I usually deal with Balestriere Kaz, though he has been absent of late. As such, I've been negotiating a contract with, or rather trying to with Recluta Avelino.

My most recent contract was spurned by him with no attempts at re-negotiating for seemingly no clear reason, so I would like to discuss the topic with you regarding the upcoming election. I'm sure this was simply an oversight on your Recluta's part as I do not think you're in the business of turning away free dinar.

Enmur, Ashen Conclave

The master has commanded me to take over opperations while he seals himself away to study in his dusty tomes. I keep these records to remind myself. I know that I shouldn't but this place has changed me and I shall accept my punishment if they are found.

It is difficult to keep track of everything and as the Conclave grows, I find myself ill equipped to handle many of the duties I have been assigned. I have decided to recruit and allocate these tasks to others, it is difficult because this requires trust and that is not something I am permitted to exercise. 

I will follow a simple process, if they fail to provide more then they take, then they shall be cut loose. But that in itself comes with problems. Loose ends. At least that is something I am proficient at handling.  An assessment of potential assets will be crucial in keeping this to a minimum. So far I have been impressed by those who I have chosen, but  I expect I will make a mistake sooner or later.

The Government has granted my request and now commands my services as much as the Magus. I wonder if they truly understand what that means. Vellyn knows what I am and I find our exchanges straight forward, Lujayn on the other hand is more difficult to interact with. I do not know if she will make the hard decisions required of her station. It hardly matters so long as our investments pay off, we are committed now.

In a world of lies it is difficult to see the truth, yet there is one who has seen through my lies, and I know they know the truth. It shouldn't be possible, but perhaps there was some truth in what they said. I am what I was made to be, but this world has broken me. I can not speak up, or I will lose this independence that I have grown accustom to. I know no other way to live and many would kill to have what I have. The work will keep me distracted from such thoughts. I am obedient. What should it matter that things have changed here. The emptiness is being filled with something, but I know not what.

I can only wonder if Mansur sought an escape from this life.

So one thing I have noticed having run the trade hall for a while is with long term pcs being so prevalent, a lot of wares just end up living in storage forever until the next PC purge event, so a large portion of the player base is largely uninterested what you have to sell because they've seen it all before. I want to propose something that keeps things interesting, provides trade hall owners with a gold sink as a means of importing goods and keeping things interesting offering unique wares seen nowhere else in the module.

I don't know how easy this is to do, as I don't know if DM's can auto generate loot otherwise might be too much work (which would prob be the easiest way) but I think it would be cool for the trade hall to be able to import unique goods by investing X amount of gold representing trade with outside sources, and receive some unique wares to sell that you won't see on quest drops. I thought similar to how the alchemy reagents delivery system use to work where you would pay gold and receive your delivery in so many days.

You could even make it involve more people like you receive an item placing your order and you have to send pcs (using this item) to go and pick it up and deliver it, collecting the goods from the appropriate source. Loot could be themed based on where you are importing it from etc.

Something like this as well does not have to be limited to the trade hall, I expect a system like this could be use for various other things as well, e.g. Owner of the restaurant can import cooking supplies, Drug dealers importing drugs and so on.

Ps: Everyone loves looking at new loot.

I thank you for you elevating me to the position you have entrusted me with and assure you, that you and the well shall benefit from this decision, as it has already done so in an unofficial capacity. We should meet soon and discuss any immediate needs outside of the ongoing projects I am currently investigating.

I do need to raise an immediate issue as well regarding the wage I have been assigned. Unless you have revisited my initial proposal and the duties you wish performed, it is insultingly low for what I shall be doing and the expenses that I shall bear. I did not raise this matter prior, so I trust there shall be room for discussions on this.

I require an explanation, as I thought we had an understanding.

I would much rather work with you, as I have expressed, though these actions make me question such.

Following our conversation, please find my outline below of the proposed position within government, subject to refinement:

Spymaster / Inquisitor Role

The individual would be appointed by both Legate's and answer to them directly.

Any special assignments or tasks outside of the defined parameters require the authority of both Legates.

The individual will be considered an agent of the state and will be given authority to withhold information from other bodies outside the government, that is considered classified or sensitive material by the Legates of Ephia's Well.

