Suggestions / Arrow Homogenizer/Arrow table clean up
April 18, 2020, 07:44:13 PM
There are several types of identically named arrows that have the same arrow model image and damage type that don't stack. Flame arrows have upwards of 3-4 different items that don't stack, Ice Arrows, Arrows of the Vampire and Bone Tipped arrows are similarly unstackable in some cases.

Please allow for a  homogenizer like the potion one OR perhaps clean up the arrow loot table a bit.

Thank you!

Earlier today I bought Morgoul arrows off another player. When the barter finished, they (+2 acid damage) were transformed into Tusk Arrows (+2 Fire damage) which I already had 60 in my inventory. It filled up the Tusk arrow item to 299 and then dumped the rest into a separate pile of, properly named/damage type'd, Morgoul Arrows.

Bug Reports / Ring 101 doesn't give Exploration XP
April 14, 2020, 03:19:26 PM
I know it's not a big deal, but I don't think this ring has it for first-time-visiting characters.

When the Dangly Hoop Earrings item is equipped (which disables the head slot), the Shovel cannot be equipped second if the Earrings were equipped first.  Which makes no sense why the shovel would need the cloak OR the helm slot.

However, if you equip the shovel first THEN equip the earrings, the log states the same error about disabled slots, but still lets you equip both.

I assume this is a bug so I'm reporting it here.

After a 5 year break away from EFU, I created Rusty with the idea of a broken man trying to heal and redeem himself. The Idea was simple: He lost is daughter, Patti.

His name was given to him as a joke by one of the first PC's he met, a joke because he was wearing rusted armor and his hair was also red. He later adopted this name, giving up his real one out of shame (explained later). I continued to find (and wear) rusted armor until finally gifted a set that was rather fitting for him (screenshotted below)

The plot-hook was that he suffered from madness caused by the removal of his memories, though one even managed to push through with him (the horrible memory of him being trapped with one of his daughters in a house that was burned to the ground with them inside it).

This created a different type madness which manifested itself in public seizures, blackouts and ramblings of a madman. A huge thanks to the PCs/Players who took part in those moments....even in quest areas! He would hallucinate, hear voices, even the scars on his body would pulsate as events in the Rings rang, unknowingly to him, parallel to his former life that he couldn't recall. For as many characters tried to help him, a great number also abandoned him. And it made him stronger for it....sometimes.

The madness is also created a flawed logic that he was just a soul trapped in someone elses body, that he can't die since he's already dead, that the City is likely some sort of intermediary purgatory proving ground for trapped souls and that his daughter also made it to the City of Rings. While this plot wasn't directly picked up by DM's they did tie into it several times through items given to him based on role playing and events, particularly in Rings 70 and 68 several times....all of which nearly got Rusty or his travelling companions killed. ( I really appreciated that DM's so THANK YOU!)

He also has a very widely known love of Qedibh chili. So much so, he got a special spoon for it.

His parental impulsiveness even got him eaten by The Hound, though through IC events, he was saved. All because he loved his kid more than anything in the world and the chance to see her again was always at the front of his mind.

However, he died having never found Patti and never fully understanding his purpose for being in the City of Rings, once some of the mysteries of the Rings were revealed to him. However, he did regain his sanity and his focus, which was a huge stride for him, and inadvertently, a MAJOR secondary goal for me with him as a character.
Also despite only having 10 Wisdom, he did manage (through feats and gear) get a +18 Will Save. Take that fear, hold person and death magic! Huzzah!

Sadly my screenshots didn't work for most of his career due to me not being aware that my print screen button on my keyboard didn't work, so interactions with people like Paps, Saihbon, Aethelwine, Samantha and a very pivotal experience early on with Eurpraxia were lost. But below is some of the later ones.

Thanks to the Groat Cloaks for getting Rusty through Ring 95 and thank you to the Breakers (and their later combined crews) of Eurpaxia, Eliphas, Edwyn Dixon, Cornelia, Luca, William Thorne, Angvald for getting him to Ring 64.

Rusty's Deaths - Blurred to remove Spoilers

The Armor - Pretty sure this thing caused more deaths than it spared :-D - THANK YOU VLAID!

The Simplest Sword - Thanks YMD!

The Best Spoon a Person could have! THANKS DILLUSIONIST (iirc?)

A Claw from a very dangerous werewolf hunt in the Swamps of 95 (can't remember the DM - sorry! Thank you!)

And some Snotty Boots from the 'Black Snot' Tribe! (also can't remember the DM, but thank you!

