On the Code of Paladins

-Penned by Autumnalis-Megellanica-Polyphylla Prostrate-Vulgaris-Saxitilis from the words of the Gods

Foreword

The code of the Paladin guides us, and teaches us to better ourselves, so that we may better others. The code binds us, so that we can do no wrong, nor have the desire. To stray from its tenants is to be weak, in the face of evil. We must be ever vigilant, and use our honour, our wisdom, and our strength in order to best our strongest foes. We must also use this to respect our foes, for disrespect is to break the code of conduct amongst Paladins, and lose favour with the gods.

Of Good, Evil and Betrayal

A Paladin is a righteous leader who seeks to always do good, even in the face of temptation. To stray from this path, is to be one with the path of evil, and to never be able to face redemption. To feel betrayed is a terrible feeling that we all must feel some time in our lives, but to betray the gods so that one may feel gratification is evil, and undeserving of forgivness from the gods. How can even an evil god trust a traitor to ones own beliefs? Treason is evil, and must always be avoided, unless in conflict with ones own honour, but never betray the gods.

Defenders of the Weak

A true paladin does not cower in the face of evil. A paladin will seek to throw himself in the path of evil, in order to accomplish the goal of defending the weak or innocent. Even if this path places the paladin at risk, to do such is to do a feat of good, and will face divine rewards from the gods if one should perish.

Of Justice and Law

All Paladins must work to promote justice and law. Though some would say it is the job of the followers of Tyr, they would be wise not to shirk their resposibilities. Paladins are all responsible to justice and law, though Tyrrans do seek this as their main tenants of faith. If, in the event that a Paladin disagrees with the law or the justice of the land, one must continue to respect it, or change it from within. To disregard it is rebellion, and unworthy of favour from the gods. If the law is truly evil, however, Paladins are encouraged to do what their concience dictates of them.

On Truth

A paladin, above all, is never a liar. They will never seek to trick or deceive. They do not steal, cheat, or take advantage. To do so is to take the path of evil, in favour of the good. If a Paladin puts the lives of innocents at risk through lieing, that is in violation of the code. If in the event of capture, and a Paladin is questioned, the honourable thing to do is say nothing, and recieve the punishment. To endure the pain is Ilmater’s domain, and for enduring, it is honourable. The rewards of such are ten fold.

Path of the Righteous

A Paladin is a holy man, and seeks to serve their gods first, by defending the weak. This is the path to righteousness. To be righteous has a profound impact on the Paladins soul for through this, the gods may grant boons and bless the Holy Paladin. On the path of the righteous, a Paladin must also work towards the ends of Good and Justice, or offend the gods at their own peril. And to work towards dark ends is inappropriate for a Paladin. To do so is to lose the right to be a Paladin, and be disgraced. Honour the gods, and give praise when need be to defend your own soul and the souls of others. This is the Code of the Paladin.
