General Discussion / Trouble Logging In
April 06, 2013, 12:08:47 AM
Hey guys, I have not been around since gamespy shut down their servers- I've tried direct connecting with efu.us.to and changing my port to 5130- it still claims that it cannot translate the address.

How are you guys logging in?

Off-topic Discussion / Seeking Concept
April 14, 2012, 06:01:59 AM
We're all used to this thread, so I'll skip the elaboration and boil it down real simple. For about a year now, even my more widely known characters havn't really been that fun for me to play. I've tried all sorts of methods to get involved again, and when I have more than two days to play, I generally do alright, but I still am missing out on the extra fun I used to have on the server.

I only have two days to play out of the week, but I still want to play. Most of my characters are kind of stale and suck.

Therefore, I am open to any suggestions for concepts that will be fun even though I won't get to invest a weeks worth of time into it. Whatever you post here I will do. Even if it's retarted. Unless it's -really- retarted. On second thought, better if you PM it, but, whatever.

Oh and if you guys, like, don't suggest anything, and I check this in a week and it's blank, I'll be very disappointed and roll up a lesbian elf with a lisp, so, just be aware of that.

Off-topic Discussion / New Players and Applications
January 08, 2012, 10:45:04 PM
I've noticed that there are quite a few new players of late, and that makes me happy! I've met a few of you guys IG and you're great. Lots of you have been reluctant on the application process however, which is understandable because it seems like a lot of work at first, I remember.

Fortunately, a lot of us are really cool and are more than happy to help you guys out if you ask, so what this is, basically, is an invitation to ask for help with applications, or really anything, if you need it. Personally I have lots of free time on my hands, and like to keep my writing ability practiced, so it's really no problem.

Naturally, all you other guys who are reading this and aren't new players, can put your name down if you're willing to help out as well, which I know most of you are.

You can find me on IRC usually under the name TheBoomKing or TBK. PMs on the forums are welcome as well.

Introductions and Group Management / Bountyhunters
December 07, 2011, 02:16:03 PM
Bountyhunters. They're awesome. I'm also way too busy for an especially complicated concept, but I do want to play again. So here's what I want:

A group of interesting and well-written characters with their own quirks and motivations, who hunt bounties, and don't really get in officially with any particular organization. (I've found that specifically with house aberdenn and house caermyn that the character's get too drawn into the feud- though this is really an IC matter, it's something I'd prefer not to resolve IG, as basically one of the main concepts of the group is not to get involved politically.)

What we'd do:

Hunt Bounties of NPCs and PCs alike. Expect sojourns into the seedier areas of Ymph to be rather regular. Probably quest regularly together, so having the same playing time as the others would be a definate plus.

Ultimate Goal: To have fun and go out in a blaze of glory. I don't really have any secret or especially intrigue-filled plots hidden in the background. What you see is what you get.

Druids probably just wouldn't fit in. A paladin however, could potentially fit in very well- though you'd want to avoid the stereotyped paladin- as I mentioned before, I'd rather have a group of interesting and well written characters than a group of pvp extrordinaires who get together to end other folks concepts and crush quests. Erm, this isn't really a statement as to disliking such paladins that are played that way- just that they probably wouldn't fit in as well. Think Rorschach-type paladin.

Anyway, I think that's it. If any of this sounds appealing at all to you, just comment on here with your playing time, and if a few people show interest, we'll figure out whether or not our characters will have known eachother prior to Ymph, or otherwise.

Here's some nice bountyhunting music to get you pumped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ4NcE

Suggestions / Bard-Specific Summoning Themes
October 01, 2011, 07:43:24 PM
Not really a big deal, at all, but I was thinking the other day about how cool it would be to have different bard-related summoning themes.

For Example:

The Paint Theme:

Summons a multicolor-amored man "Painting" Created by the bard's imagination. As the levels increase perhaps summon a small prismatic dragon and things of that nature.

Music Theme: Living Music is summoned by the caster- Depending on the bard's alignment, the music may be dark and brooding, or happy and light-hearted. (Perhaps would appear as rays of blue or red or yellow light, respectively.) In any case, they deal sonic damage.

If anyone else has other bard-related themes to add, then by all means. I'm not really asking to have these things put in the module just because I suggested them- just to think about it.

Off-topic Discussion / Writing
September 16, 2011, 04:22:51 PM
Some of you may or may not have noticed my absence in the last three weeks. During this time I was either working to save money or working on some stories that I had always meant to write, but was often too lazy to ever get around to. The first of these stories is for sale on kindle now.

I plan on doing this pretty regularly. I'm working on two other short stories and I am very nearly done with the both of them. I've also finished setting the groundwork for about two novels that should be very interesting if I ever, you know, finish them.

Basically though, all I'm really saying is that I'd be very happy if you downloaded my story. You don't really need a kindle to do so, apparently. There are some systems on the computer that can read kindle files too. It's only .99 cents, as that was the cheapest I could set it to. If I had the choice it would have been nearly free.