The individual would be appropriately compensated with a wage and additional funds where necessary for tasks carried out on behalf of and authorised by the state.

The responsibilities of the position will be as follows:

- Managing, hiring, financing and overseeing agents that will aid in the duties of the position. Agents will not be recognised upon the Stele of Law and will be the sole responsibility of the position holder to oversee.

- Through the use of agents, covertly seek to gain information on enemies, dissidents, heretics and any who would seek harm against Ephia's Well, to gain a tactical advantage to prevent injury or disaster against the state and it's people.

- Proactively monitor both external and internal threats and report information back to the Legates of Ephia's Well, that appropriate measures may be taken and information dispensed as appropriate.

- Accept special assignments from the Legates, requiring the consent of both Legates, that may include infiltration of hostile entities, extraction of hostile entities from hostile or foreign powers, or any other extrajudicial activity deemed in the interest of the state.

- Protecting state secrets.

- Serving as an in-between for inter-accord conflicts and aiding in resolving matters that threatened the accords that serve as the basis of the Sultan's satrapy.

This is how I envision the role, though a more detailed would need to be drawn up by a suitable professional to ensure accountability and structure of the role, given the sensitive nature of the position.

Honoured Speakers,

I have been asked on behalf of the Warmaster to help find a means by which to solve a problem that has been encountered in the Skald which is causing issues with the war effort. The land itself, obscenely hot with ash is cursed, it is wrenching the very souls out of the fallen and manifesting as tormented spirits.

I do not think this will be a simple matter of consecrating the land as it will be a huge endeavour that would take far too long. Instead a means is required to prevent this and stave off this desecration. It is not my area of expertise so I call on the two of you to meet with me and share your wisdom in this, that we might aid the progress of the march.

Potential Candidates.

Read this carefully and heed it well, for we shall need to meet once again to discuss the election and the current failures.

Our league has been infiltrated, on all sides, that much is clear. It is too late to solve this now, so we must deal with it once the election has concluded, as also stated by our official Mister Isamber.

As I voiced during the recent meeting and that has now come to pass, the plotting with the Gold League has bore no fruit and betrayal was inevitable, rather I say this was planned all along. The exodus from the white league, leaves them lacking support and while our numbers swell, it is questionable how many of our newest members truly support our ideals and will vote purple when the time comes.

Mister Komemnos, this secret plotting that you have hidden from the league to gain the Gold Leagues support was a very poor choice and will reflect poorly on us. In addition, although we have not had chance to speak Mister Ekret your anti-accord narrative is going to cause us much harm, the Accords are a core principle of the function of our state, though there is much to work on this is not the way.

Each of you I believe have made critical mistakes in this candidate selection process and we must now meet to discuss how we are going to remedy this. If you each continue on this path, not only will we lose the election, but we will have played right into the Gold Leagues hands and I think we can all agree that are monochromatic Gold rulership is not what any of us desire right now.

Note - The White League contract with Legate Myl was a farce, easily broken. It is likely the Banda Rossa will be voting Gold this election. A clever ploy that has caused rifts in both our league and the white league, no doubt orchestrated by the Gold League, which has made us look the fool. The Gold league will win this election unless we do something about it.

I ask that you come together and meet, in the interest of the League and the people, to resolve these matters. I ask that Mister Komemnos accept your mistakes and learn from them and accept the wisdom of those who would offer guidance.


Let us speak before the selection is made. There is time to fix these mistakes, if you are both willing the listen.

Please keep a copy of the following judgement in your records following the trial of Merilithe, on Kanon Hray 26th IY 7788.

Murder Charges - Not Guilty.
Raised Charges of Serious Unlawful Resistance - Guilty.

Verdict-

A fine of 2500 dinars to be paid to the Sultans Jannisary by Subat 18th, IY 7788. The Janissary may summon Merilithe to the garrison and she must attend to make payments at least once each week leading up to the mentioned date. Failure to meet the fine or attend the summons is grounds for a revisiting of her sentencing.

Please inform me if she does not abide by her sentencing.

