Quote from:  The Elzkabar LudusBaruk Elzkabar appeared among the Peerage Ward seemingly overnight to no small controversy throwing about large sums of coin. A Gamesman who allegedly won his fortunes from Orzan Bravo, his first game of dice in the ward with a "paltry 400 coin buy in" was crashed by the Red Lion of Velstra and coterie who stormed the Spinning Groat in pursuit of Rat-Raft Pirates who had infiltrated the Ward to enjoy the festivities.

In the wake of the bloody conflict and violence on the main floor of the casino between Retainers and Bandits he has become a regular of the Spinning Groat: Seen in the company of the notorious Dame Catarina of Sunpurse sharing a meal before her execution, Veteran Siobhan of Orza as she sharpened her famed steel, and Ser Adrian Winespill delivering a Sixty-Bottle cask of Velstran Wine personally to his table. Even the Glitt Gazette speaking of upcoming games and a 'Winged Gladiator' taking to the Spinning Groat Arena...

Faction idea:

A PC faction focused on trying to shake things up in the Peerage, the Ludus will be serving as a one part company, one part arena, one part academy, and one part starting point for newer created PCs. On top of holding regular contests the idea is to help flesh the world out letting newer PCs get familiar with PvP, aspects of criminal activity, or just getting a footing in the server as things can be tough for a lone character.

Given the status of the Peerage Ward and the state of Code Duello the idea is to offer to bridge the gap between non-combat and combat-focused PCs. A chance for martial PCs to rise swiftly to reputation and power but also change how things work in the Peerage a bit. Not every Retainer of a House is martially inclined and rather than resorting to mercenaries like some Ticker Square guildsmaster I think it'd be fun to offer alternative.

1) Short Term members can engage in RP around the idea of improving their combat talents, sharing in the gladiatorial spirit, putting on the occasional a show, or just try to make an easier go of trying to get some supplies and equipment before seeking place among the many Houses of the Ward.

2) Longer term members can push the limits of EFU's martial capabilities partaking in things like Death Fights against other PCs but also potentially serve as a stand in champion at DM arena events in which PCs often risk their lives for fabulous equipment.

A bookish retainer of House Sunpurse need not risk his position and life in some arena when for favor or fortune traded to the local Ludus, a Gladiator can take the field in his stead.

3) Arena combat also attracts a sizable potential for shadier elements like gambling, muscle, trading of favors, and activities beyond the arena where PCs who have never done criminal aspects of EFU can get involved in high risk, high reward activities, with members working off the books for House Retainers in pursuit of personal PC goals or for the local Casino.

4) Lastly there has been an understandable lack of opportunity for non-humans in the Peerage Ward but the idea of non-humans "debasing themselves" in gladiatorial combat for the higher ups has a very austere and old world feel to it. A chance for Retainers to showcase their prowess over Dwarven Berzerkers, Elven Sharpshooters, and other traditional PC concepts for an arena character.

Furthermore though it could offer an opportunity for Non-Humans to brutalize, humiliate, or even fight humans in the pits to the death to carve their reputations like "Heels" in the wrestling world. Despised, reviled, and hated as people root for their failure yet still with opportunities to thrive in and around the Spinning Groat despite the hated/lower caste status of non-humans.
