I'm not sure this is even possible in NWN unfortunately. Even invisible creatures / ghosts etc. are unfortunately substantial when it comes to pathfinding on the walk mesh.

Was planning on doing this myself with Gwengeleg - but haven't been in game that much.

But yes - when I'm around more she'll sign up!

I like Valo's idea, although I'd probably do it without additional spawns.

Simply plant your banner, proceed to clear an area of its spawns, and have your kills attributed to your banner's progress in that area.

I'd probably also just put a time-limit on it. So for example - place a banner, and kills made in that area count towards your banner's progress for the next RL hour. Your faction's banner then cannot be placed in that area again for another four RL hours or similar.

Having played Stewards briefly at one point, I cannot recommend it highly enough if you want to learn more about the lore of Ymph.

Argh. I have a banite concept I've been wanting to play for ages but I'm in the middle of other things at the moment!

See how I go, I'll PM if I free myself up.

I also find it surprising when this issues are addressed in language that is often aggressive or needlessly adversarial.

Blindsight is a very powerful feat, and when it comes to permanent summons I agree it can be problematic. Theoretically though, it is most often used in EfU for what in PnP would be blindsight granted through hearing and sensing vibrations.

As a productive suggestion, perhaps it would make sense for the lower-level summons of these themes to have a very high boost to Listen rather than Blindsight? I tend to think that a Rogue with a very high Move Silently should be able to tread so lightly so as not to cause much of a tremor on the ground, if at all. This also works in the case of someone under invisibility, since the engine detects them based on Listen skill (and it is only us as players that roleplay not knowing exactly the location of the noise). I am not certain as to the radius at which Listen detection of invisibility functions though, so the idea may fall down there.

Higher level summons of these themes should continue to have Blindsight, whether they are permanent summons or not IMO.

So, for example.

Before you "sing", your character sheet says Will Save: 2
After you "sing", it says Will Save: 5

In character, you could describe that as a song that boosts mental resolve. Depending on the magnitude of the increase, you could also use adverbs such as "great" or "minor".

So experimenting and doing comparative research on your character sheet is pretty much the only way to discover what they do. Communicating that in game is less about mechanics and more about translating it into in-game terms.

Does that make sense and/or answer your questions?

This is likely to be a FOIG. Its really just a matter of making note of your character sheet before and after using bard song, and making note of the differences.

Beyond that, I imagine only a DM can tell you precise detail and only for the songs you already have.

Quote from: BASTARD!;284998The best thing to come of this is the realization of why we roleplay in the first place. It really is about the story and embracing whatever concept you have entirely. Not expecting to get things, but striving to make your character better because it pushes you along your own path as well as helping to mold the journeys of others. I think on a server like this, and from what people have said, that good things will come if you stay true to an idea and express it in a way that is interesting or involving.

Thanks again.

Having played NWN for at least 8 years, including several on EfU, I think I've had enough experience to know that I'm not gonna get much better considering my casual play style. It's not to say that I couldn't get better if I worked really hard at it, its that I know I won't (the same with my ability to play pool really!).

To assume that people will treat their gaming like a career and "work at it" I think is slightly too high an expectation.

As I said, I enjoy EfU as it is. I just don't think everyone should be expected to reach the same level of PvP and frenetic PvE mechanical capabilities as some of our more committed and/or talented players.

I think most points have been covered here already regarding the difficulty of that specific quest, and that story, character and goals should be prioritised over loot in order to enjoy EfU.

What I do find problematic in these discussions though is those sections of our community who seem to think that everyone should be able to achieve the mastery of NWN mechanics that is required to survive EfU / PvP. This is simply just not possible for everyone.

For me, its a bit like playing pool: I can -see- the shot I should take to sink the next ball, I understand the physics involved, I just can't physically execute it. Translate that to NWN: I know what potions/spells would help me theoretically, but when push comes to shove I am never clear-headed enough to remember to hit those quick slots when I have the chance or I'm simply too slow. Add a little lag and its already over. This is fine by me, and I enjoy this game - I just want those who are mechanically proficient to realise that not everyone is able to achieve it!

Same thing happened to my secondary character Talib, except it was a Character Token.