Some Humor about Helms....plumed ones. And demonic ones. (Prax's helm got wrapped in demon flesh and lost it's plummage then started talking to Rusty on it's own so Rusty smited it)

A promise broke about catching up to Samantha Cassady

A goodbye and his last time seeing The Commons

Upon helping Prax and a group through the trial of 95, she wanted to scribe their names on the mount. Rusty refused as he wanted to put his daughters name on it when he found her. But with the dangers of Ring 64 ahead of him, he made a detour on his last trip past the mount to do something long overdue: Leave a message for his daughter and reveal his real name to the world. However, he did this in private....so unless someone revisits this peak, no one will ever know.

Getting to say goodbye to one of his oldest friends....even if it was in death. And then giving his last hope to the fates and the waters that, ironically, washed him ashore in the City in the first place.

Seeing as I played Rusty very intensely and regularly for over 4 months straight. It'll take some time to flesh out another concept I want to get behind. But I wont be leaving EFU :-)

In the combat log, any time I equip a ring, gloves or armor of any type, even just the stuff from the starting/character-creation area, a message in the combat log pops up that 'Deflection bonus' do not stack' once I have passed the 5 Parry points invested threshold.

This happened on a brand new character who is only level 3.

The cabin in that the Breakers and Striders are currently stationed at could use a charity bin. We just throw it on the ground right now, but it could use one outside the cabin.

Suggestions / Add Trashbins to Crossroads
April 06, 2020, 12:50:09 AM
A big reason for deep ring runners to go there is to sell items. When we cant, we have to ditch them. A trash bin would be helpful.

The seam that leads to the area with the wasteland orcs has a quest, but the XP given at the end seems under-rated for the challenge level.

As a level 9 character, it's a difficult quest even with a proper group, due to the strength of enemies and the size of clusters in fights, in two particular places: near the start and after the stairwell transition midway.

The end xp for the same level 9 character is only 94 xp, this is similar to other quests that have a max level of 9. The difference is that this quest goes up to Level 11 AND the enemies give between 1-2 xp per kill which is not like the other level 9 max'd quests (which give no xp per kill and the same 94 xp at the end)

Considering the challenge of this quest, I feel the end XP isn't scaled properly to match what is faced or that it's a level 11 max quest.

Buying 50+ herbs or empty bottles for brewing is time consuming while talking to vendors.

Please have those vendors that sell those items individually also offer 10packs/20packs of those same items. No cost difference for the value buy, but just buy in mass quantities so it's a faster transaction and you don't spend 10 minutes doing rightclick>buy>rightclick>buy>ad naseum....

Bug Reports / Alleyway leading to Cheese Thug Forge
April 03, 2020, 07:47:44 PM
The alley way leading to where the cheese dwarfs are located in Ticker Square has some invisible obstacle partially blocking it. You can still get into the alley, but it's like there is a person or bulding blockint the west/northwest corner of the entry to the alley.

Neither exists in that location and it's one of the few waystations in the rings that it would be fitting to add. Especially in light of the recent influx of runners lately.

Bug Reports / Ruined Trashmail Armor
January 21, 2020, 08:41:29 AM
This armor shows Improved Saving Throws: Reflex +1 twice in the description, but only applies a +1 instead of +2.
Not sure if it's supposed to be +2 or if it's mislabeled, but it should be adjusted.

Please make it +2 :-p

I ran into 3 Violet Fungus Tendrils in the sewers and despite having a description that describes a plant creature, my sword which gains +2 magical damage vs. plants, didn't trigger the magical damage.

My belief is that the creature is not classified as a plant OR that the weapon's description doesn't match the properties of the weapon, meaning the weapon wasn't actually granted the +2 Magical damage vs plants property.

I exclusively use the EFU launcher to get into EFU and it's worked just fine since it's inception.

However, after the new custom weapons hak came out, my efu launcher hangs at 'downloading patch for dialog.tlk'. I assume this is because it's re-downloading it again after every server reset.

This delay does not occur if I relog using the EFU launcher between server resets.

Suggestions / Randomly Add a Second Boss to quests
February 08, 2014, 06:16:52 PM
So I had a thought to shake things up in some of the commonly done quests like Mudmen, fort iron dread, kobold warren and clowns: add a second boss midway through.

I know we have randomly spawning 'flag carriers', but they are too far and far too rare.

I am thinking of a full, boss strength enemy that is physically larger, more powerful and will vary as far as enemy type (barbarian one time, mega-wizard another).

The boss would appear as a spawn at more challenging parts of quests or choke points with the sole point of wreaking havoc on an otherwise over-done quest.

Hell, maybe even add a second boss next to the first!

Thoughts?

Let me preface my comments with a couple of statements:

1.) I feel that EfU is one of the best put together PW's out there, if not the best. I love the server, generally love all the DM's and think that the larger, arching plots are suitably epic in scale and scope.

