Off-topic Discussion / Irony
March 21, 2011, 05:44:27 AM
You call that irony?  This is irony.

Quote from: "Oxford English Dictionary"The expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect:
‘Don’t go overboard with the gratitude, ' he rejoined with heavy irony

a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result:
the irony is that I thought he could help me

[count noun] : one of life's little ironies

(also dramatic or tragic irony) a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions is clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character

Suggestions / Sell paper at more merchants
March 14, 2011, 01:41:55 AM
AFAIK writable paper is not available in the Starwood, Docks or (as of late) the Exile's Camp.  This makes acquiring it a bit tricky for characters that won't go into the ziggurat.

Would it be possible to make paper available from other merchants?

In the near future I'll be starting up as a Kossuthan cleric, with an eye to get a Black Flame style cult on the go.

The general concept revolves around two things:

1. Everyone must be tested by fire, repeatedly, in order to become and remain strong and pure.  This goes for willing participants in the Cult's events and the unwilling, who need to be forced to undergo purification.

PvP will be required, but not so much for mugging or FDs (we'll see how it goes >_>).  We want people to be pissed off at us, so that the fire we set in them will make them stronger, then they come back and strengthen us.

As part of this I want to be able to employ various methods to test both willing and unwilling participants in deadly ways.  Anything that can add to that would be super.  Hardship is the path to strength and we'll want to gather support based on this.

2. Arcane magic corrupts.  This method of using magic focusses on the how, rather than the why, which allows power to be gained without the necessary challenges and suffering required to use it wisely, and promotes weakness of spirit.  We hate wizards and they will surely hate us.

If you're interested in trying something that will fit in with this concept let me know.

Suggestions / Make PfE pots less common
May 08, 2009, 07:10:01 PM
My suggestion is just that Protection from Alignment be set up to be less readily available, and unbrewable in the same way as shield and true strike potions.

Having recently played an eb0l wizard, I found that cheap and numerous PfE pots shifts the balance of power in PvP very firmly in the direction of max bab melee types.
Without mind affecting spells, there really isn't much in the old arsenal to give a good chance against a fighter class with decent hp.
I mean, warriors should be afraid of dark magic, right? :D

I'm aware that pots are easily dispelled, but for the sake of 40gp it is no trouble at all to chug as many as might be needed.
Certainly less trouble than using a valuable spell slot for dispels, or using a comparatively expensive dispel wand.
IMO, PfE should be mostly restricted to classes with the necessary casting skills or umd.

When considering this suggestion, bear in mind I'm now playing a non-caster. ;)

Suggestions / Corpse drops
April 28, 2009, 10:00:25 AM
I was thinking it would be useful to have monster spawns drop a corpse once in a while.
Having to bother a DM to get proper use of the animate dead spell is something of a nuisance (probably for the DMs as well).
More necromancy means more pissed off Lathanderites and Kelemvorites too.
Got to be a good thing, right?

Bug Reports / Shambling corpse invisibility bug
April 27, 2009, 10:29:53 PM
The shambling corpse summon doesn't seem to want to attack from invisibility (improved invisibility).
I tried the player tool "control companion" and the dumb corpse still wouldn't do as he was told.

It occured that this might be deliberate to prevent surprise mass summon attacks.
What's the official word?
