The input was the same for mine initially, and then I used the deity selection conversation in an attempt to fix it, thinking it was a typo.

Unfortunately, it was not fixed. Maybe it's a problem with the Chaos domain?

Reading about your race before you make it is also a very good idea, as the stereotypes (chaotic evil Halfling ranger/rogue anybody?) can often be entirely wrong for the canon lore, or simply way too overdone to the point of obscuring what the race is supposed to be in the campaign setting.

And while many of us honestly just do NOT want to fork over money for stuff like sourcebooks (I'm as tight as a cat's arse when it comes to money, sirrahs), much of the information has been made open through the wonders of the internet. (No, I don't mean downloading them illegally; I mean the information being taken and presented differently, as it is on the forums here).

Reading about what you're making before you do it can only make your experience better, and it isn't as tedious and time-consuming as people seem to think.
Often, it's very easy to come up with ideas for storylines to pursue, or even entire characters, by looking over the canon information.