2.) my comments below are not to be treated as a 'rant' or a 'flame thread'. Nor are they to be treated as if I dislike the majority of the custom content and scripting and months of man hours put into building these systems.

I love all that has been done here, but I do think there might be two area's that could create a bit more energy by eliminating:

--------------

There are 3 things that I feel are problematic and have held back the RP potential of this server and, in one case, makes it feel like an MMO.

1. XP advancement system
2. Chained starter quests
3. Quantity of solo/semi-repeatable quests

1. The XP advancement system.
Just giving people free xp for standing around is a silly idea. At first I thought it was a neat idea, but after having played 3-4 characters now, I find it not as good as I once thought. (it also feeds into my second issue I'll mention later)

The reason is simple: you are giving people a reward for no effort. This doesn't encourage more role-playing or pc-to-pc interactions (which is the core reason for this server) because you're just standing around until you're level 4.

2. Chained starter quests (beginning with the guy who gives you the Welcome to Sanctuary book).
These are a great idea for one reason: they teach you the history of the server once you get to Serena Tower and get you a sending stone. The rest of the links aren't important and don't serve a purpose really other than some loosely strung together ideas. Additionally, these quests give far too much XP for simple delivery quests.

Perhaps, instead, make these as they used to be: independent quests. You still can do them all at once, but chaining them together makes them feel like one big boring chain that doesn't promote RP or give a person a chance to do them out of order to change things up a bit.

3. solo and/or semi-repeatable quests (the ones that let you only do them X times)

The issue here is that these quests again don't promote RP. yes the Puzzle quest makes sense to do solo, but the rest do not. Further, doing all of these quests (which all are solo-able till level 5) again removes RP potential from gathering 2-3 other people together to set of on adventure and you end up basically soloing up to level 6 without a single need to even BEGIN to RP with anyone. The fact that you can 'grind' up to a mid-strength level on a low level server makes this feel similar to an MMO where this is the standard way of doing things.

We've all heard those sendings from the intrepid player/character that ask for help on a level 5 or lower quest only to get silence for an answer because a lot of those quests can be solo'd where the reward and loot doesn't have to be shared.

So again, this removes the chance for interaction.

Several of the semi-repeatable quests also allow for more than 1 person, but since they can only be done X number of times, most people solo them so they don't risk their fellow player from skimming loot from a quest that cannot be repeated to have the chance at that loot again.

All three of these cause two major issues: people end up repeating the same quests over and over again because they are all level 5-7. And, because they are repeating the same 5 quests all day long, the quests no longer pose a challenge to them any longer because the quest design doesn't allow for any sort of chaotic nature to shake things up.

As an aside, and an alternative, tweaking existing quests in certain ways so that there is variety in them, might help alleviate some of the boredom and repetition. On this topic, I'll make a post in the suggestions thread.

Bug Reports / Dwarf Domain Power Not working
January 30, 2014, 10:11:22 PM
I go to use the special power that appears in the radial menu Cleric--> Dwarf and nothing happens. No combat log entry of any change, no character sheet change, no skill change, no feats change.

I can show a DM if needed.

Dominique Young (djspectre)

This character was created on Friday, September 27th, 2013 at 05:25:51 PM.
Since creation, this character has logged on and off 309 times.
The character has spent 26 days, 10 hours, 27 minutes, and 12 seconds online.

----------

Dominique was a mess inside. Contrary to her tough exterior and devout faith to Tempus, she harbored a lot of pain resulting from guilt she felt over the death of her brother Darcanis at the hands of an illithid. Her identical twin sister, Corana (who was also equally strong in combat), never forgave Dominique for the series of events that led up to it. So her pain was doubly bad. It was made worse because she never got to make amends with her twin before ending up in Sanctuary.

She took out her pain in the way of constantly sparring against or training everyone she could find in town. She tried writing a journal, at the behest of her ceased brother prior to his death, but it never felt totally right to her.

Her Sembian heritage allowed her to have some beauty (curves, breasts, skin, 11 CHA), but her upbrining was a confusing one. Her father was a smith's apprentice and her mother was a baker. She lvoed her father and mother equally, but their personalities couldn't be more apart. This was the reason Dominique would flip between brutish, rude and sentimentality. To complicate things, she also was highly intelligent [14 int] which was often overlooked or discounted because she could smash things better than most people.

Because of the confusion at home, she turned to something outside it for stability: religion. She found that the church of tempus was a good fit. When the darkening came, she and her sister were all that was left as they fled across the lands defending a group of refugees.

When she arrived in Sanctuary by pure accident, she struggled to find a place. She had few friends that she trusted. But when she did, it was a motely group: a halfling paladin, a human necromancer, a one-armed half-orc and a bi-polar rogue who later vanished. She took the title of "Warfighter", a mid-level rank in her church, so as to inspire others to take up arms against the Dread Army and to remind herself of what everyone faced.

