My fiance's rat Lilly died last night in post-op, we think of shock from the surgery. She got a disease, can't remember what the technical name is, where her uterus filled with pus and other filth and expanded to what would be the size of a basket ball in a human. She was my fiance's first rat and we'd had her nearly two years. Those of you who have, or had, rats know what I mean when I say she was a shirt and sleeve rat and that she loved to ninja around the room, hiding and poking around. She's survived by her sister Eleanor, a goofy, highly energetic, chubby little thing. She will be sorely missed. I'll post a pic if I find one, and figure out how.

Feed them weed! It keeps rats healthy, its true!

What possible medical reason is there for that, Undercover?

EfUA_undercover

I forgot... No, jokes aside I know that from a few friends who kept rats as pets, they did swear on it.

SilentSouth

I was thinking on buying myself some rats, they are real cool pets.

AceOfSpadesX

Don't forget the weed.

Gennedy

But what medical use is it? I'm actually really curious.

I used to have rats, but the best thing about them is also the reason why I won't have them anymore.
They are amazing creatures, they have so much character, they're intelligent and reserved like cats, but they actually give a shit about you like dogs. They all have really unique and definable traits down to having their own favorite foods or ways to play, and they really look out for eachother when you're not around.
But the problem is that because they're this awesome, it's very easy to become very attached to them and really start to care fore these little bastards very quickly, and when you're going to get invested in a little thing that's only going to live 3 years, it's heartbreaking when they eventually shuffle off. Considering most people keep 3-5 rats at any one time you're looking to be losing a friend once every 1-2 years on average, it's too much :(.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I kept rats for years, and they are indeed perhaps the coolest animals ever.

My guinea pig Magneto also died this week, so I know well the pains of small mammal loss. =(

I hope your fiance is handling it well.

I just showed my fiance this thread and what's here so far. She says thank you to you all. She's about to show me where a pic or two of Lilly are, so I should have one up soonish. Assuming I figure out how.
