Peronal issues connecting to EFU

Hey guys, for some reason I lag so badly on efu that I can't even function there right now. Does anyone know what usually causes lag for individual connections? This is an EFU specific lag issue.

Today I have also experienced immense lag, never before seen to me.

I would guide you to test following commands when you face such connection issues.

tracert nwn.efupw.com
ping nwn.efupw.com

using the following will ping indefinitely and show you if there are packet losses or timeouts. Stop it with ctrl + c when you have enough.

ping -t nwn.efupw.com
As an example, from europe I have around 110-120 ms latency to our server which resides in US. This is normal to what is and has been in efu for many years, for me. Just as a baseline for latency. Now, lag will come if you see huge jumps from your average latency, or if you have actual timeouts (Those are freezing moments that are suddenly caught up when you receive packages again).

There are 3 options for latency / timeouts.

1.) You are using something that requires both download/upload, and unless you own extremely competent connection which has two lines of high bandwidth for both upload and download, it'll affect your gaming experience. Efu requires both information from you, and bandwidth to give information to you, so any traffic between the connection will cause issues. (nwn is old and is not super well optimized for streaming youtube or shit while you play)

2.) Wireless connection will always have jumps in latency and potential packet losses. It's it's nature. Sometimes it's less, sometimes more. When it's more, you see it.

3.) Our host can have connection issues. Any part of the chain between you and the server can have issues. Or the DM team can be uploading/downloading some heavy duty stuff on server side, or doing other work.

Only advice I can offer without knowing more is to make sure you're not connecting via the IP generated number but using the Direct Connect option to:
nwn.efupw.com
(or was it nwn.efupw.com:5121)? Sorry, not at my computer to check, will edit post later when I get home from work)

I know I have a weird kind of pulsing delay thing that happens if I'm not using direct connect.

I know also when I was playing last night around your time there was one instance where my game suddenly crashed also, and when I quickly checked efusl.efupw.com with my phone it went from showing 3 players online, to showing that everyone was 'offline' but server had still been running for 6 hours 27,min (going from my poor memory so I may be wrong) and 5 seconds later when I refreshed it again it was showing 3 back online again, so maybe I just crashed from corrupted packets from a temporary bad connection.. I don't know, was weird so mentioning here anyway as a footnote.

The server was lagging for everyone last night. Is your problem a one off thing, or is it a constant problem?

Bone-Deep

It's gotten better now but it was persisting after the reset fixed it for everyone else so I was going ahead and posting in case it became a persistant issue. I can play now though.
