I think that EE is going to be amazing for NWN communities. It's important to keep in mind it's not just some improved graphics options, the new version has a lot of fixes and stability improvements, some of which I'm very happy about (such as a fix to containers being stuck open, and the ability to outrun an aura effect such as magic circle against alignment). The game will also be more open to modding and hopefully will have far less issues with some things being "hard coded." The game will be released on Steam as well, so we'll likely see a pretty large influx of new players, with more coming in every time there's a sale.

All of the listed quests/interactions have limits. Bilby's is 5 times only. Wizards is 2 times only. Fighter/Relic is 1 time only. Not sure about Sewer Quest.

On the subject of adding more class-specific quests, though:
Ranger (and Exploration rogue) only mapping quests could be fun.

An arena (exploration area) for monks to fight disciples of other orders, or complete challenges based on a philosophy. For instance, Sharran monk obstacle course that is permanently darkened and difficult/dangerous to traverse, for instance, or Ilmateri gauntlet where you take constant damage over time, with low HP and moderately high damage enemies that you can choose to spare for added reward at the end if you are brave enough to risk not fighting back.

Interactions in some appropriate quests for clerics and paladins to cleanse the divine presence of rival deities could be nice, though it should involve more than a simple consecration check. Perhaps a fight with a divine guardian appropriate to the quest, such as having to fight off a powerful winged kobold spirit if you try to cleanse and destroy a shrine of a kobold deity.

5th edition has, by my understanding, variable degrees of failure for those save or die effects. Medusas in particular will only instantly turn you to stone if you fail the DC by 5 or more. If you are in the 4-1 range of failure, you are instead stunned and have to make your next save or otherwise receive help.

I doubt the save or die stuff will ever be changed on EfU, though it might be nice if there was some sort of leeway given. Going to -8 or -9 and bleeding out (no stabilization chance) might be an option, giving people a chance to bring them back if they're quick enough, and only if you only failed the save by a few points.

You probably alt-tabbed, but if you did press the windows key then yeah that would do it.
Sometimes you have to repeatedly switch back and forth between windows if NWN locks up after alt-tabbing. Try right clicking on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and clicking "Show the Desktop" to minimize all windows, and only then alt-tab back to NWN. (I often find that alt-tabbing back to NWN works better than clicking on it in the taskbar when this happens to me.)

Anyway, if you want to disable the windows key, here you go:

If I were to change anything, I'd remove opposed schools entirely. All it does is unfairly punish wizard PC's for choosing certain schools, while giving others a free pass. It works fine in D&D where there's a huge number of spells to choose from, especially where utility spells (as opposed to damage, buff and debuffs) are far more abundant. Here in NWN the choices are few and far between, even with the custom spells we have on EfU. ALso, losing out on two schools would simply be terrible.

Having everyone start off as a generalist and then choosing a specialization to have the spellslots and other bonuses applied manually would be much better. It would encourage players to pick schools less for mechanical benefit (Illusion) and go toward schools that were previously terribly crippling (necromancy, for instance).

To echo some the above:
Please, for the love of god, if you lose or something happened you did not like, do not rant to the other person in tells. Do not be passive aggressive. Do not accuse them of cheating. Just take it to the DM's. You are ultimately constrained to your own limited perspective of what is really going on, and being OOC'ly antagonistic to another player who may not deserve your ire is the worst thing you can do. Sadly, this happens very often in my experience and it just needs to end.

Also, don't go all quiet after you lose PvP. Frustrating as it may be, if someone is trying to talk to you after PvP, you shouldn't just do your best impression of being AFK. How you conduct yourself after PvP can and will make the difference between you dying or just being robbed, or even walking away with all your stuff still. I won't say what you should say, obviously threatening to skin alive the person who just beat you isn't good for your health, but please try to say something and at least pretend there are no hard feelings between you and the other player.

A big part of the reason I'm not very active on EfU is because of the PvP and people's reactions to it occurring, and their reactions to being subdued. I love PvP, despite being mediocre at best, but several members of the community have responded with utter vitriol and contempt upon losing (or even upon me successfully escaping a gank), to the point that I am struggling to bring myself to log in.

I think it should also apply move speed and significant reflex penalties, as well.

Suggestions / Barbarian Rage
May 26, 2016, 03:55:15 AM
Random idea. Maybe not desirable. It may well be more trouble than it's worth, but I think it would be an interesting change.

Conceal the player's health while in rage. Similar to the subdual system where any damage taken is immediately healed so someone doesn't die, keep the Barbarian at full health (or whatever health they were at) throughout the rage. Taking damage over a certain threshold (they reach -10, or perhaps some even lower number) kills them, and when the rage ends, they are dealt the sum of the damage they took, minus any damage they healed (which may be enough to bring them down to -10 or lower as their CON also lowers).

The Barbarian doesn't even flinch when struck in combat. Only later does he realize he has a spear lodged in his gut.

This guy is amazing. I agree with... well, essentially 100% of what he says.

I really, really think people should watch this video. It applies very much to NWN and EfU. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQsJSqn71Fw

I'll more or less be gone from the game for a while, though might hop on IRC now and then. The server has been extremely unwelcoming since I returned, and between that and me not being able to come up with a concept that really appeals to me, my motivation is shot. Maybe I just need a few days' break, or maybe it'll be longer, I don't know.

Bug Reports / Brew Potion and Mimics
May 07, 2016, 09:05:50 AM
Someone else told me it's not supposed to be random each time, so maybe it is a bug, but maybe it isn't.

Brewing potions on my mimic is wildly chaotic. Serious healing, for instance, can range from as little as 25 gold to nearly 60. It changes with each casting, with different batches brewed in the same brewing potion costing wildly different amounts. It's more stable when casting on the empty bottles themselves, and most of the seeming bugginess emerges when using a potion cauldron. This is not limited to only serious healing but all potions.

Maybe it's not a bug, but I figured I'd report it in case it is.

Suggestions / Arcane Mimics
May 06, 2016, 02:29:37 AM
Self-serving suggestion, but...

Being a mimic seems really fun at first. But in time you realize that you will probably always be a buffbot and healer. While I see a lot of potential in the possibility of being a mimic who is an alchemist, I think it may be worthwhile considering ways to grant mimics added versatility.

I'm not suggesting all of the following be added in together. Instead, take them as separate ideas.

-Mimics are allowed to take Craft Wand and Scribe Scroll, but are given a player tool to assign the proper Only Usable By properties to said items, with explicit instructions that ALL of their crafted wands/scrolls and ONLY their wands/scrolls are to have this used on them. This would allow mimics to stock up on offensive items.

-Mimics lose their sequencer, instead gaining a 1/day steal spell item that operates in much the same way, operating as an additional stolen spell slot. At level 1 this can steal spells of 1 and below, at 5 it steals spells of 2 and below, and at 8 it steals spells of 3 and below. No matter what level they are they only gain this one extra recall option. Activating this modified sequencer allows the mimic to recall this spell as they would a normal spell, but instead filling a new slot. They can only activate this modified sequencer once per rest.

-Mimics are allowed to use their steal spell ability on scrolls, consuming it in the process.

Or just.. something, to make them more than people good at spamming healing spells.

Bless weapon worked on them back on a quest that featured them as enemies in EfUA/EfUM, if I remember correctly.
