty bad. Maybe someone more creative than myself can think of ways to make it work.

Dr Dragon

I think it would be an awesome idea if their wherent so many cons maybe make it so in a banner faction you have to be wanded to touch the account?

Cruzel

It could probably be easily added so you would need to 'learn' the password with your PC, either by being 'wanded' with a OOC tool by the PC who owns the account, or by you after you loot them, mug them/however you get it and then use it on yourself.

We could even add a /c add , where it would add the PC to the ones who have withdrawal access to that account provided the person firing the command has access already. This way secret organisations can run and add people to accounts without them ever needing to OOCly wand someone.

This way even if a player knows the account after their PC without access dies, they can't access it, and DMs can be alerted if they try.

Taking it one step further(One pretty hard step tbh) you could even make it efusl based so DMs and players alike could easily manage this system without necessaryily needing to login.

Wanding and chat commands destroy the secrecy part of it, which I thought was a major part of the suggestion. I was expecting that a lot of the accounts made would be one time, or a few time, used accounts where people would recieve pay for tasks or something.

Cruzel

A chat command would not really destroy the secrecy! You would not necessaryily need to be next to the person, and  could almost definitely add a way for it to work with an alias, so a PC would never need to know the real PC name. Sort of like telling the banker "Someone going by this name will be here to pick up this money" etc.

EDIT; Btw I like this suggestion I didn't say so in the first post, but I do!. Abuse isn't really a concern because it can easily be monitored and enforced if proper measures are taken. Overall it is a system that allows for much more RP, plotting, intrigue/etc so I say go for it!

Ommadawn

While I like the idea a lot, the potential for abuse seems pretty high to me. I'm not sure if the DM's could monitor (or would want to add the extra work involved) but what's to stop people using something like this to swap money between their own characters? As long as it couldn't be abused, it would be great.

Cruzel

Adding something to make sure a PC can't twink their gold with bank accounts, would be a cakewalk. Super easy to monitor and enforce.

Oskar Maxon

[Talks about how great this suggestion is]

Semli

Assuming that twinking issues were addressed and the system was pretty secure, I would support this idea.

ScottyB

The chat command to enable access could require the receiving PC to be online and the providing PC to be in the bank (perhaps in a private room, accessible through a private back entrance), thus making self-twinking and post-mortem transfers impossible.

Additional means of receiving access could be acquiring the Account Information item or being granted by a DM.

Combined with a DM EFUSL page listing accounts and PCs with access, and even if someone managed to work around the countermeasures, we could catch them.

Of course, we need someone willing to do this.

Additional desired feature: daily withdrawl limit, only set by the account holder (whoever holds the Account Information item). 0 could be a valid limit, too. (To prevent access to the account except when the holder is expecting someone to make a withdrawl.)
