So, yeah, I haven't been around IG for a while, due to an inability to connect to EfU:A. As for what I've been doing, gaming-wise, well I've been designing a NWN campaign with a 1930s film noir meets FR setting, using the d20 Modern mod. Players will have the chance to play as City Watch or police consultants trying to deal with various crime plots in a port city rife with gangs and smuggling. Potions are heavily restricted in the setting, leading to a massive gang problem funded by a black market in magical supplies, akin to US Prohibition era bootlegging. It's set some 500 years after EfU's time, with firearms widespread, as well as mechanical technology.

The campaign will start off fairly linear, but expand to give the players choice in what crimes to follow up, what gangs to try and crack down on, and what areas to patrol as the module grows. Succeed, and you'll have a weapons budget the size of a small town, and hardened crooks running out of town cursing your names. Fail and you could end up with your unit shut down, working as P.I.s from a dingy office. Whatever happens, there's potential.  A major feature of the campaign will be that the PCs are in no way epic heroes. Elite cops, sure, but plenty of things they run into conflict with will be able to demolish them in a fair fight, or turn intimidation attempts against them. Teamwork and cunning are going to be the key to success, rather than badassery. The plot's about being outnumbered on all sides, feeling a sense of achievement at every step your party makes in restoring order to a decaying city. Any standard NWN race works, though it would be good to have at least one half-orc for plot reasons.

There will be:
  • Mysteries to solve!
  • Bank jobs to foil!
  • Midnight chases through smog-filled back alleys!
  • Shootouts on top of trains!
  • Corruption to uncover!
  • Shadowy informants!
  • Blackmail!
  • Fireball-slinging, fedora wearing crime lords!
  • Evil cults! (OK, every campaign has those, but ours get spooky mansions and sleazy cellars to cult it up in)
  • Tense standoffs in smoky dives!
  • And, of course, Et Cetera!
Time would be probably Saturday afternoon/early evening GMT, but it's flexible to when players can agree, and when doesn't clash with Stronghold. You'll need the D20 mod and CEP. IRC me for more details.

GoblinSapper

This sounds pretty awesome. Do we get guns?

Porkolt

Sounds nifty. And potentially Lovecraftian. Do we get to rob banks and museums ourselves?

Divine Intervention

I want to play a ale swilling dwarf P.I. with a shotgun.  Make it happen.

GoblinSapper

Hardbitten Halforc Detective. With a Claymore.

Porkolt

"I already saw it in my crystal ball"-diviner detective.

GoblinSapper

sooo...any werd on this?

Buns in the Oven

There are guns.

We have guns, people.

EfUA_undercover

I am eager to see your work, Egon. Let me know what you need and I will make a character!

Sorry about lack of response, back here now. Been away from Internet a few days, busy with a masters thesis writeup and other stuff.

Yes there are guns, the technology goes up to tommy-gun style weapons made by those ever-inventive gnomes. there is definitely going to be a Lovecraftian kind of theme running through the plots, with cultists, insanity and mysterious threats.

The Campaign can start any time from next Monday onwards (when I'm back from holiday), and I'd like to run solo preludes for any PC in on this, both for plot building and checking you have all the right haks etc in advance.

I've put together a short manual/setting documentation, and you can grab a read here:

if you want to check out the mechanics of the game in advance and build your PCs, download CEP 2.3, D20 modern and the CTP Common and CTP Gothic Interior mods. Links below:

Possible developement

I'm toying around with creating custom skills, as in the ADDITION of a new skill set to suit the skill's a Private Investigator might use in his daily business.

Thing is, I'm short on ideas and not very creative, I'm more of a math monkey- Also, Egon hasn't given me the okay for this yet, but i'm doing it anyway, if he wants to put it in, and public support is good for the idea, it'll be up to him.

Also, Egon, log into irc sometime!

An example could be: Handling Evidence. Etc...

Nights Bane

Cheers

Thanks to One With Nature for the creative input, We came up with the following:

*Autopsy
*Interrogation
*Ballistics
*Handling evidence.

Barehander

This hasn't started yet? Is there room still? Saturday afternoons/evenings GMT are generally good, and so are Wednesday to Friday afternoons.

This sounds awesome and I definetely want in, if possible. I'm happy to play anything that's missing from the unit still.

Nights Bane

Ach. Trouble

I had trouble trying to edit the .tlk file that comes with d20 modern, so it seems i am at an impass with the addition of custom skills manually (the easy way) but instead if the addition of yet another hak! the PRC Character Creator Hak was allowed, we would in fact be able to create our own classes and skills that way.
