My familiar can be summoned and fights fine - but won't follow me. It's the rat/panther one.

Open the Craft Menu. Choose Number 4, Player Tools. It should be Number 4, at least. Set Player Tool 1 to Control Companion.

This gives you a new feat in the radial menu, on the left hand side I believe. In the same place where the Summon Familiar option is. Hotkey that. It should read Player Tool 1 and look like a little wand with sparklies.

Use it on your familiar. This puts the familiar under your control. Now use the feat again, but this time, click on the ground. You'll see your familiar move to that spot. Use it on yourself and the familiar will follow you. Using the tool on a creature or locked door will make your familiar attack it.

Rat familiar at least will not move on its own as normal. Pretty sure it's a bug with the new player tool system. But this gives you a little more control without having to possess the familiar!

Rat familiar not following is absolutely NOT a bug of the new player tool system. Someone probably just forgot to set the AI scripts correctly on your familiar.