In addition and on an unrelated case, Carrot Grimes had a letter delivered to me after the proceedings yesterday, handed to me by Nadiri Selwyn. If you would like a copy of this letter for an ongoing investigation I will be happy to oblige you.

I have growing concerns about the direction at which the Synod is being lead and the faith as a whole. I know you have not been overly involved with the Synod and perhaps it is time that we sat down and discussed this.

The cult of anarchists as I have come to name them, Ashur, Long-legs, Ekret and Bras who have stirred up the faithful and had them bend to their whims, re-written our laws and appointed an oathsworn as leader of the faith. Among these, Bras is exiled from the well for attacking a Legate. Long-legs I hear is reported dead. Ashur has been accused of being a Wyrmist and Ekret has demonstrated to uphold not a single tenet of Izdu, that I have seen.

I would like to meet and discuss this with you this growing concern. We must return to order, and I can not ignore this emerging pattern.

I have received a report from former Legate Saenus that Recluta Willow, was infected with a variant of the plague born of the meteor that has been known in the past. The most notable symptom has been the infected individual weeping a purple substance. The infected if untreated have been known to transform into horrors. The sisters have created a cure for the plague that appears to have worked and cursed the recluta in this case but we must be vigilant for further such cases. This appears to be an isolated incident as far as I am aware.

I've found that I seem to accumulate these without having much use for them after a certain point, I would suggest that clerics get an ability that is:

Divine Restoration: Once per day a cleric may sacrifice 3 relic points to restore a single spell slot of their choosing.  (Pure only and unlock at level 8)

Sanctify Area: Once per day a cleric may attempt to Sanctify an area sacrificing 3 relic points, removing the presence of a gloom by passing an appropriate DC consecration check. (Pure only unlock at level 6)

Divine Blessing: Once per day a cleric may bless those around them with a powerful blessing based on their domains by sacrificing 3 relic points. (Pure only and unlocked at level 8).

Many of you have heard my bellows, some we have spoken in person, but allow me to clarify my position as I do no wish to cause undue conflict. During the gathering of the Synod, it was decided that it was appropriate for former Hakem Tariq Salah to hold the seat of the Martyr's, so I did not speak as per the rules of the Synod, and shared my thoughts in a respectful whisper.

It is the rule of the Synod that has since been discussed by Aurelio, Azim and Tariq that only a priest or cleric of the faith may hold the title of Hakem, which each now wish to amend from a meeting between themselves and not during the gathering of the Synod. I have also spoke with Khalid of Warad, who I understand was present at the conception of the Synod, to seek his wisdom in this matter and my understanding is thus:

- Only a cleric or priest may sit as Hakem, their connection to the gods the qualification that permits them to sit as Hakem, the leader whom all other speakers of the faith look to for guidance.

- To be chosen as Hakem the majority of the Synod must agree on their appointment, this means at least 5 of 8 seats. A vote not cast does not count as support for a candidate. So a vote of 3 for one candidate, 2 for another and 3 abstained or not present IS NOT a majority.

This is what we meet to discuss. But also on another matter, which is apparently a controversial view, though I know not why, that Oathsworn Paladins do not hold the spark of the divine, they do not interpret the will of the gods and hence they are not qualified to lead the faithful as their Hakem, just as it is written and intended.

I do not question the faith or conviction of an Oathsworn, nor their duty on their personal quest, or holy quest but it is NOT their duty to lead the faithful, that is the role of a speaker, as it always has been, as it always shall be. Consider these words, and let us engage in debate at the reconvening of the Synod.

I write to you regarding to recent announcement by the Major-domo Siursum Avek Res revoking the Government Accord law written by hand and recently introduced into law. I would like to offer my most sincere apologies for this oversight, I take full responsibility for the lack of clarity in the law.

It is my duty to uphold and preserve the integrity of the law and through my own sense of self-righteousness and superiority in this matter I have done quite the opposite, without consulting my colleagues within the Scribes. I have embarrassed myself, you and our office, for the Sultan himself to have to step in to undo my works, well intended as they were.

I would hereby offer my resignation from my position within the scribes as penance, though with the promise that if you should decline this offer, I shall take upon the humbling lessons taught through my actions and work to correct them.
