Red Spores bug

[The Old Hack]

While travelling, all of a sudden my character triggered a trap, underwent a Red Spores attack, failed a save and died even though I was nowhere near the spores. In fact, it looked like the effect was cast on me from somewhere in the darkness.

It reminds me a bit of the old Mistlocke ruined bridge bug where you could, for example, leave the House of Trade and then fall off the bridge even though the bridge was on the other end of the town -- could this be something similar?

Likely similar. I think traps are a bit buggy in NWN. Find a DM for XP refund.

Sometimes people destroy the Red Spore object themselves, which I found back on my first PC does not disable the trap from happening.

It does if there's only one in the area. Which area did the incident take place in?

I don't actually need the XP refund, I was only level 5 when this happened. We were on our way back to Sanctuary from the back gates of Traensyr and I've only been there once or twice so I am not sure what it is called, but I think it is called 'Further Reaches.' It was the area just after the one that has the stairs that lead to the hak area. I had just zoned and walked two steps, then bam, dead.

The spores are in the Badlands. near the Orog Fortress. We had just transitioned in from the further reaches and as she was going down the ramp the clouds hit.
