To give people something to do and inspire more fighting over resources while also adding a sense of desperation and hunger,  how about tweaking the current turn in quests to accept various sorts of food and add a new turn in NPC for various factions/locations.

I figure one for the Aberdenn, to represent feeding their bannermen, one for the Caermyn,  one for the Mists End for their larder, one for the Delving dwarves, one for the Order at their castle,  one for the Gazers at the Aerie, the Scars cave for them too.

We all know individual hunger mechanics are bad  and not fun,  but by having a tally that folks know,  they can see the problem of hunger unfold and more directly combat it.   DMs could periodically have NPCs chime in with their woes and problems if the faction does not get enough food.

Tone down Deer spawns and also add a secret withered meat modifier which is not obvious,  to allow Hballan cultist to wreak some havoc, withered food if turned in would hurt a factions totals.

Thoughts?

I rather don't think this would need more than an occasional mention by the DMs to be a plot device. When there was a famine in the Dominion plenty of players tried to do something about it and there was no such system in place.

Weaverific

There is a food shortage with multiple factions right now,  but as players cannot directly effect it without a DM it does not feel "real"to most folks.A BOX who can tell players how much food their group has will make it got home.

Do stuff about it that does not involve a DM and put it in your character notes thread. Take screenshots if you have to. Eventually it will get noticed.

No one for the most part,  cares, because they cannot see the hunger first hand.   Requiring a DM is never a good thing of it can be avoided.  DMs are busy people.

Do you want them overseeing foraging and hunting or epic quests? The only thing,  I imagine , more boring than a DM keeping track of the food you collect,  is the player having to document what they collect.  Taking and hosting screenshots is tedious and time consuming.

HoHoHeeHee

I'd rather see people competing over more interesting things than deer, cats, and berries to be quite honest. The state of hunger is great for an ambient / atmospheric effect, but doesn't really need to be much more than that until someone has a legitimate plan to fix things ICly.

The general idea of the hunger isn't that people are not gathering food, it's that there isn't enough food available due to population, and more importantly, the Withering.

This sounds like a lot of scripting for the DMs, when they have other more pressing matters on their plate.

If you want hunger to matter to the general server populace, then make it matter IG. There's already plenty of acknowledgment of the food crisis IG, it's constantly on the Clans' minds, as well as the Order Footmen's.

Do more IG to get people interested, and make it your own little plot, for whatever faction you support, and the Dms will take notice and make minute appropriate changes, as with anything one might dedicate themselves to IG. I don't think this needs a script.

Somnolescent

Basically a hunger/water system only works when you're in a setting where food and water are actually scarce and people kill each other for them.

Hardcore permanent death Dark Sun world where everyone wants to kill you for your five obsidian coins to buy a sip of water? Yes.

EfU? No. There's far more pressing problems around, such as the Withering.

We really need this. Also we gotta have toiletts then... It is totally immersion breaking that I have to imagine the colour of my piss according to my state of withering...
