Using up Food to Rest in the Wilderness

Resting in the wilds requires food. However, the food is checked for/used up before checking to see if it's been long enough since your last rest.

If not enough time has passed, you end up eating the food but not resting, which, from a mechanical point of view, is entirely pointless and wasteful. I press the "R" key twice in succession, ate two stews, but didn't rest because not enough time had passed. After enough time did pass, then did I find out that I didn't have the food in my inventory anymore.

I think the check for food in the script should happen after checking to see if enough time has passed by yet.

Personally, Im not a fan of the food-system at all..
It just does not add anything to the RP aside of "Hey Im hungry, got some food? I cant rest without food."

I think that it is a good addition, considering that it gives more purpose for the cooking skill and pushes people into looking for/ rolling cooks.

I would suggest (if it isn't already implemented) that you get different bonuses/ drawback according to what you eat before resting.

Sadly, I agree with keats. Sadly because I feel that it is inevitable.

EFU has never had a food system. Make it optional or don't include it at all.

Deception

I don't find the need to lug about rations to be increasing my immersion...

Yalta

Make it optional or don't include it imo.

Howlando

Thank you for your opinions but I'd like to try this for a little while as a experiment. I'd really prefer exploring the Underdark to be a bit more of an immersive, wilderness experience. Bear in mind that no food is required for inns which is a nice perk for them. Also, having sufficient wilderness survival EFUSS makes having food unnecessary.

So it's relatively minor but I'm not such a fan of city sorc/wizards running around invis in the wilds resting wherever they please without a care in the world. Let's just see how it goes first before clamoring to remove it.

Zango_Unchained

I think its a good addition myself. Haven't run into any issues or need of it yet though.

Howlando

Oh, well, I'm happy to have it be adjusted so food is only consumed on rest though.

Random_White_Guy

Personally I'm for it. Much like Howland I always found it irksome that city bards and such would just go "OH HEY GUYS, TIME TO REST GOT A BEDROLL FOR A BROTHER?".

Plus I think killing animal companions and familiars should give out foot, but that's just my personal opinion.

If you're trapped on a DM quest in the wilds and you're starving for days that Wizard's little chicken...

...
...starts to look a bit more like chicken.

Alternatively this totally leads to some potential for Cannibalism if the "Raw Humanoid Meat" items that circle around now and then can lend to this!

A reason to appreciate the cooking system more.  Would be interesting if certain food items made with the system gave small benefits after resting.  Or have multiple uses perhaps? Though sounds like it'd be more trouble than it'd be worth.

Heavyfog

Thank you, Howland.

I haven't even played a cook but I think trying this idea is long overdue.  I am amazed by how many PCs never seem to have simple oil or in some cases even a bedroll. I can envision PCs perhaps sitting and eating/chilling while they rest rather than the quick, mechanical necessity of sleep IG. Having better/no food could lead to some fun RP and would lastly make a famine MUCH better represented IG (as I've seen many EFU famines/food shortages and yet my PCs never really 'felt' it IG).

errr...

that is not sufficient reason to not implement something.

I guess it is pretty much worthwhile. It would be rather enjoyable to see an splendid apple pie to bust up your charisma due to the happiness it brings you.

So there's actually something I can do with the Cooking skill I took?

Too bad none of the merchants in the market sell a cooking kit.