She fought as hard as she drank and that meant many private moments where she cried herself to sleep unseen from the rest of the population.

Sanctuary tested her faith though and she began to fall away from the teachings of Tempus, something that he took notice of immediately and cursed her forever as a permanent reminder. This sank her into an even deeper depression, one she struggled with nearly every outing. Then, finally, an opportunity appeared where she was able to lead a group to the surface where they retook a Tempuran outpost and defeated a Drow House Matron and it's massive enthralled army. The victory netted her a battleflag touched, before her very eyes, by the God of War himself.

This battleflag, worn as a mantle, was what she needed....a token to prove her efforts, and her brothers death, was not in vain.

She joined the Auxiliary for the sole purpose of using their resources to fund her own personal army. She never fully trusted the mages of the Spellguard and had to bite her tounge on more than one occassion. She amassed a huge amount of supplies that she regularly used to save the collective asses of whatever group she was with, often giving the impression she was invincible, when

OOCly, she was my very first character to ever hit level 10. Ironically, her build was based on a previous character I had played in EFU1 and for a while I didn't take her concept seriously because I felt I had made a cheap knock off.

However, she was a goddamn blast to play. From her RP to combat, to even stranger things. The number of players and characters she interacted with were too great to try and remember them all. Yeah, I know, it sounds like a cop out, but it's not. So many people interacted with her to help me flesh out who she was that I can't point a finger at a few here and there and feel like I'm giving proper credit. Each little interaction, built her reputation and persona.

I will miss her greatly and I can't reveal many of the details of her death, but all things have to come to an end eventually.

Dom wasn't beholden to her faith's traditional colors so she tried to buy and make things that matched her hair color:
[hide=one of her early appearances][/hide]

However Dominique had issues of faith when she first arrived in Sanctuary. Her depression affected her combat ability and motivation. The result was a a stern scolding from a god (curse effects in next screenshot):
[hide=Tempus himself cursed her][/hide]

A long while later, after many moments of being beaten unconscious and suffering at the hands of her curse, she was given a chance at redemption. A lightstone, found on a Drow in the badlands turned out to be a magical portal to the surface when activated in the Lightstone viewing room. There, on the surface, a Drow army pressed down on a Tempurran held outpost. In a battle that involved nearly 35+ PC's and lasted nearly 45 IRL minutes, Dominique led them to victory over hundreds of Drow and a House Matron. This would be among her finest moments and granted her an item that was blessed, on the spot, by Tempus himself.

[hide=the battle flag she wore in place of a cloak]
[/hide]

With her faith restored and her curse alleviated, though not removed, she found a renewed energy and purpose: train everyone for war.

[hide=discussion after a training match][/hide]

[hide=training a priest in martial combat] [/hide]

Dominique held vigils for the warriors that had died prior to her, including holding a festival for the only important holy day in the Tempurran faith. She did this as much for reverance and respect as she did to try and wash away the last of her guilt about her brothers bravery in his final moments and to ask Tempus to watch over her twin sister whom she believed to still be alive on the surface.

[hide=Vigil for the Brave][/hide]

[hide=Private prayer for fallen Sanctuary friends and to ask forgiveness from her brother][/hide]

Dominique also decided that the only way she could win the war against the Illithid was to create an army. Her plan? To cuddle up to the only group with enough money, resources and equipment to fund it: The Spellguard. So she joined the Auxiliary. She hated being under the boot of the Agents and had plans to kill nearly every one she met, however fate always seemed to get in the way and they would die before she could get a chance to do the deed herself.

While she made a lot of enemies being part of the Spellguard's Auxiliary, she also tried her best to hold on to friendships, even ones that seemed impossible to advance.

When it came to combat, above all else, she was honorable and felt that no enemy was worth facing unless they were at their best.

[/hide]

[hide=an elf rebel who hated humans, she tried to convince him that revenge against the illithid was more appropriate, so she introduced him to Hoar][/hide]

When honor and combat were mixed, nothing rammed home this fact than when Bhartho, the surfacer, arrived and challenged her to combat. Despite his threats to 'break her', she held her own but through unfortunate circumstances, a Watcher PC slew him in cold blood.

Bug Reports / Dunwarren Access Error
December 20, 2013, 12:03:31 AM
In the section called Dunwarren Access, when you click on certain doors, the following message appears in the Combat Log:

"Jlabyrinth error: subject transition is not in jlabyrinth data"

The door will open, but nothing happens.

There are two doors that have this issue, but since they change locations, I can't tell you which doors specifically cause it.
