I am looking for one more member for my D&D campaign. Please send me a PM if you are interested in the following pitch; you will be starting at level 1. We will be using roll20 and the campaign will be text-based.

The Sword Coast has entered a sort of cultural revolution. A resurgence of interest in the ancient mysteries of Netheril, an old mage empire that was destroyed by a mysterious cataclysm thousands of years ago, has resulted in many scholars and philosophers of the western world transforming their perspectives on morality and the human condition, as well as questioning the previously objective truths of the Old Order's paradigm.

New, magical technology has caused the human population to explode exponentially, as the art of Medicus Arcanus becomes widespread and wizard-doctors make leaps and bounds in the practice of medicinal science. Any mage of the modern day knows he's guaranteed to make a fortune from healing the ailments of the sick, needy and wealthy - no longer needing to draw upon divine miracles to absolve humanity of its miseries.

Because of this, the Gods are no longer able to regulate the fortunes of Men - who ought live, and who ought die; Man has stolen the reins of Fate from the Gods, and as a result the balance is growing wildly out of proportion. Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes collectively now number less than 5% of the world's population - vast swathes of Humans now dominate Faerun, with Halflings enjoying a lesser undercurrent of racial proclivity. As a result, animosity towards non-human races has begun to blossom in the eyes of both the upper and lower classes - the upper seeing them as relicts of a bygone era who have no place in a modern future, whilst the lower resent the nonhumans' alien nature; an 'us-and-them' mentality begins to develop.

The year is 1673 DR, and you - for whatever reason - have arrived in Valencia, the new capital of the Tethyrian Kingdom. Once a minor feudal nation of little importance to the grander politics of the west, Tethyr has since found fortunes in its exploitation of gold mines in colonies on the Chultan archipelago. Now an ambitious naval empire with its sights set on expansionistic greatness, Tethyr has been the name on the lips of every political ne'er-do-well for the past century.

Where you have come from is your decision to make. Perhaps you have come from the Free Republic of Neverwinter, a bustling trade city renowned for its avant-garde liberalism and forward-thinking philosophies; a place of art, culture and free trade, the vanguard of the Faerunian Renaissance as society accelerates out of the dark ages.

Or perhaps you have come from New Zhentil, the military dictatorship borne from the ruthless, harsh but pragmatic rule of Lord Audegast, who was the first to pioneer the concept of a professional army wielding the new technology of firearms; condottieri and military engineers flocked to his banner, his vast force of black-clad, musket-bearing soldiers swiftly putting an end to the widespread civil war and chaos in the Moonsea region. New Zhentil now rules over a vast swathe of northern territory, currently enacting a merciless purge of non-humans, political dissidents and 'undesirables' in the province.

Or you could be a refugee from ancient Halruaa, once a mighty wizard-nation founded on the principles of ancient, senatorial magocracy inherited from Old Netheril; now a husk, a distant memory whispered on quivering lips that tell dark tales of an unstoppable menace from the East, a black shadow sweeping over the arid midlands of Faerun, inexorable in its destructive march towards the western coast. Magical outcasts, wizardly vagabonds and sorcerous rejects now roam the lands in search of coin and a means to ply their gifts, having lost friends, family and home to a dark apocalypse.

Whether you are from the Republic of Amn, the time-locked isles of Moonshae trapped in celtic traditions, the piratical Freeport of Luskan or the dusty sands of the arid Calimshan Sultanate, you have eventually found yourself here, the city of opportunity, the land of enterprise and ambition for those with the balls to seize it - Valencia.

Look forward to hearing from you.
