Similar to the Protect the Rothe quest or perhaps the Svirfneblin Stairs I think it'd be have a higher end quest that fits into this niche since both stop at around level 7 if I'm not mistaken. Protecting a band of escaped slaves somewhere on the Dark Lake as Sorrowfeast Ogres and all manner of Slave-Catchers working for them (Elven Archers, Human Priests, Halfling Assassins, etc) attempt to slaughter the escaped slaves to send a message. Something on scale and danger of the other high-end quests, but with a more defensive rather than offensive feel to it.

Similarly I think it'd be fun to have a high end quest similar to the Bloodtail Kobolds 2 but with the Dark Lake presence of the Dread. Maybe wiping out the remnants of a Dread Fleet or similar and some more naval combat on a ship being raided by Dread forces and similar.

Just food for thought!

I've been thinking of something like harpies on the Spire, and you have to defend an existing group on the Spire from them. (More kobolds?)

Optional at the end to kill who you were protecting for more heavy loot (weapons, armor, lair supplies!), but this provokes the ire of something large that you NEED to run away from, adding a running battle and a difficult treasure to move element to the mix.

Quest fails if that something large has to come to the defence of the lair before the Harpie Queen is slain, and then they'll chase out the adventurers as well. (Harpie Queen mechanics, dispel magic, confusion & domination/charming players to turn on each other, dominate non-hostile defender kobolds to attack the players...)

Climbing back down from the Spire with heavy loot would also be entertaining then. Haha

General story would be the harpies have come to the Spire to set up a new nest, and they plan to lair in existing kobold tunnels and are trying to drive out the kobolds?

I would love to see another Protect the Rothe quest styled quest geared for higher level. Or just more of that kind in general.

if she's your girl then why does her leitmotif appear in my battle theme bro  :/

I personally find these types of quests quite dull, I prefer variety or random elements to quest. At higher levels if you just have to fend of wave after wave of something it just feels like grinding, not to mention to XP implications where it would have to be enough to reward a higher level PC without being the go to quest to drag a lowbie on just to get them shit tons of xp. Distant Shore is an excellent example of how I view a high end quest and it has everything, including this kind of thing by breaking the siege at the start all be that more offensive. Save this kind of thing for DM invasions etc imo.
