The Tale of the Great Wyrm: As told by Hagar Fargoth

Now, hear the tale of the Great Wyrm, and how he made the four elements, and the doom of the world should he awaken.

In the beginning of this world, there was chaos. Air mingled with the earth and ice danced with fire. The Great Wyrm slept through this anarchy and chaos, deeply breathing, but soon their clamor grew so great, that he awakened from his rest and gave a mighty roar. This roar was so mighty, that the elements quailed, and their fighting stopped there and then. He then breathed upon the warring elements, and they soon separated. Becoming Fire, Earth, Ice, and Air.

Soon dragons arose from these elements, the Fyre Wyrm, the White Wyrm, the Earth Wyrm, and the Air Wyrm. They were hungry for battle and conquest, but were wise to wait for the Great Wyrm to slumber once more. As soon as he rested his weary eyes, the clamor of battle grew great once more as they sought to conquer each other; the greatest rivalries being Tempest and Gaia, and Frost and Flame. It came to again, the great Wyrm roared once more from his slumber, irritated at his children's yammer... He then breathed again, his mighty breath forging the world as we knew it, and he gave the dragons dominion of this world so that they may settle their disputes away from him.

The White Wyrm took the icy north, and made a people hardy and strong. The Fire Wyrm took the south, and the desert, and made a people sly and cunning, full of trickery and backstabbing. The Earth Wyrm took the earth itself and what lies underneath it, and filled it with riches for his own hoard - as his hoard was so great, the other dragons were jealous and always seeking to take this hoard. To defend it, he made men to tend the earth, short stocky dwarves to mine and tunnel, and fierce drow to strike terror into the surface. - The Air wyrm held dominion over all the other dragons above them, but he allied with both fire and ice, to make blizzards and sandstorms. To make war upon the Earth Wyrm upon the surface, he created birds of prey and mighty wyverns, a shadow of the Air Wyrm, but mighty nonetheless.

Soon, the clamor of war was so great, the Great Wyrm once again awoke from his slumber, and with a mighty roar, he summoned the four dragons before him, and told them to silence their battles. Lest in his rage he devours the world and all creation. The dragons, terrified of the Great Wyrm, quieted their battle, and respected each others boundaries, and worked through their servants; while their battle was loud, they were not of the level of mighty dragons. As the Great Wyrm returned to rest, his breath descended upon this Isle. His breath giving visions to those susceptible to them. Of an end, for the dragons desire for wealth shall once again ignite the world in flame.

And the Mighty wyrm will awaken.

And devour us all.