But yeah, here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Entity-ebook/dp/B005NFCXXY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316189601&sr=8-1

Reviews would be nice, good or bad, but I won't bother you guys further save for the occasional update on anything else I have go out.

Suggestions / Magical Tunes
May 30, 2011, 06:38:58 PM
Yesterday on IRC we got into a discussion as to what would be cool for Bards to do outside of just special upgrades to the bard song ability. We joked a bit about some Ocarina of Time-ish abilities but we did stumble across something that might actually be pretty sweet.

Let me give an example: Johnny the Pure Class Bard finds a strange tablet at an important place like the Ziggurat, or high up in the Mountains of Mist. Perhaps even in the sunken Enclave. With a high enough Lore Roll, the Bard recieves an undroppable Item or "Tune." that they can play to teleport them to the tablet at any time. Should only be usable for pure bards and should only be able to teleport the bard alone.

Off-topic Discussion / Computer Troubles
May 26, 2011, 07:00:09 PM
I installed neverwinter nights on a different laptop and everything seems to be fine... It's a teensy bit laggier than I'd like but I think that's related to the main problem which I can't seem to fix. My character along with all NPCs and fellow PCs is has a fully reflective metallic skin. How to fix?

Suggestions / Some minor changes to spirit summons
January 31, 2011, 04:16:07 AM
This isn't really a big issue, just really minor stuff that could be redone if a DM finds the time.

Summon Creature 1 and 2 describes the spirit as one that is traveling through the underdark in despair or misery or something. Since we're no longer in the underdark, and I doubt my character's summoning these from the underdark, could the description be changed to something a little different? I'm thinking truly terrifying descriptions would be off the hook.

Summon Creature 3 is a Spectral Child. I think it would be cooler if the summon was literally a child character with a constant ghostly visage effect on. (not the mechanical advantage, just the look.) That would really stress how evil it is, I think.

Mainly just make-up changes, nothing mechanical!

Suggestions / Experimentation Forum
November 09, 2010, 02:45:13 PM
Now, I was going to save this until I started my necromancer concept, because I'm a selfish bastard, but I've changed my mind, partially because I hope this will be implemented by the time I get started, and partially because I may have noticed a few similiar concepts that I wouldn't mind having a head start, as it would improve my own.

The suggestion is simple:

We have an IC forum on Experimentation- This could apply for IC studies regarding golems, necromancy, magical stuff, etc.

The reason for this is that many experiments that you do IG could be so trivial that no DM would really want to be present for one- and so the players could simply post their experiments in a private forum, and the DMs could answer what happens.

Allow me to give an example:

Valtorix Evilgrave casts a negative energy ray on a rat's corpse to see if it causes any sign of life, however slight.

The DMs can state whether it's ineffective, or what exactly happens. If the experiment would actually be very eventful, the DM could say, "Do this IG." And then the player would catch a DM IG.

Suggestions / Engineer Crafting
August 25, 2010, 09:51:28 PM
I know the DMs have recently made a lot of changes to the crafting system, so I'm not sure they feel like adding anything else anytime soon, but I think it would be cool to eventually be able to use a portable engineer's workshop using the engineer efuss skill. This way we could make all sorts of crazy things.... purple crystal arrows... the bat-shurikens... Improved Crowbars... special types of golems... (purple crystal golems for you undead haters out there?) ... Dirty bombs... thieves tools... shackles.... shackle keys... grappling hooks... hookshots... and so forth.

Right now I'd suggest having the rogue class be the class that improves the skill, as there have been complaints of them being underpowered in a setting of nightrisers, reptiles, and high-ab fighters. This would kind of help improve the rogue that was dedicated enough.

I'm not saying we do this right now at this very minute though, for all you folks I know will want to say something about how we have a alchemist and herbalism crafting system already. This is simply a suggestion for the future that I think would be pretty badass.

Bug Reports / Books and Notes losing their content.
June 30, 2010, 05:26:28 AM
I had a pretty nice book going IG, but somehow everything I'd written in it disappeared. :(

General Discussion / The Wolfhunt Quest
August 01, 2009, 05:02:27 AM
Would it be wrong/metagaming to refuse to take on another adventurer into a group to this quest unless they were a ranger so "We can find the source of the wolves."?

I'm under the impression that knowing you'll need a ranger and refusing to take anyone else other than a ranger is metagaming, but some people think otherwise.

General Discussion / Sub-Duel Loot
July 21, 2009, 11:43:50 PM
I know there's a way to take away people's packs without killing them. Recently this would have been extremely helpfull to my character, but the pvp tool did not seem to have the option.... I imagine one would use the "/c whatever" to set your damage like this.

I try to avoid killing other characters prematurely, but every now and then I'll have to oblige in taking -some- things in their pack to make up for my own lost consumables.

I'm sure it's somewhere in the announcement thread, I'm just in a hurry and too lazy to find it.
