Lower custom plate price

The price on custom made plate is absurdly high.  In this setting you can get plate in a house for 900 gold.  You can make other armors for far far less, breast plate is around 550 gold.  So for 2 AC you're paying 3,000 more gold?  I suggest lower it to at least 2,500 for custom made plate.  I don't think it should be such a hassle to get some armor for your class.

A key thing to keep in mind, the price is considerable when you can:

A) Make it to your style. You look like a champion when you walk out of that smithy.

B) Put save bonuses on it (at a later date, if you don't have the 1,500 on hand). You can't find armor that will give you +1 will/reflex/fortitude anywhere else in the module, except in rare instances.

The price is appropriate for the potential power, I think. It will easily become best in slot if you invest in it. (Not just because of mechanical powerful, but fashion, because you'll look cool as hell for the entirety of your character's lifespan.).

As for it being 3,600 base: that's just 200 over the base fullplate you can get from the Toyfolly Gnomes.

It factors in things like dye, unlike the Toyfolly stuff.

Players sell discovered Full Plate at cheaper rates for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

- Nobody wants to carry around 50 pounds. The sooner they can get rid of it, the better.

- 3,400 is a steep investment. Nobody wants to be the one who has to compete with the Toyfolly Gnomes. 1,000 - 2,500 is more accessible to the starting character's economy.

- Enabling new characters an opportunity to thrive sooner.

Player-side economy is an occasional luxury, it doesn't define the norm.

I think this is comparing apples and oranges. For 900gp, I join a House and I have the choice between their gear and... that's my choice. I can't customize it. (Nor do I think House gear needs to be customized.)


I think customizing gear should be expensive.

I'm with plum, though, because the cost is disproportionately applied to full plate over other armors and the cost of custom FP is a huge reason I won't play PCs that wear heavy armor

If it's a factor of the add-ons, then just bump up the price of the skills and saves to compensate!

To be clear, I don't think that the suggestion is bad overall.

1) I think customized gear should be rare and expensive. That doesn't mean I am dismissing the idea of lowering the price of custom plate though.
2) I don't think we should compare customized gear to House gear.
