Honored Legates,

Is it possible to have a list of those whom shall be tried for the descent into Al-Nasr? I've been approached by Apothar Cosmatos regarding Advocation though I'm uncertain that is what you meant by aiding this case.

The streets are bustling of late with hearsay and yet I have no little birds to keep me appraised. I would welcome a detailed report of the situation so I might choose best how to approach the matter.

The soldier has eluded my meeting, however I cannot stop but feel as if this entire case weighs upon a great conflict of interest for all parties involved. A trial leaves room for error, and we can presume the presence of Q'tolip and his lot in the party as a means of their need to be so in earlier policies.

Recent changes to that policy have perhaps forced their hand, and we ought to ask ourselves if this would have happened if the Tower of Q'tolip were still in charge of moderating access in and out of the Depths.

Sergeant Hanson Gilbracht is the one responsible for leading this expedition, and whether or not the pretenses were legal for their entry, the fallout has seen the massacre of many, many Ephians. An entire generation of Ephians, in fact. So many children, robbed of their due futures. Futures we owed them. Futures our city and its champions fought for in the Iakmean War. We were at peace; we are at peace, for now.

It was to be a time of renewal, blessed by B'aara, and yet in our city there is the gall to delve into a place that is unnecessary at best, and at worse, pointless curiosity. In the Exit Poll, a question was asked; should Al-Nasr be buried?

I answered yes, and I believe going forward we should hold an Assembly to discuss this matter and hear the thoughts of the city, but in sooth, it *should* be buried. Too many have grown an adverse taste for that hell, and it has gone on long enough in relative secrecy from the majority of the city but this recent slaughter has of course not gone unnoticed. They know now something sleeps there, and it has been awake for some time.

Orcs bleed. The Tormented do not, they only return with vicious ire deserved of their horrific nature.

Gods preserve us.

Faith Is My Shield

Palatial Advocate Edmund Lothere,

As a courtesy and so that you are given every possible tool and chance to ensure this upcoming trial uncovers the truth, you are being provided with the information below. I hope you return the courtesy and not dispense this information more than needed.

The six to-be-accused are:

  • Armin Albertos
  • Eva Keter
  • Hanson Gilbracht
  • Jamileh Attar
  • Shum Sheroy
  • Zol Nur

It is expected they will be charged with, at minimum, with capital charges of Descent into Al-Nasr (specifically the version placed upon the Stele on the date of Illul 19th, IY 7789, see attached below).

No official report has yet been published by any authority. Then-Scribe Amani ibn-Ibrahim provided me with a transcript of bellow records that summarizes events from the perspective of those on the surface. To get a full accounting of things, you would need to interview a great number of people, including the to-be-accused.

We are aware Janissaries prosecuting other Janissaries may be a conflict of interest, we have asked the Lieutenancy of the Legion to make what administrative changes they deem necessary to resolve it.

Furthermore, considering the many unique aspects of this trial, the following changes to the procedures of law are under consideration. Please note Legate Lhyrian and myself have yet to finalize our decisions on these changes and the below is an incomplete list.

  • To account for scheduling/availability, the trial shall hopefully occur with all six accused present, if this does not happen, subsequent trials will occur until all six have been trialed
  • After the Opening Oration of the State and Advocate, the accused shall be given a chance to plead guilty or not guilty
  • If they all plead guilty, we skip to Closing Orations
  • If any plead not guilty, we proceed as per standard procedure focused on those who plead not guilty
  • Prior to the Verdict, we invite the accused a chance to speak any words of contrition
  • Both Legates shall sit as judges

We Hold What Is Poured,
Legate Faith Kruehtzer
