Some points are pushed to the extreme in what has just been said, I do not think anybody plays here just for the game itself, or anybody (or most people) had in mind to do any damage to what is built here. But yes, there's the notion of respecting others' preferences.

(By the way, let's say it once and for all, what was considered elitist was to avoid humour when you're not necessarily *insert an humorist you like*.)

How about just telling someone through a PM/tell message in NWN that you just don't appreciate that? It's as simple as that sometimes, before to let it escalate to this height. If he continues, alright, but I don't think the player thought ''oh I'm so going to ruin the rp experience! OMGLMFAOBBQ!'' (That xp penalty thing just sounds like the result for waiting too long and not ''trying'' to tell it)

Anyway, the example of ''bad humour'' here has been summarized in several posts : don't make a joke about something your charcter cannot feel/know/ignore : lag, game of thrones, being emotionless in front of that giant red dragon...otherwise it is more about some commentaries about how humour should be done that isn't appreciated. (Which brings me back to my first paragraph.)

The heir of Clan Aberdenn, the king of dwarves reclaiming the crown...what a CLASH OF KINGS!

Take a single barbarian level and you've just replaced 6 levels or druid/ranger speed improvement. Nothing to encourage a pure class character there. Stealth bonus is nice, but it's not working in every wilderness area (or it is shown on the character sheet only from time to time?) For the Spot/Search bonus at level 5, I don't what you are talking about.

Stealth is nice, but if the marksmanship and dual-wielding weapons options are not interesting, the pure ranger class is but a spy. Spying is nice, but this isn't the whole thing about rangers. So yeah, an improvement in either armour or fighting capacities would balance things out.

"Rangers are sick" ? Perhaps I missed some aspects of the class, but it is flawed on many points I think. It's one of the classes with the largest selection of class skills, yet it only has 4 skill points per level up instead of 6. Marksmanship is not as interesting as it should be, and there is the famous chain shirt case discussed here. I also find it strange that a class that relies on dexterity for armor class does not has a feat like evasion. (like the barbarian) On the top of that, several classes like warriors and barbarians gets perks. Of course we're all entitled to have our own opinions, but I think (pure) rangers does need a little boost, in one way or another.

Congratulations and thank you for Rani Bégon, the voice of the Forest. We won't forget her anytime soon, we still hear the echoes through the woods.

This is how we paladins (and Smogson) do it.

I saw this somewhere on the forum. I don't remember where the thread is, so I'll just tell you in my own words how to do a direct connect shortcut. (It's pretty much basic though, no nice launcher involved)

1 : Create a shortcut of your nwmain.exe
2 : Right-click and select Properties on your shortcut and change the target location to

C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 50.97.38.98:5121
(The folder where your NWN install is may be different, adjust it to whatever suits you. The important part is what comes after nwmain.exe)

Voilà. This is how I log on the server everytime.

Quote from: Howland;308244I liked this family when it was a bunch of commoners, hicks, townsfolk, hunters, and villagers. Now it seems it seems it has everything from wild sorcerers to paladins.... come on guys!

There are only two characters with more extravagant backgrounds in the family. The other ones are pretty much alike those you mentionned there. To compare it to something else, you'd prefer to see the Smogson stick to the (real medieval times) commoner social class, right?

While the clergy in the forgotten realms tend to be too flashy with the use of magic, what do you think about monks? Even though they have some peculiar capacities too, they do not attract as much attention as other types of characters.

Ah I wouldn't say that, just bringing a few corrections. :)

''Aye, Ulfrid. Alerio, Ambrose and Mavell met some of these wild folks in the woods, while hunting goblins. Guess what...Mavell quarrelled with them again, for change.''

Ulfrid Smogson (NPC) :Most villages has their own chatty old man spreading local rumours throughout the place. In Mistlocke, Joe's brother, Ulfrid, is this man. He has always encouraged the members of the family in their goals, but he's known for (unconsciously) deforming the truth.

''Mary, Mary! Do you know what? Alerio, Ambrose and Mavell met some of these wild folks in the woods, while hunting goblins.  Guess what...um...oh yeah! Alerio quarrelled with them again, for change.''

Gosh, no!

Seriously, I must say you are really good roleplayers guys. It did not happen often for me to log in a roleplay forum, read the town news' thread and say a surprised ''no way!''. Your characters are really believable, and Emily was one that stood out of the mass, in my opinion. I would have liked to see her continue, but it looks like it'll stop here.

Congratulations for a terribly well-roleplayed character!

Here we go, the Smogson family gets bigger!

QuoteTall and proud, in his early fourties, with a gray beard adding a bit of harshness to an already stern-looking face, Ambrose Smogson is a paladin of Helm who puts an emphasis on discipline and duty. He is known for lecturing the younger people he works with, especially the latest Smogson generation, which he considers to be too brash and impulsive. The symbol of a upright, palm-out metal gauntlet with an eye in its middle is engraved on his armour's chest.

Looks like he has done quite a lot during his short journey on Ymph! I only saw him a few times distantly. This is too bad, I would have liked to roleplay at least once with him.

Nice to see you had fun with him. I wish you the same for the next character!
